Some 9600's are shipped fanless. have you verified that you have a fan on your graphics card, and that it is working properly? This can reduce overheating, and may cure it altogether if there is adequate airflow in the case and over the graphics card.
have you tried removing the side of your case, and pointing a standing fan inside the case?
