This setting requires editing your optional useropts.cfg file. For more about the useropts.cfg, see this post.

Please note that this option in unsupported. Use at your own risk.

CameraHeightOffsetSitChair = 0.35

The above is the default value telling the game how high to position the camera when sitting on a chair or couch. You may have noticed that usually your character's head kind of gets in the way of looking around when sitting down. Worse yet, the camera gets stuck up close to your head while sitting in certain club chairs and couches.

The workaround for that is to put the following in your useropts.cfg:

CameraHeightOffsetSitChair = 0.8

That moves the sitting camera up high enough that it doesn't get stuck inside the seat's bounding box, and you'll be able to move it around freely.

This change will be made permanent (in the autoexec.cfg) in an upcoming patch, pending approval by QA. But until then, you can override it with the above setting in useropts.

By the way, let me know if you find any chairs/couches that still get your camera stuck with that 0.8 setting.

Coolio that its being included in an upcoming patch!

In the mean time, thanks for letting us know!  :smileyhappy:

Sykin says:

"Ooooo, awesome, Rarebit. I feel that many things are getting done now. Somebody(ies) need a raise...

By the way, is there an option for regular /sit? Sitting used to be one of the best ways to record in-game movies because the camera could zoom in over your head entirely but now you can still see the top of your character's head no matter what, unless you're in /mood drunk, but that's only from one angle. It's fairly annoying to know that we need Sneak Mode just to get a still frame of someone walking down a street or something."

You can also use one of the other options for regular camera height to go into a virtual first-person mode. Just set CameraHeightOffset to something like 1.5 and that should put the camera above your head, even when standing up.

Oh. Yes, there was one for that... something like "CameraHeightOffsetSitGround"; maybe someone can try that one and see if it works, otherwise I'll have to look it up when I get back in the office Monday. Seems to me the default value was really low, like 0.025 or something.

OMG, they changed the default LATE in beta, and there were lots of posts on the forums that it made making videos near impossible. And we could have changed this all along...

Perhaps, "CameraHeightOffsetSitGrnd"? :smileywink:

This setting seems a little high to me... is there a lower setting that works to free the camera from the chairs/couches, but still keeps it from being too... high?

Doesn't seem to be. You can notch it down a few hundredths and still be good, probably, but nothing significant. Those club chairs are tall.

Hmmm ok for some reason I can not see the useropts in my MxO game folder.

Yes, you have to create it yourself, its not included in the installation.

As of Update 42 (which came out last week) this is now the default setting, so there's no need to put it in your useropts.cfg.

Ah! That's why I noticed my camera higher when I've been sitting on a bench or chair!

I thought I just blanked and forgot that it was that high... SMILEY
