#12300000418 10/24/2005 21:20:59 Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
Many people have been thinking this for a while now, and since the game
has 5 months until its 1 year anniversary, I would like to know if
there is an expansion in the works?

Obviously, this game needs a massive amount of content and additions.
There have been countless threads and discussions about awesome ideas for content
and expansion that could bring this game back to life, and make it worth while to
stick around.  The only problem is, since the game only sold some
40,000 copies (horribly low) I wonder if the game has enough money to
warrant attention for an expansion.  Will the game just continue
to die into darkness, or can we spark some excitment with an official
word from a dev or mod (Walrus, chime in please! SMILEY ) about what is or
is not going on in this department.

A simple yes or no with a possible timeframe would be enough for me
right now, but any and all details available would be insanely
encouraged! SMILEY

I've heard a lot of roomers of
the game getting an expansion pack but I don't see any action. If it
does I hope they finally raise the level cap and have Sword Master. You
know being able to visit a hover craft, Zion or some place significant
would be rather nice, maybe actually being able to drive a vehicle.

#12300000421 10/25/2005 06:52:55 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
I think they can add content without an expansion. They come out with
patches now with new content...why have them work even more than they
are now (possibly delaying stuff thats coming out, or supposed to soon)
and just throw em all onto a CD and put it in a box?  Yeah it
sounds nice, but I dont see why I should wait for a combat upgrade to
come in a box when they can just put it in a patch, like they are
planning...or atleast I assume.

I think we will, any decent mmorpg gets an expansion. And with a good
expansion and marketing strategy mxo can go to the top of mmo's where
it belongs

#12300000423 10/25/2005 11:22:03 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
probably wont see one until they expand the city, that will probably happen when the level cap gets a decent raise as we will need new mobs, hideouts etc.... would be cool if it came soon but i guess if it was we would have heard official press on it. :smileysad:

That 40,000 number was quite some time ago. Considering that a couple places online like Gamestop are back ordered on MxO and the number of new redpills I keep encountering are increasing, I'm sure that amount is larger since a few months ago. :smileywink:

I'll see if I can dig up any numbers anywhere, although it's unlikely. Corporate types can be pretty tight lipped about number of sales sometimes. :robotvery-happy:

#12300000425 10/25/2005 13:28:56 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?

lol I cant get my hands on MxO game cards, I tried but the stores kept saying they were sold out.

So i had to use a credit card..oh well

.
#12300000426 10/25/2005 13:47:36 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
I remember one of you said it didn't matter to make an expansion pack,
because the devs gave us it in patches, but... I don't think they will
add in Zion, hovercrafts or vehicles in a patch, if they plan on adding
that, then they will do it in an expansion pack, i think.

#12300000427 10/25/2005 15:10:48 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
I'm not really hoping they introduce a Zion...I dont see what would be so exciting about that.

But, they are planning on implementing the Combat Upgrade through
patches, so why not a major update like the ones you listed?  A CU
would be a very big deal/major patch, what makes it different than
mentioned things?  I'm not saying i'm opposed to a expansion, i'm
saying that if they can implement game upgrades through patches why
would they need to release an expansion to a super small customer base?

Also just because the game has been out for 8 months doesnt mean "Oh
well we need to release a expansion pack". I mean look at World of
Warcraft(I hate the game), they've been out for just under a year now
and there has been no expansion pack yet.  They even release new
instances, new pvp grounds, all kinds of crap in patches. No need for
the extra boxes and CDs SMILEY

#12300000428 10/25/2005 21:13:45 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
I personally dont see a point for hovercrafts, zion, drivable cars and
half the other stuff people suggest but new areas in the city, melee
weapons, and more ability trees are needed.  If/when they do
expand the city it will amost have to be in an expansion pack.
New areas of the city means more mobs, hideouts, rare drops, hardlines,
subways, vendors....you get my point.  Thats too much for a patch.

I
agree that a Good Expansion and Marketing Strategy can do good
things.  I am not so hopefull as basic things haven't been done.

o Main Sony Station has a link to MxO, but doesn't have the "Shopping Cart" icon for purchase.

o Website still has dead links stating content to be coming soon.. How
long does it take to create a static page that contains Community
Websites?

o Game Cards not for sale.  From what I have read game cards for
MxO are becoming increasingly rare, as well as the game not shipping to
stores (obvious need for rebranding).

It just doesn't seem link SOE is trying to sell this game, especially considering my first two points.

If or when this game gets an expansion, it will probably have a lot of the stuff we are looking for.

1) New ability trees can be added with patches, but new districts
cannot.  2 or 3 more districts would be to much to load in a
patch, and all of our computers would be crashing.

2) Melee weapons are definitely a must, but can't we have another style
of ranged close-combat?  Gun-fu, Gunarate, and Aigundo. Yea! Let's
go!

3) Go cars! wouldn't it be nice to Logic Cannon a car and watch it
explode, or do drive-by shootings in pvp?  Cars would have to be
in Expansion packs along with more districts.  As a level 50,
there is one thing to do if you want rare hideout items, and thats get
a level 45 and hit up Creston Heights Museum.

After you hit Level 50, you run out of things to do, so you have to sit
at Mara Central PvPing or attempting to get banned.  WALRUS PLEASE
READ THIS!! WE NEED MORE STUFF TO DO!!

#12300000435 10/29/2005 17:56:02 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
Everyone makes good paints in regard to both expantion annd patches... But goth and Doom MAke the best points. First the basics need to be coved and fixed befor any expansion is release. the main MXo website needs to have the links fix and SOE needs to add that shopping cart link to let new shoppers no the game is still alive. That is the main issue with this game. Since the change over to SOE there has been no real marketing of the game not even to let people know it still alive. A expansion definatly will  help with that because if the want to cover the cost of it the will have to aggressively market it.. And they could do it like a lot of games do which is release a 2 disc explasion for those who whould be new to the game and for those who already have it at a  single MRP for instance i can get the SWG first disc and  first 3 expansion  boxed for just 29.99. Thaat way if i want  to start as i newbie in the game i'm on equal content standing with even beta member of the game. That way we get newer members to breath new life into the game and the new content we've all be wanting.

But SOE really needs to get on the ball with marketing the game so we can grow to the levels of the other Onlines games in its catalog.

The problem with adding new districts is we already have 4 honestly the majority of us only use richland (downtown in my opinion looks the part but its like a ghost town). I also dont see the need for cars.. cars = extra lag = bumper cars at mara central. The combat upgrade will be massive to the success of this game.

#12300000458 11/07/2005 04:12:32 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?

I'd like to see more clothes, and ways to move buffs around. I hate the way my Merv character looks like a Zion, but unfortunately for my class type they are the best clothes for the job. I'd also like to see an area where I can change my hair style, facial hair, and maybe even tattoo's.

Just my two cents.

#12300000459 11/07/2005 05:40:45 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
Maybe a personal construct where we can store weapons and clothes we have found, sort of like the scene in The Matrix where Neo asks for guns, lots of guns. I do feel that this game has a HUGE potential for clothing, they help make the player feel unique, and are a great aid in roleplay.

Just another two cents.

I tend to agree but the good reason to do this is money.  MxO needs an expansion not for the game itself but to expand the player base (SOE makes money this way).  Patches won't do this, nor word of mouth, huge buggy expansions do this and usually they come out after the game has been run live for over a year to a year and a half.

Most likely SOE is going to release the combat revamp and see how it does before announcing any expansions.

umm yeah, i agree.  they are still fixing what they already have.  doubt they are eager to stuff a bunch of new things into a game they are STILL stabalizing.

*edit:  PLEASE DO NOT put cars in this game.  *CENSORED*!  hyperjumping is the only mode of transport for me.  where would they put the cars when you get out?  have them fold up into a briefcase?  they would pile up something fierce lol.

I would love to see cars in MxO, but that would mean an expansion to
the Mega City with dare I say the Highway to another part of the
city.  That would be awesome.

Adding close-ranged combat styles? How 'bout a whole new branch to the Soldier half of the Operative tree?

1) Martial Artist

2) Gunman

3) Swordsman!!!

For those who are familiar with Star Wars, in the novels, games, and
such, it is revealed that there are not 3, not 4, but SEVEN styles of
lightsaber combat! Would it be that much of a stretch to have 3 or 4
styles of swordplay? I don't know much about various types of
swordfighting, but I know there's a difference between fencing and
medieval swordplay, samurai sword techniques and those which apply more
to staves and the like.

Though I could take a pass on all that if I could just get my hands on an ingame BASEBALL BAT!!!!!

Just imagine putting on stealth, sneaking up on an opponent, and taking
a bat to the back of their knees, or cracking one over their skull!

#12300000522 12/02/2005 11:28:44 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
Ithink swordsman would be a great tree to go along with gunman as most fully specced out and disarmed gunman fnd it hard when they are without guns
#12300000537 12/09/2005 18:52:39 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
It doesnt belong at the top it belongs in the bin

#12300000545 12/12/2005 14:35:52 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
The problem with adding in swords to the game, IMO, is that *everyone* will use them, making the game seem like a Samurai showdown. If added, they would need to be extensively tested so they are not too powerful. Either way, we need to see how the CR 2.0 works before adding in any new weapons.
#12300000548 12/13/2005 08:42:07 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
I Like the idea of an expansion, but have been an SoE customer for a
couple of years as a SWG vetran (yes slate away) the fact with SoE is
do not pile to much on them, they rush things to get them out and it
will inevetably be full of bugs.  i have not yet read into the CU
but if it does what the CU did to SWG the 40,000 or how ever many
players so guy mentioned earlier, will become more like a 1000.
who knows this could be the lease of life SoE need to regan there
reputation, but for now i am not optomistic.

I have heard rumors of an expansion to include the machine and zion
worlds, and some sort of construct style merovingian program but once
again this is rumors, lets see the CU through then begin idead on
expansions

#12300000568 01/08/2006 21:45:10 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
Walrus was just asked this question in a recent interview and he said no immediate plans for an expansion so far. SMILEY
#12300000579 01/16/2006 18:17:46 Re: Are we going to see an expansion to MxO anytime soon?
They could also try and fix things that are wrong with it now rather than work on an expansion. But... knowing SOE I can say that isn't the case.
