Trails, huh? Interesting... was this what you were talking about in the last Otherside, walrus, or just something extra?

New trails for hyperjump? I guess it could help in pvp.

Ah, okay.

I guess this will replace /face and /follow then? SMILEY

How is this news worthy?

Weren't these ingame for a LONG time and then they were taken out? Or were those just client side before?
#36300096500 11/15/2006 17:11:57 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006
I hope those are not like the ones in beta, those were horrible.

If they are...what is the point of even testing the game?  It has been completely revamped anyway...

lame eh u take away /face and give us some animation ?

we will still have /salute and other ways to find then it just means that if we lose the target well be able to find them more easier
#36300096504 11/15/2006 17:16:04 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006

meh. its a compromise for /face's removal...but a poor one tbh lol.

Oh well. if it looks good then /cheer

Hardly worthy of an image retrival. But then with the OSotLG hyping /AFK (which is probably being removed from the patch again as it doesn't work; hence no patch this week!) what do we expect? Is there really *nothing* decent left to hype up? Have things really gotten that bad now? *sigh*

There will be alot more to the patch than an /afk command...if there will even be a command.

Relax.

That's not the point. The point is, why even waste space in the article talking about it, when far more interesting things could have been discussed? With so little new information these days, what little we get shouldn't be wasted on silly little fluff filler.

Why did we opt for adding a trail to Hyperjump rather than getting rid of the Mario jump?

Eh... I've always hated the little trails we've had already.... Can we get some way to turn these off completely? I've never liked air trails in video games; they always kills the realism.

"We" did not opt for this. This was a dev/community summit decision. There were several good ideas in the development roundtable thread that for one reason or another will never see the light of day. I will point out the most obvious solutions that could have worked:
1. Remove ctrl-space hyperjump
2. Add a tracking ability

Remove /face and add contrails! Brilliant.... err, I'm sure that's what someone thought. I sure am glad we have players on the qa server testing this stuff.... oh wait, nvm.
This has nothing to do with "community summit." I've never posted there.

CTRL-Space hyperjump is never going to go away, because Walrus and I like it.

Tracking abilities are something we're currently planning.

The takeoff contrails were a minor visual addition that I think people will find useful, particularly those who complained that when someone hyperjumped, all they could see was that that person had vanished from view. I seem to recall some of your factionmates saying that, although of course I could be mistaken there. If it turns out that everyone hates them, we can take them out.

So any plans to remove the glitch where you can hyperjump in reverse?

I don't think we know about that one. I remember a certain rodent saying something about being able to jump, then jump back to where you started just before landing, and I mentioned that to NoRepro, but he said he couldn't...repro it. But I don't know if he's ever had definite steps to follow for it.
#36300096575 11/15/2006 18:48:22 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006

Tell Repro this one.

ctrl+space, wait till halfway through hyperjump, let go, hit ctrl+space again.

Tada...or something to that effect.

#36300096601 11/15/2006 19:17:08 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006

... they do look nice enough, I suppose, but I also hope there's a way to turn them off.  I'd also like to reiterate the general desire to be able to turn off all of the large, annoying, wacky, out of place visual effects that are related to hacking and status effects.

While I can see the point of adding these "jump trails" in regards to tracking and PVP, it goes against the community's general agreement that we want less flashy noticeable effects and not more of them.

#36300096615 11/15/2006 19:38:39 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006

I'm in entire agreement with Shinryu's statement.

So if the person jumps far enough away to disappear into the ball of light, does their contrails disappear as well? Or will they stay on the four second timer no matter how far away?

Wow.... I've been lowered down to the rank of a rodent.  Well, anyways I sent a /ccr in as a bug on that ctrl+space hyperjump exploit.  I'll send another in again or if NoRepro wants a detailed description you can just send him my way.  I'll be in the small hole in the wall next to the Oracle's apartment.

They disappear right away if the person leaves the visible set (the "ball of light" effect plays when that happens), or if the person lands.

Nah, I don't get /ccr reports. It was a vague remark someone else made on the forums a little while back.

#36300096692 11/16/2006 00:14:09 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006
Rarebit,

Easy repro of the hyperjump that they're talking about.

Remap hyperjump to an easier button to push (I have it with "R"SMILEY.
Hold down "R" to begin hyperjumping. About half way through release and you are able to stop in midair and fall staight down.
You can also return to the point that you origionally jumped from by tapping the "R" button fast. Each time you press the button after you first released it, you will move backwards. Press it enough and you are back from where you first jumped from.
The whole time, you're 5 sec or so trails will correctly show the direction but if they do what I said above they can trick enemies even more now.

I imagine that is something that is not supposed to happen and has more than likely been /bug'd many times.

Meh, i think they look ok. I definately understand the justification. But from player response it seems this is a very sensitive and widely used area with a lot of close discussion needed.

Just a temporary solution until data mining tracking abilities i hope.
#36300096707 11/16/2006 01:26:46 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006

Well Ive been tracking without face just like I used to from before for a while now, but this is something, however quick thing, and please say yes. IF I have "effects = None" selected, it wont show the trails right? otherwise you just messed up screenshots and video editing for a lot of ppl.

#36300096727 11/16/2006 01:52:06 Re:Image Retrieval - November 15, 2006
For those that want to remove the "Mario Jump", as you like to call it, there are many folks in this game that do not like to PvP, and do not PvP.  This "Mario Jump" is a HUGE time saver for running missions, and is essential in getting around the city fast.

Perhaps because:
a) People clamoured for "Mario Jump" in beta when it didn't exist
b) It's actually useful for moving around the city doing missions, hardline tagging, node tagging, and tonnes of other stuff

I mean, those are just things off the top of my head ...

Looks a little like.....superwoman on the pictureSMILEY. Actually, i think it's cool when they do change some of the graphics in the game so they are updated to the ongoing story. But i guess it also depends on how you play the game, like Fen said.

Next is lazer eyes!!!
