Rather an interesting one I haven't seen before.
Where abouts do you get this error message?
Can you post the results of the network information in the thread at the top of the forum called "Please Read before Posting".

try doing a full launcher check.
if that fails check the game folder for a custom script pointing to the test server as some people accidentaly added it to their normal game folder so the launcher is now looking at a disconnected server to play on.
hope that helps
i think the filename is client.cfg not 100% sure

Looks like a firewall problem.
Something is blocking port 53 for Launcher.exe or matrix.exe (DNS works on port 53)
The error means that launcher.exe can't turn something like authserv.thematrixonline.com into and IP address like 123.45.67.89
however given that you can use your web browser the port is not blocked completely.

No, it's definitely their DNS server.
I just checked it on 2 or 3 different networks.
If anyone knows these hostnames and ips off the top of their heads, I'll just add them to my hosts file

I've tried all of your ideas and none of them work. T don't know if it's because I just reactivated my account that causes that problem.

Well, there are no timeouts, but your trace times are running awfully high. What kind of Internet connection do you have?
*sighs* Dial up.
Who is your provider? Do they block any ports?
I don't know what you mean by provider but I'm positive the right ports are open because I was able to log on the Matrix online fine before.
I don't know why it can't connect to the pacth download server but i'm starting to get anoyed.
By Provider, I mean the company that provides your Internet access. Make sure they allow access to all the following ports.
TCP range: 10000 to 11000 (incoming & outgoing traffic)
UDP range: 10000 to 11000 (incoming & outgoing traffic)
TCP port: 7030 (outgoing traffic)
UDP port: 9700 (outgoing traffic)
TCP range: 10000 to 11000 (incoming & outgoing traffic)
UDP range: 10000 to 11000 (incoming & outgoing traffic)
TCP port: 7030 (outgoing traffic)
UDP port: 9700 (outgoing traffic)
Yeah, they allow access to those ports.
Do you know if your IP is static? I receive some weird results when I tracing to the one in the IP address you provided earlier. Could you try going to myip.station.sony.com and giving the IP address it gives you?
Of course:
You are coming in from IP Address 216.18.116.92, port 1553
Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7

Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7
And is that the same IP that it is currently giving you if you type ipconfig from your command prompt?
Yes.
Who is your provider, by the way? Securenet?
Thats correct.
I appear to be timing out after hitting some securenet servers when I try to trace to you. You may want to try contacting them and seeing if they can trace the cause of this timeout. I have included my trace results below.

Still waiting for a reply from them and there starting to really anoy me. None of my programs that need the internet can't see that i'm connected. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Ok, they replyed saying this:
Your trace is complete to your Firewall, which will not allow a trace to
complete. The next hop where you see the Timeout's is you or your machine.
The fact that you are able to send and receive e-mail attests
that there are packets going in and out. If you have something like
Norton Security or Black Ice or Zone alarm check the settings or for
a few minutes turn it off. See if then the Internet works ok. If so
reset the firewall to factory defaults. You or someone using your
machine may have locked sown the rules a little too tight.
I've tried what they said and it didn't work so I sent them another email and i'm awaiting a reply.

Alright, glad they clarified that. What kind of firewall do you have running, by the way?
I'm using the windows xp firewall.
And you have tried disabling it? You are not running any other firewalls? Could you provide your MSINFO information?
To create your MSINFO information:
1) Click on the START menu, select RUN and type MSINFO32 and select OK.
2) When the Microsoft System Information program opens, select FILE and select EXPORT.
3) Save the information as MSINFO.txt to your desktop or other easily found location.
4) This is a large file so let’s copy only important parts.
1. Copy and paste from [System Information] to [DMA].
2. Copy and paste from [IRQs] to [Memory].
3. Copy and paste from [Running Tasks] to [System Hooks].

I'm not sure if I put too much or too little.
If you could also include the [Startup] section, it could be helpful. I would like to see if you have anything problematic running in the background. Have you alerted your ISP's support line that you do not have any firewalls running?

And I have, like I said, the default windows firewall running.
Nothing looks too bad in there. Have you tried running under a clean boot?
Yes, and it didn't work (,figures).
The odd thing about your ISP blaming a software firewall is that a firewall does not generally cause a timeout on a trace as they only block access to specific programs. This sounds network related and not something on your computer. Let us know when they get back to you.
Sure thing, if they ever do...
What is the make and model of your modem (cable router/adsl router/dialup modem/etc...)?
More commonly cable and adsl modems have firewalls built into them.

He is on dial-up phi. I have never heard of a dial up modem with built in firewalls, but I guess there is a first for anything. Are you on an external dial up modem provided by your ISP, or is it an internal model.
It's a internal model.
Yeah, I really doubt that is the cause. You may want to verify that the modem does not have any built in firewall, but I have certainly never heard of an internal 56k modem with one.
It doesn't have a built in firewall.
Alright, in that case, I would recommend going back to the PC. There is no reason it should be timing out on your PC based on a software firewall, unless you are running a software firewall with port blocking, which the Windows firewall does not have.
They still havn't replyed yet. I'm not sure if my emails are being sent to them because i've sent them like 15 emails.
Don't know what to tell you there. Hope they get back to you soon.
ok this may be a long shot but go to controll panel> security center > windows firwall >then to the exceptions tab.
then click add port and add
tcp port 10000-11000
udp port 10000-11000
tcp port 7030
udp port 9700
i had a really bad experience with another game and windows firewall, wher the firwall was acctually blocking the main menu of the game from launching or minimizion which means i had to do a hard reset, a simple firewall tweak here and ther with exceptions and ports fixd that up.
hope this helps

Ok they replyed telling me to either reinstall the matrix online or buy a securer firewall. I've tried both and none of them work.
Did they explain why I am timing out on what is supposedly your computer when there is no firewall running? I do not see how a more secure firewall is going to allow you more access.
