What is the situation with the forums at the moment? For some reason I'm a "New Recruit".

Yea Im a *makes a dumb noise* redpill. I used to be a controller and I was on my way down the reader tree. O well.
Apparently user ranks are tied to forum groups or something. Once you qualify for one group, the system isn't continuing to check other groups you may qualify for. So you are stuck in the lowest qualifying group. Not sure what the groups are for, but it's probably something they tried to set up to deal with forum access rights/privelidge rights. I suppose I could find out if I bothered to download the JForum source code, but I don't much like Java.
So yeah, until they fix checking routine, we're stuck it seems. Boy am I glad I set up my avatar before losing that control panel again =S

Somehow I got stuck as Technical Support. I was hoping for 'Fearsome Pirate with a LASER', but I couldn't get it approved.
I believe there are a few more planned maintenance cycles to sort out the most pressing forum bugs, with tweaks throught the next few weeks to really get things going. Don't forget that the team is also working on converting the EQ, EQ2, and SWG boards as well.

Another thing to get them to check: User log in information is dissappearing. I think it may due to another database error, but not too sure. Basic result: couldn't log in for several hours as apparently my correct username and password were incorrect/not on file/timing out the process or a mixture of all three. =/
yeh, I also see that the DJ stuff is gone aswell, ahh well at least I ain't stuck at redpill *thanks god*

No you can't change your forum name beyond it's initial setting.
I just found it ironic that as one of the longest members of these boards I scored "new recruit" as my rank 
Anyone who knows whats going on with these forums want to let us know... well, what is going on with the forums? Been almost a month since the transition, things are terrible. The community is apparently hurting from this transition... what's being worked on? what HAS been worked on? I'm still getting that Status 500 error a lot. That's not the only issue though... SO, what gives?
These boards are a complete mystery to me.,..I've been a member for 3 years, yet according to my profile have only posted 8 times and am a new recruit!

I had this yesterday, I logged in and was a total newbie. I dunno what's happening but I have it back, and if it makes you feel any better all you guys who are saying you are low ranks (apart from Khemikal) are registering as high ranks for me.
As to you Khemikal, if you have been registered for ages but only made 9 posts you get a low rank because the ranks are based off time registered coupled with posts, for example the highest rank Mainframe Invader requires 1 (maybe 2) years registered + 300 posts.
