When will this game become remotely like the films?
The Combat is nothing like the films and it seems its more based of a horror film the Matrix with all the Zombies, Vampires etc, that was only hinted at in the film, not a dominant part of it.
er the zombies was a special thing they put in for halloween... there gone now.. its nice to have a change for halloween... Christmas last year they added snow and snowmen around the mega city which i tought was cool.. whatst hepoint of staring at the cold rain in a festive season
#3630009306511/10/2006 10:48:53Re:Ask the devs an MXO question v.2
Well, the horror is one of the genres the Matrix likes to be inspired by. The Twins with their transparent skeleton spirits and grim mugs are an example in the movies.
However, Monty's right in some way. The Oracle's remark is really just a hint. The vampire movie / silver bullet kill in "Reloaded" isn't that obvious, aswell. However, more obvious are the dobermen/vamps in the Chateau in "Enter the Matrix", which you can count as fully valid canon.
But the main thing, these appearences were really supposed to be foreign to the Matrix and hidden. In MxO, vampires go about in the streets and Lupines basically fight you in every mission. I guess that was the direction the Wachowskis wanted to go with this game (aswell as introducing hacker combat etc.) - but fact is, it does drift from the movies. Some don't like it.

Ever thought of adding a "Live Event Discussion Thread" where people could discuss what they liked or didn't like about certain events and a place where you could post about your experiences and other players interactions during the events. That "Can you say overkill" thread was a good example of discussions that could go on in the thread.

What do you think of this, is something like this feasible any time soon?:

You think the threads at the Live Event forum don't qualify? People post there IC aswell as discuss the events OOC. The overkill thread was just a precocious one to the following thread in the LE forum.

Rarebit, i know this may have been brought up before. I wanted you to check this post out and see if these changes to the Faction window could be implimented without totally making it a big change for you to work on.
Also with the email, would an address book ever be implimented so we can make group emails a lil bit easier?

Rarebit,
Can SOE setup a system to PAY REAL CASH for a character transfer? If blizzard can do it why can't SOE?
#3630009394711/12/2006 03:41:45Re:Ask the devs an MXO question v.2
probably because they would have to set up a new department or at least hire a few guys to handle all the transfers not to mention the ammount of database work involved, which i think is still a no no.
would be nice to see but id say transfers would be more of a long term project.
#3630009398311/12/2006 06:06:05Re:Ask the devs an MXO question v.2
Honestly with only three servers and one of those with a one-way transfer only policy, I don't think SOE are bothered in the slightest about even considering such a service. For them, it would be a waste of time and money. If we still had nine servers... well, who knows?
#3630009415811/12/2006 12:11:15Re:Ask the devs an MXO question v.2
Will we ever have another live event (ala Assassin/Red Eyed Agent caliber), where the actual bad guy is out and we'll all out to kill him and his henchmen to save the Matrix one again?

Somthing to do with, if they remove a toon from a server they have to edit the data base and if they do it will splode !!! :O.. On a serious note i would love thos but people would level on syntax and recursion and then transfer to vector... and thus ending the fun u get wen u kill a level 16 sitting in mara with no evade for 10K damge :O

Last time they did that everybody complained. They're still complaining. Anome.

Wrong. Players are not allowed to transfer to Vector, only from Vector. The last time transfers were offered the rules were as follows (paraphrased):
Players could transfer from any non-hostile server to any other non-hostile server. Players could only transfer from a hostile server to a non-hostile server. Players could not transfer from a non-hostile server to a hostile server. Players could only transfer one character at a time. Character transfers took 24 hours to complete.
So *if* transfers were offered now it would be:
Players can transfer from any non-hostile server to any other non-hostile server (ie, from Recursion to Syntax) Players can transfer from Vector to any non-hostile server (ie, from Vector to Recursion) Players cannot transfer to Vector (ie, from Syntax to Vector is *not* possible)
With that in mind, and taking into account players now have three character slots per server, transfers are not really necessary.
They were originally offered only due to the timings of the old 'Lith events - ie so European players could move to a server with European friendly event times. That reason is also no longer valid.

Aye, the reason they first offered it was to do with the introduction of Input and Output - they were introduced after the American release, and since many seeked to play as soon as it began, as opposed to the 2-week-delayed European release, many joined the American servers (Proxy for the win! )
Personally I preferred the American servers. I never liked the idea of events at 6pm. And getting the early slots for the other 7 was just fair play.
But several other posters are right - there is no need for them anymore.

Plus getting the event the day after so you knew most of what was going to happen wasn't brilliant either.

If Rarebit ever returneth to this thread, I have a question I'd like to ask him:
How much could you alter the City's looks without making some big mumbo jumbo codey thing that requires huge patches? Does so much as moving a bench an inch to the right fubarr everything, or can you do something like tweak textures?

disconect all characters from their server ties, let us choose who we want to play as and which server we want to play on.... time to forge a new and progressive approach to mmo's not just copy what others are doing!

I'd much rather see everyone unified under one server which would equal one Mega City and events for everyone under the server.

Has Rarebit ever mentioned impossible technicalities that would prevent them from merging them, or it can be done but cause too many headaches to make it worthwhile?
#3630009549111/14/2006 12:20:59Re:Ask the devs an MXO question v.2
If it won't affect the performance (well, at least imaginable during "low" load), I'm with it. Wait, there's the PvP issue aswell... maybe release a one-time decision for each character between permanent and optional PvP?
Being the absolute MMO noob when I joined this game, I actually did not like the idea of multiple worlds. Now, at least it could increase the consistency...

I wouldn't trust descriptions in the mxo launcher, since it is still saying this about server names:

Umm... I guess the zombies breaking Evade shields instantly wasn't quite something I wanted, and they probably bit a *little* more frequently than I would have liked.
Looks like threads get pretty laggy on this forum around 200 pages or so. I guess I'd better start a new one.
