Well considering we pollute the hell out of her I can't blame her for being pissed. That being said let's hope no one gets hurt.

hopefully this will wake bush up to the fact that we cannot afford to be invading other countrys for their oil right now. if a direct shot to his homeland ranch doesn't do the trick, i dunno what will. but we absolutely need to stop spending so much money on third world expeditions, and start spending more money on OUR people, and the catastrophys we've been bombarded with.
Right, The National Guard should of been there to help..but they're stuck in Iraq, and yes I know the National Guard still went in but they didn't have nearly as many as they should have.

This is the eighteenth hurricane this season. It hasn't been this bad in a long time, but yes, we do have a season for hurricanes, and most of us are prepared. Keep thinking happy thoughts. Texas is very well organized when it comes to evacuations... thank goodness.
And there are two more months left in this season. Last year Florida got slammed hard and now Katrina and Rita tear up the Gulf Coast. I pray Texas isn't ripped as bad as LA and MS were.

Dont worry, texas has been hit before, and we're taking extra precations in the face of Katrina's aftermath.
Texas(not me personally though). Best wishes and everyone be
safe. Walrus, I hope everything goes okay.
We're getting feeder bands in Florida right now. The storm is massive.

Actually, according to scientists

Wrong. There is a 30 year cycle in which the hurricane season goes from inactive to active. We happen to be in the active phase of the cycle right now. That is what the media doesn't tell you. They just can't wait to blame the evil GOP and the evil anti-environmentalists. (Hey I am all for environmental issues...but lets be reasonable ...some pollution in the atmosphere is not going to cause a 175mph storm)

I agree Calliente,
I'm in Dallas, TX
but I shouldn't be hit too bad, just t-storms and possible tornadoes afterwards.
However, I do have many, many, many friends/family that live in Houston and other areas along the coast.
I can only hope the best
For any players out there in these areas,
please be safe and think ahead....
I wish everyone the best of luck
is. I
live in Texas and most of my family is too so things could get
hectic. I have a friend that goes to college in Beaumont, Tx so im
going to try and get in contact with her. Hope everyone stays safe.

Florida was hit by four hurricanes last year (Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne) and so far three this year (Dennis, Katrina, and Rita).
Rita is going to mess up Houston if it keeps on its current track--Houston will be in the worst part of the hurricane, the northeast quadrant. The storm would then hit Dallas as possibly a weak tropical storm or, more likely, a strong tropical depression.
And keep in mind, hurricane season goes until Nov. 30. The gap between Katrina and Ophelia and Rita is about a week and a half apart. Up until now, meteorologists never believed it was possible for two category five hurricanes to follow each other so closely. The rules are changing. Hurricanes are forming earlier and stronger than ever and they are coming in tighter sequences. Until last year, the idea of four hurricanes hitting Florida in the span of a few months was considered statistically nigh-impossible, but we've followed that up with three more hits this year with plenty of time for more to come.
Despite the risks for greater overall destruction here in California's earthquake country, I'll still take living here over anywhere where hurricanes can make landfall (although as the ocean warms up, some are predicting Eastern Pacific hurricanes will soon make it up to California), knowing the frequency and intensity are on the rise.

Rita is heading towards the Texas/Lousiana area and its not looking
good. Right now the winds are up to about 166mph. On record it is the
third most powerful hurricane to date. Please let us pray that no major damage is done and everyone is safe.
your post, I'm pretty sure major damage will be done, and I doubt
everyone will be safe. Lets just say God is really pissed off at
the southern portion of the US. :smileyindifferent:
But yeah, head for the hills people, Katrina was a sneeze compared to what Rita will do. :smileysad:
. This thing really shot up after it entered the warm Gulf Waters. It didn't seem like it was gonna get this bad until here recently. It looks like I'll get some bad weather, but certainly not the worst of the storm. maybe some electricity outage and a few downed trees here. Who knows, good luck to all those who are gonna be getting the brunt of the storm...I am on the east side, which is kinda scary buut not the worst. Soooo yea.Otherwise, my prayers are with those in the path of this storm.
its terrible that this has to happen yet again.. I will be praying for everyone and I hope everyone gets out safely

There will be a lot of people praying for you.

I've now designated this the official discussion thread for Hurricane Rita. Let's keep the discussion friendly in respect for all those being affected by the impending storm.
Pardon me if I'm a bit distracted today. My brother and his family are evacuating Houston today and I'm a bit concerned.
All our thoughts here are with those currently in the path of Hurricane Rita, especially those already impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

Much thanks. My bro is a smart guy and he'll do what he needs to to protect his family. They've got friends up in Tyler who are going to take them in.
Just an update for anyone who hasn't read it yet: The governor of Texas ordered all southbound lanes of I-45 closed and converted to northbound traffic only for 125 miles outside of Houston. One bottleneck taken care of.

your fam Walrus, hopes and prayers go out with you and hope that not
only your family, but the rest of the people there get out safely, and
have the minimum damage possible once this thing is over.

Some of us know that there is a Hurricane season, some of us don't. But from last season to now there has been tons of pollutions, TONS and guess what it is not stopping, It just gets worse and worse. Saving energy and beign conserative saves you money, makes prices cheaper, it is the right thing to do and you do not hurt anybody by doing it.
Are you wearing pacholli right now? I hear you though, hippy.
I wish a massive hurricane with wipe out DC. Evacate all the common people, leave high ranking officals to see what a hurricane's like from inside of the storm wall.
(knock on wood)
how many hurricanes this proportion people will get over the years. It is truly unprecedented.

Dont they pay YOU to live in alaska?
I'm in San Antonio, and the weather gurus are saying that by the time Rita reaches us, she'll still be a cat 3 hurricane. Here's the major difference, though... Corpus Christi all the way up through Galviston is above sea level. New Orleans was not. We've had cat 5's before, but not in a long while. We're stocking up on supplies just in case the electricity goes out, but other than that, we should be fine. The biggest worry isn't the hurricaine itself, but the tornados that will spawn off of it.
I hate tornados.
