I apologize for not putting this up earlier. As many of you are aware, Hurricane Stan has had tragic affects upon Central America and Guatemala, specifically. Our thoughts go out to those impacted by the storm and those participating in the humanitarian and rescue efforts in the region.

Does anyone knows who names these hurricanes out of curiosity?

I am sorry and my thoughts go
towards anyone affected by this disaster! Indeed, I live in the UK and
the only disasters we see is flooding which happens every few years..
it does make me think how lucky I am.

I'm not sure but I know feminists raised an issue about all hurricanes having female names a while back so whoever names them had to change ti to include male and female names.:smileywink:

Each year a set list is made, of alternating gender names, using 20 letters of the alphabet in order.
Here's an interesting article on how there is only one name left unused this year so far:
prayers to those affected by any and all of these horrible disasters.

Now that we have the explanation, let's keep this thread on the topic of Hurricane Stan and its aftermath. (Thanks for the info, Fugitiv3.)

WMO World Meteorological Organization, names the hurricanes, 6 different lists, that are used in a yearly rotation, and if the storm does enough damage then its namesake is retired and replaced.
Only started using boy names for hurricanes in 1979, up till then hell hath no fury like a woman's name storm, and the reason they name them is ease of communication, and of course they stole the idea from the military.

No offense, but I think Walrus is putting these topics up so we have
something else to post about rather than bitching about masks or
zerging. :smileyvery-happy:
But seriously, anyone affected by the disaster can piece their lives together soon.
