#36300093258 11/10/2006 17:22:48 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

No idea what this could be.

First thing that i thought was the /afk command because it was said to be added...twice and never did.  But this was in live hummm

Anyone else know?

Walrus, Why don't you just use those ads as the texture on the billboard instead of the "Ad space for rent"

It's fairly simple really...  Isn't that what you used to do?

#36300093263 11/10/2006 17:25:26 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

Walrus you big tease...tell me more...lol

Why do you taunt us so lol

#36300093264 11/10/2006 17:25:53 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Hmm, very interesting.

#36300093271 11/10/2006 17:40:41 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Is it something other than luggables?  I mean we knew about those so if it's luggables wouldn't you just say it was? *head explodes*
#36300093273 11/10/2006 17:44:03 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
I can't think of what it could be other than maybe...:O Hovercraft Bonuses?!  If it's a feature, I doubt it's just a couple new slash commands.

Who has old beta notes???

EDIT:  I don't know if it was ever in the patch notes, but Team Duels, anyone? SMILEY
#36300093293 11/10/2006 18:47:10 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
What, /afk finally works?
#36300093294 11/10/2006 18:50:09 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
No ads for me? SMILEY

Oh well... New exciting thingy I want to know about! :O
#36300093296 11/10/2006 18:53:07 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
If all this build up is for /afk then I'm going to be bloody dissapointed...
#36300093299 11/10/2006 18:59:01 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
I believe its going to luggables, it is a feature that never got put in that was planned during beta, right?

So a /gankmeplz flag is finally going into the game? That doesn't really excite me at all. And for those who don't think it's the /afk command here's a pointer in true Walrus fashion: "I'm just going to step away from the keyboard and see you on the other side next week."

As for the ads. I think it best I don't bother saying a thing, been there. Still doing it /yawn.

#36300093318 11/10/2006 19:54:16 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

From what Walrus said it will be /afk!

Thta's so awsome... we get new crits ne cinematic /setdetaisl command and /afk and maybe some more... awsome Walrus!

#36300093320 11/10/2006 20:05:16 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Its /afk?

Wow.....what a worthwhile addition, I sure am glad I waited 6 weeks to see this invaluable feature implemented.....
#36300093322 11/10/2006 20:09:43 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
im pretty sure it is /afk cause he said it is something that was in the notes twice, AFK was, and we said i am stepping away from the keyboard. There have been other things i know that have been in update notes that were really never added sometimes not until many patches after or never, but i dont recall anything else ATM.
#36300093323 11/10/2006 20:10:07 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Seems to be /afk.

What I know of the patch sounds cool, but eh...idk.

That's a good point, but I don't remember the /afk command being in the patch notes until after live.
#36300093337 11/10/2006 21:45:13 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
It's far from a perfect solution, but couldn't the "ad space for rent" sign that currently appears where a sign can't be loaded just be replaced with something more interesting?  *shrug*
#36300093338 11/10/2006 21:57:30 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
man 2 big teases in one week The Neo RSI image Retival and The "beta Feature " this isnt nice  walrus SMILEY j/k cant wait till thursday though
#36300093369 11/11/2006 01:16:30 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

Sounds good i guess...

will /afk really be what they are talking about? i mean...why build up such a small command with such secrecy..surely there more to the plot.

#36300093370 11/11/2006 01:22:12 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

I really wish there is something we can do on the billboards, but oh well.

Special feature, I hope its something good!

*Team Duels would make sense if that was indeed added since people cant drop orgs to fight each other in a pvp scenario now, not that im complaning I love the fact people cant just switch orgs now.

#36300093372 11/11/2006 01:27:00 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Well going by recent responses from Rarebit and NoRepro (as if Walrus' oh so not subtle hint wasn't a big give away), team duels are not going to be on the menu.
#36300093380 11/11/2006 01:48:49 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

Tis /afk i bets ya. Nice subtlety walrus SMILEY

Unless its all one big ploy!

Team duels would be sweeeeeeet but i aint getting me hopes up.

And as for afk being a gank flag, remember it should be completely optional. Thus you dont have to use it.

Oh and a 'build up' to afk? Let us not forget the other coolio stuff in el update, continuing (and ever improving) story missions, editable descriptions, /frags etc etc. SMILEY

Edit: And aye to Aqua, can the billboards not simply use replacement textures like teh olden days?

#36300093381 11/11/2006 01:54:57 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Edit: And aye to Aqua, can the billboards not simply use replacement textures like teh olden days?

Again, according to several Rarebit responses, that's a no. Simply beacause the system used to deliver the ads apparently needs a "bright" background for them to work or some such nonsense. They should just feed false imaginary proxy type IP address to the ad system so it thinks we're all in the US (as that obviously is the centre of the universe these days).

Oh and just to point it out. If you catch the billboards correctly, you'll see that the "replacement textures of teh olden days" is already there. The ugly bright spot of doom (pronounce that: Ad space for rent) is placed over the top. So those billboards are actually using three layers: (1) The old fake dev made placement holder ads with (2) the white space of doom  placed on top with (3) the actually ads served only to a very limited number of players in a very limited number of ad spots.

Honestly, there are just too many unused billboards in the game. Just remove them all and leave the ones at Mara C, Tabor West. Those are most likely the only two places that actually prove worthwhile in reaching a larger player count than 1 per day.

There hasn't been a build up as such, but in the looking glass he's left us on a cliffhanger so we'll be guessing until thursday...but really, if its just for a simple /afk command theres no need for a cliffhanger is there? what sort of purpose would it have which would be of REAL use, unless it was like an auto response to tells etc.

Im just saying IF it is to be afk, thats cool..but the cliffhanger would make you think its something else, something more.

#36300093401 11/11/2006 02:59:20 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

Nooby Question:

If it is indeed the /afk command, what will that do other than showing that you're 'away from keyboard'?

#36300093407 11/11/2006 03:32:31 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
The update sounds great, I'm looking forward to the description command , and hoping that the Simulacra change that Rarebit looked into was finished and put in - instead of just Aikido sims, you'd randomly get Aikido, Karate, Kung Fu, Gunman, Rifleman or SMG Specialist sims.

Not a whole lot else.

Did anyone else see the image retreival for PvP safe zones? I'm pretty sure that was something they were working on in beta. Or did I imagine that?
#36300093411 11/11/2006 03:34:57 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

I would hope that if they do get the /afk command to work, it might not be that hard to create a /rp flag.  I would love an RP flag.

Well it's most likely that your ISP has some US based IP addresses reserved and you've randomly wound up with one of those. For example people with AOL (regardless of their country) could wind up with a US based IP address being asigned to them....

yeah i'd be all up for that command, it'd definately solve any sort of problems on vector, where if you insult someone in RP, they'll probably take it personally due to the nature of the server heh.

The portable "Pacification Zone" is entirely new. It's possible back in the olden days you heard or saw something to do with PVP or non-PVP areas covering specific parts of a city, generally on a neighborhood basis. I don't remember much about their distribution (and I don't remember if this was only pre-beta or not), but I remember for instance that at one point in the misty deeps of time, Uriah was a hostile neighborhood. We had one artist who got the hang of it on our internal server before most other people on the team, and he spent several play sessions gleefully luring his co-workers across the street from Mara C into Uriah under various pretexts, ganking them, and then laughing about it in the office for days.

That sucks for the people outside of NA.

But yay for the /afk command!  Hopefully there will be some more nice surprises as well!

#36300093531 11/11/2006 09:57:30 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006

Sorry for being blunt but its true, that "other side of the looking glass" sucks.

A summary form is like saying, HAHA UK players dont get live events and now no ads.

But to make up for it we got a /afk command which saves you the trouble to tell ppl youre afk and indicates to enemies that youre afk.

#36300093547 11/11/2006 10:13:55 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
Hey, for all you know, the new feature will be Faction Wars. Don't get all worked up just yet.

Friggin' marvellous.

See you next week.
#36300093565 11/11/2006 10:54:03 Re:The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Friday, November 10, 2006
I don't see a big "build up" to /afk.  I think this is just one Walrus' pet peeves.  He got embarrassed not once, but twice, by putting it in the patch notes, only to find it wasn't in the game.  It looks like both times were after beta, unless there was an earlier mention.  In any case, it'll be nice to finally have it in game.
