Assuming the Matrix Cycle went on for 600 years that leave the Machines with a lot of free time, and everyone knows that society can multitask, so I wonder, what have the Machines been doing for the last 600 years? Have they begun to explore the Galaxy? Worked things like time travel and wormholes? Maybe they found out exactly how the human brain works.

What do you guys think?

Well, there is some machine knowledge of time travel SMILEY

They invented television shows like Barney and Teletubbies.

Why? Cause the machines are teh suck. SMILEY

The ebil plan has been discovered... The machine plot to go back in time to create PBS has been exposed...decades of mathematics on time travel wasted ... mgah SMILEY

Unlike humans, machines don't really need to..fulfill their lives or have goals other than to reproduce and keep living, therefore Im not sure they share the same restless nature humans do.  They seem content with being efficient enough already...

But that's all speculation =D

...but its related Ham, not pure spam lol
But what can you say? It is one of those things were I just wish there was more media to back up what the machine city activities are...
We can make up stuff and make our own stories in the game etc.
For example, the story of the Likwid Hyuzu faction is that the "judgement day"  is a seperate reality and that the machine city received a "Contact" like encoded message. The machines agree to an information sharing agreement in terms. So to make a long story short, in that story, the Machines in the matrix have already learned that there are too many potential negative consequences in time travel, but that it could be manipulated.

No problem man... so I guess the idea is that the non-matrix reality is really screwed up because of all the time travel, but that the evoultion of machine intellegence is inevitable. The Skynet program had turned on humanity because it was initially a military program. Humans were just targets, but again because of all the time travel, there is no concrete "original" story, it has been wiped out several times over and they are stuck in a loop of the war, and until they contacted the information held within the Matrix, had little desire to end it. This is what I had meant by the negative results being too much to risk and so the Matrix would not want to go down that road. It is an example of the information sharing also, they just want to learn from each others machine intellegence from a generally scientific perspective. Sharing combat schematics, research findings etc...  And so each member within the faction then represents a different purpose or experiment for Skynet reporting. Monitor this truce in order to make the proper steps towards their own.

Why did the machines honor the agreement with Neo, why when victory was pretty much assured didnt they finish Zion. I suspect the machines aspirations are a lot simpler and more fundamental than our own, preserving their race and matiaining the equilibrium of the perfect equation could mean that the Matrix is their sole concern. Human style deviances of greed and ambition tend to fall into the realm of the Exiles, is that an aberation or is it the natural evolution of machines ie does evolution require a race to be ambitious to ensure its ongoing survival? Is human ambition or greed the taint that all but caused their extinction and is that a feature humans need to eliminate to survive?

Err... time travel was just an example...

hmmm... "what do you think" leaves it pretty open ended. Have you read the Matrix comic Goliath ? They make mention to some outerspace activity there ...

Human style deviance was the fuel behind its near extinction... it started with greed and ended with racism.
