#12800000112 08/27/2005 15:46:32 PVP for spy
Couple days ago i was pvping @ mara c. As usual, i put on my disguise
and perfomed sneak attack, but suddenly some guy (lvl50) just killed me
in 2 moves (i`m lvl 30), saying "attack from behind is bad"

So i want to ask your opinion - is it ok to use sneak attack in pvp or
not. I mean, i dont have any special MA moves, no self imrovement or
viral attacks, so any martial artist lvl 29 can easy kick my *CENSORED*.
However, i can make 1200 damage for once using Punt (sneak attack) and
take off more than half HP before the duel starts.

Some people find it not fair, but i dont have any choise but use it in
pvp. So tell me, should i stick with Assassin discipline, or its better
to fight "fair" and get my butt kicked all the time?

while the upper level Assassin abilities are very strong, you will begin to notice that people will start using evade shields more and more often.  Bouncing them makes you drop sneak or your disguise, so they leave you VERY vulnurable.

If you want a good spy PvP class, I reccomend Knife thrower.  You want damage?  staggering throw+throat slitting throw=any hacker with no dodge ranged dead or down to 1/8 health.

Hey...Now Punt is an awesome move. It does a lot of damage (and looks equally painful) that an MA would have to do in two or three moves. I am a level 33 and I have found punt very useful. Sneak attacks are probably the second best tree for pvp. (best being arbalest)  I have seen others killed by one or two assassin moves and also I have died by them.

I dont see anything wrong with using spy in PvP it was put in for a reason and it doesnt seem to work in missions so its ideal for PvP if anything i would say arbalest and ballista are unfair IMO

I find knifetrower really useful discipline, and i tried to be a
knifethrower for a while. However, i miss a lot, basicly because of my
low RCT, and re-use time is really long. Is there any way to increase
my RTC without going for rifleman?

#12800000118 08/27/2005 22:07:20 Re: PVP for spy
well, you can put your attribute points into focus, you can get the 9 RCT shirt, and you can carry around pistols and guns that give bonuses to RCT.  At low levels, your knives will not be as effective, but once you get throat slit, it'll all be worthwhile.

You forgot 'Find Weakness' :smileywink:

have a friend pop their evade shield for you. activate spy move. inflict massive damage or painful debuffs, have friend activate interlock again, gain cq point.

assassins are brutal if used right.
#12800000134 09/01/2005 06:28:29 Re: PVP for spy

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using Spy in PvP.  Usually the people who say that is bad are standing around with their 20 friends "pwning" the place.

I used to use Spy all the time for PvP until I got tired of all the nerfs and returned to my Kung Fu roots.

Using Spy effectively in PvP is very challenging.  As you already stated, spies have no interlock capability.  Therefore the key is to inflict a FAST stealth move and then roll out and get away.

There are a few useful quick moves in PvP:

- Disrupt Connection (good debuffs on enemy)

- Punt (humiliation and high damage)

- Reverse Bulldog (quick stun and high damage)

- Topsy Turvy (Pacification move)

The others are just as or more lethal, but have much longer animations and should only be used when in the company of friends or as a finishing move on an opponent.  Otherwise the enemy's friends have time to hack/knife/free fire you to death.

The worst thing you can do is freedom to joints in a sea of red players.  By the end of the animation, you'll be dead. SMILEY

Hey man, you have the ability, USE IT!  Its in the game for a reason.  I'm really hating the people that complain about 'such-n-such ability tree' being too strong or 'these attacks' that take too much damage...  All the complaints need to stop.  Because at equal levels, its all about strategy.  Whoever knows what they're doing the best will win.  Everyone needs to stop complaing about someone else when they loose, just accept the loss and congradulate the winner, for he/she is truly a better player than you, and has just prooved it.

In ultra high levels, say lvl 46 or higher, try mixing karate and the assasin tree.  There is a reason that the devs made it so hard to use Ki-charged swirling kick.  Use suplex to get all the status effects lined up, then in your next move use Ki-charged foot sweep.  On an opponent that u've found there weakness, it devistating.

If you set up your hotbar right, you can take out hackers with the neuro-dart(-75% movement speed, and damage over time preventing viruses from being launched) and pacify MAs with topsy turvy.

I know its been mentioned, but you can get someone else to break ur targets sheild, then u deliver the final blow.

Listen dude, all these people are right, I am a level 37 assassin with
shadow in for the invisibility (which btw doesnt work, as long as your
targeted, but thats for another post). It comes down to the fact that
you HAVE to use the sneak moves like punt and topsy turvy (very good
move, more to come on that) otherwise you will get pwned, as you said a
spy is rubbish in close combat and rightly so because a spy can sneak
around and deal high damage, but in order to stand a chance of killing
someone with the assassin tree you have to use what is given to you as
has been said over and over again in this thread SMILEY if you didnt use
punt you would be stuffed in CC.

Anyway I thort I'd just give you a good strategy that I'm positive I'm
not the first to use but I still find useful...1st off put on
disguise/sneak/invis whatever.

Then you need to find someone in pvp who has had their evade shield
broken or cross fingers and hope for the best lol. Execute Topsyturvy
on them and if it is succesful they will be pacified, pull out of CC
STRAIGHT AWAY.

Again go into sneak mode and hit them with sumthing like a punt, or one
that is fairly quick and hasnt been mentioned AND makes you hard to
target is diving frankensteiner when you hit lvl 36, that deals 1,300
dmge if my memory serves me right.

And continue this cycle. also dont be afraid of trying to sneak someone
a little higher than you because most people focus on damage resistance
and viral deflection so much that they dont raise their sneak attack
detection and/or whatever stops them from being sneak attacked (I have
been told that sneak attack detection is actually for the 1st attack in
CC and determines whether you block/shoot them or whether they DO hit
you).

As an example I am a level 37 assassin as I said and I have found that
i can sneak attack a lot, dare i say, most level 50's that i try to
attack, and if you use topsy turvey you can get another sneak move in,
or another topsy turvey SMILEY

Anyway hope this has helped, and if i have anything wrong please, anyone, feel free to correct me.

My favorite loadout now is Master Shadow plus Master Assassin up to Bulldog and Reverse Bulldog. Tested it in Mara C yesterday, it works great SMILEY

yer, but it helps if you actually have the memory space SMILEY I dont and neither does mammoth SMILEY

#12800000196 09/18/2005 11:27:27 Re: PVP for spy
shadow and knife thrower, throw a staggering knife or subduing knife, then flip on evade.. annoy's the hell out  of them, specially against a zerg :smileyvery-happy:

This is amazingly true. My level 50 friend and I made a great pvp team. He uses Kung Fu Grandmaster and I use Assassin. He breaks the evade shield, I use Diving Frankensteiner (not level 42 yet :/, still 41), and then our enemy has a few seconds before he also get nailed by the Kung Fu.

Also, I do hate when people whine that Assassin or Hacker is overpowered. If the people don't like what abilities others use, then why don't they get an equally powerful ability. A nice MKT / Assassin combo is great if you don't feel like breaking the evade shield yourself.

Funny, I was going to suggest the old MKT / Sin build.

Quick stun-knife, round the back, pop the shield, stun-knife again, topsy-turvy, and that's yer lot.
