I remember a while back someone said that it does not make sense for a faction to be dedicated to Smith because he worked alone and didn't care about anyone else. Looking back at the first movie it seems to be the same case with Cyther. All he cared about was getting reinserted back into the matrix as a bluepill with no memory of his redpill life. He didn't care about anyone but himself and no I don't think his crush on Trinity counts. He only worked with the agents because they were the only ones who could make him a bluepill again. So I was wondering whether the Cytherites should have been named after Cyther because would he really care about them? If he was still alive he might have wanted to be the leader of them but that might have been because he wants power and fame (he did want to be someone important as a bluepill.) I could be wrong because we don't know what conversations he and Cryptos might have had.

Cypher*, Cypherites*.  SMILEY

I don't think Cypher would want to associate himself with the Cypherites, just as I don't think Neo would want to associate with E Pluribus Neo.

Cypher wanted to be reinserted only for the sake of himself.  He didn't seem to really care if anyone chose to take the red pill, he just wished he hadn't.  He wanted a comfortable life inside the matrix.  He wanted nothing more to do with the real world.  The Cypherites, despite what they say they stand for, still exist as redpills and still operate in the real world.

I think it's just easier to say "Cypherite" than "Cryptosite" or "Veilite".  SMILEY

Yeah, I totally agree, Cypher was a selfish loser, the real inspiration
of the group should be Hitch, who succesfully reinserted himself,
attacking radical Zionists while at it, but less people know of Hitch,
plus "Hitchites" sounds terrible so they gave themselves the name
Cypherites so that people would instantly associate them with
reinsertion.

This Hitch thing happened where and when?

If I remember correctly, in the comics.  One that's only available in the Matrix comic books, because it hasn't been put on the website yet.

Cypher exsists as a testament to what we do, this is why we were called cypherites.

However, our goals, having evolved and progressed, now mean that we
have also developed more names for ourselves... Amongst profanity, we
are also caleed 'The Masked'

explaining the masked is a completley different process.

hope that helps

Yeah, sorry- Hitch's story is in Matrix Comics volume 2, and can only
be read when buying the hard copy. I'll say what happened but I'll
leave a gap for those who don't want spoilers.

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

Hitch was a Zion operative freed around the time of the truce and had
some difficulty comprehending the state of peace. This was confounded
when he told his elderly parents the truth of the Matrix, they were
awakened, but died of shock upon seeing the machines and the real
world. This drove him to a hatred of Zion for freeing humans in such a
way and he wanted out of the whole thing. He brokered a deal with the
Machines, they would return him to the simulation in exchange for his
help.

Within Zion there were those who wanted
to return to war with the Machines rather than deal with a state of
peace they found bewildering. Hitch gunned down an entire crew in the
Matrix, killing them permanently, the Machines wounded him to make it
like an attack from outside- Hitch then planted a Machine bomb in the
quarters of the officer heading the pro-war movement, in return for
this he was put back in to the Matrix where he tried to get things back
to the way they were.
