At the moment I am on the Recurson server.  I think the game is great.  I have a few questions about the vector hostile server.  How hostile is it?  Are you always flagged red or can you choose when not to be?  Also are there many factions (players) participating in the role playing aspects of the game?
Basically a brief overview or player point of view from vets and newbies alike would be great.

vectors is mainly PvP u hardly get much RP in it altho i do kno som factions RP altho i havent seen much of it. as for flaging u become perma flaged at lvl 16 and there is no way to unflag. vector is prety cool if u into the pvp aspect of tha game more than anything else ,,,,, things like partys or events (except those hosted by DEVs or hav CSRs involved) get crashed unless u keep it on the low .. this is y mst vector partys only hav leik 15 - 20 people there ....
#35500000323 03/27/2006 17:08:42 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)
yeh, after level 16 you are permanently flagged, meaning you can and probably will be shot at anytime
#35500000324 03/27/2006 20:44:57 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)

but the megacity is a very large place.  to level even in the old days when people would camp mission buildings was not that big of a deal.  MOST players do not take the killing of super lowbies as something honorable.

vector is a unique experience, and frankly i don't see how anyone plays on another server.  always exciting and full of some crazy individuals.  i have a blast

#35500000325 03/27/2006 21:43:54 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)

I spent 5 days on Vector and stopped calling Zionists "Cave Monkies"...

This title is now reserved for most of the population on Vector.

Hostile is a nice way to put it. There I am, contemplating what tree I want when some poor person who just got to the level you're perma-flagged at lands at the hardline and is gunned down in a matter of seconds. Might as well skip trying to code things - unless you're a level 50 they're going to blow you out of the sky for fun, causing you to lose all your frags in the process. "Honor" is something I did not see no matter where I went; just people ganging up in groups hunting other people down for fun and bad mouthing each other.

If you like to go Solo, you will be shot... A lot, by everyone.

If you join a group you can look forward to the shouting that even spills onto the message boards. Insult after insult in flung every which way... Sorry kids, but I don't think the Matrix was meant for getting gunned down by your fellow Redpills every 5 seconds.

However, if you enjoy constant bickering, bad grammar and a high population of people who shouldn't be allowed to breed, Vector is the place for you.

Alice has been corrupted by the evil Recursionite ways.

But in reality, Vector isn't really that bad. HL's are your friend, and your enemy. As a merovingian, Mara C is a no-no, unless I want to 'shoot fish in a barrel.' If you're farming frags, HL them frequently. A lot of times ive noticed that I use the subways more than the HLs. Not only is it safer travel, but strategically it is better. Nobody ever suspects the HLs!

::ahem:: Anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah. Go Vector if you really want a true Matrix experience. Seriously, especially now in the story, since when do members of warring organizations dance together at Mara C?

And if u wanna whine and complain and cant handle pvp or are too lazy to find an empty hardline or area to level in, go join this guy on an RP server!

#35500000329 03/28/2006 04:02:43 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)
Truth is that as with most things you get out of it what you put in. Yes there are places you will go and be relentlessly ganked, but there are lots that hardly see another player. Vector requires you to be more alert, more adaptable and more involved in the reality of the situation, choose your coding area's carfully and keep a eye over your shoulder, want to talk with another player invite then to a secure location away from the masses. You live in a dangerous city on Vector it can't be turned off, avioded in the same manner as other servers, some players are mean, some stupid, some childish, some devious, some dedidcated and some truely benevolent any rp needs to reflect this - its actually a marvelous thing when you but realise it - ever thought how totally meaningless death is in MxO, see the reaction of some of the fallen of Vector and perhaps get an idea how very seriously it may be taken.
If you want structure, carefully designed events, security and control Vector is not for you, if however you want to live in Megacity and have the full immersive experience, filled with tension, danger, death, freedom and as much variety as the game engine allows Vector is the only place to be.....ya pays ya money and ya takes your choice!
#35500000331 03/28/2006 05:58:55 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)
Well tell ya the truth I do like playing on vector at times. I have a lvl 31 there. And to tell ya the truth use sneak as much as you can on vector. I have only been ganked at a hl a few times while others are being destroyed over and over, I sit in the shadows laughing at them... lol Also International is by far the best place on vector to mission solo in. The gangs aren't crazy high and the pvp is low at times. Vector isn't all that bad although there are alot of noobs on there. Reason: Well I'm lvl 31 and assassin and kungfu master. And I have in pvp hit many many times lvl 50s with my moves.. On recursion no lvl 31 can outroll me with an assassin move. EVER! lol but anyways I agree if you like being in a constant state of paranoia and fear for your life *giggles* then go to vector. lol It really perpaires you for pvp on the non hostile servers. But I have tryed this too, not many on vector rp they just kill eachother and laugh at eachother and trash talk which is what I do to... lol FOR TEH SKITTLES!!!!

This is well kind of something that i laughted at for ages so i might express my view no matter how late in the thread i am... " just people ganging up in groups hunting other people down for fun" are you really trying to suggest that doing that isnt fun LOL i mean **bleep** u have to have balls to be on vector, if you moan that u got killed and lost abiltys and bits... lye on ur back and cry... not even the nicest people will pity u because it happens... the people of vector arnt noobs we're where the real pvp is at and the ones who "fight to suvive" no matter the cost. and even if ur level 50 coding... u'll still get pwned anyways lol call us gankers call is the same word with a W there instead of the G cause when was there ever "Honor" in a hostile place anyway SMILEY thank you for reading SMILEY

^ dunno what the heck any of that said lmao!

anywho... vector is an aquired taste.  as taty said above, it is the RUSH of being chased and battling that will bring you back.  we also throw kick *CENSORED* parties where most of us can get along and just hang out once in a while!  so don't think it's all pvp... well ok it is all pvp lol, but we have FUN. mxo is not a chatroom.

but, do what you want.  i do recommend you do check it out tho for at least 20 lvls.  you'll figure out who the smacktards are and learn to ignore/avoid them.  (pst, I'm one of em!! lol)  there is a ton of trash talking, but hardly anyone takes it personally and if someone is giving you a super hard time just ask em if they wanna cyber which will inevitably make you both laugh.

#35500000337 03/28/2006 16:44:41 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)
Anyone ever ask someone from vector about vector?
I've actually tried playing a non hostile server, and yes it is good knowing that someone else can't touch you till you volunteer to be hit.  But it isn't fun.  On a non hostile server, you can play your way to 50 without ever comunicationing to another human being.  The sole reason why Vector is fun is if you don't comunicate with other people, you will get your butt kicked, over, and over and over again.  Vector has the kind of unity that you can't find in RP.  I have unwilling had to look my enemy in the as they land the final blow and think, that was awesome how he/she kicked my butt.  or Well executed combo.  And you know what, I have learned so much about combat in MXO from getting my butt kicked.  And I take that knowledge with me to continually refine my combat techniques so that I may teach someone else a leason in butt wooping.

Honestly, Vector is a lot of fun.  But if you do decide to join the 24-7 war, make sure you take care of a few things.

1) Write your will.  Just kidding... but be sure to watch your back and surroundings.  Level 50 stealthers will pwnzor your candy level 16 butt.

2) When coding, choose an empty area close to a hardline... but don't park yourself next to it.  You're just asking for a butt-kicking then.  Believe me, experience speaks volumes for this.:smileywink:

3) Upload frequently and often.  See #2 for the reasons why.

4) AFK is for lowbies.  Go to the loading area if you need a break... or clean out a small/easy mission area.

5) Get a good faction that will back you up.  Just ask around for the best factions; everyone has their own opinion, but there a few that always stand out.

6) Stay away from Mara.  Period.  Trust me.

7) If you ain't interested in fighting, try a /wave emote.  Usually that will do the trick.  But don't be surprised if it gets ignored; there are a few of us who don't subscribe to that convention.

SMILEY Parties get crashed on Vector.  Just make sure you've got max viral resists (or w/eTF they are called these days) and you should be fine.  A good doctor loadout in the room doesn't hurt either.

9) Agents are still not your friends.

10) Remember, it's just a game.  The Machinist who kills you today isn't out to **bleep** you off; he's in the mood to have fun, just like you, and his idea of fun involves stealth and a well-timed Bulldog.  *shrug*

EDIT: Yay!  I made Controller!  *happy dance*

lol drsmith SMILEY

zip makes some great pts above here too.  number 7 is very true.  i've often made the error of popping out into a red controlled hL.  (now mara c doesn't apply here, if mara c is mach/mero controlled and you pop out, you will die)  a quick hi or a wave goes a long way.

also, you make your own destiny.  if you are known as a pvp now ask questions later person, you will be a target wherever you go... if you are able to get along at multi org parties without causing a lot of trouble, people will cut you some slack too!

#35500000345 03/29/2006 11:45:04 Re: Vector Hostile (for Newbies)

Ok, let me throw my 2 cents in...

Vector is fun.  It's much more fun to level there than the other 2 servers.

Why?  Mostly because its hostile at level 16.  You're perma-flagged so you tend to act differently there.  But don't believe all of the myths!

- Vector is not filled with SUPER L33T PvPers waiting to pwn you the second you jack in.
- Hardlines aren't all deathtraps.  Only a few hardlines are ideal camping sites.
- People on Vector whine too.  It's ironic, but it's the truth.
- Despite being a hostile server, there are some REALLY cool people there.  As proven, *unpleasant person* tend to flock to the non-hostile servers.  Why?  Because you can't smacktalk very well while perma-flagged. SMILEY

Missions are fun.  It's a great feeling checking every corner and scouting for high-level redpills.  Being cautious at all times intensifies the experience.  The moment you see red, you'll freeze up, even if that red may be a lower level.

PvP is great!  The only safe place is the loading area.  You never know when someone will pop-up out of nowhere to get you.  I love it!

As mentioned earlier, there are some really cool people there.  Not everyone is a drooling PvP bot that aggros the moment they target you.  However, there are some who do thrive on killing lowbies and will camp mission areas and whatnot.  But its all good.  Most of them suck anyway and only live when friends save them (not saying any names).

I've leveled 2 50s on Recursion and 1 50 on Vector.  Out of the three, Vector was the most fun and I highly recommend it.  However, if PvP ain't your thing and you're more interested in RP and story content...then a non-hostile server should be avoided.

"Choice.  The problem is choice."

I vacation on Vector.... I personally think it's funner on Vector too for many of the reasons mentioned. Find a good group follow ZipperQueens rules and you will be fine. You will die from time to time but it's not personal and with practice you can diminish the chance of dieing.

Reminds me of the good old days when we would trick lowbies into flagging.... Zions need to train the new recruits some more. :smileyvery-happy:
