What was the reason for this?  I don't understand this part of the movie (Third movie).

Let's see... happens after the disguised Smith destroys Neo's eyes and all he sees is orange code-like stuff... like he can only see the Machines.  Then Neo and Trinity finally make it to the Machine City whent his happens.

This Sentinel doesn't physically go through the hovercraft only what looks to be it's code that comes through and it shoots right through Neo's body like it's doing something to him.

I think it's meant to be symbolic of what happens to Neo at that point: he's overloaded and can't overpower the Machines anymore, so the code from that Machine overwhelms him and knocks him out a bit.

The golden light represents the "spiritual world".  Neo was attacked on two fronts at the end of the third movie: one in the physical and the other in the spiritual.  The picture in question is an attack on his spirit.

I think it shows that the machines, who are obviously sentient, also have a soul, or life force.  Although the sentinels physical body hit the Logos, Neo could still see and feel its spirit move through him.

Neo riding the Logos...get it? Ascension of the consciousness. Monad.

i think they put it in because they had a lot of money to make the movie and thought i looked cool

i could be wrong though?!?!

I think I would like to believe Blazer's theory is the most correct, but RainKing's is something to think about as well. I, myself, always just thought it looked perty.
I have no idea what you are talking about...

This place is lame

((**bleep**ing html code. -> this is my second post and yes the first one was better.))

Maybe it wasn't a sentinel.

Perhaps it was a representation of the machine world beyond technology surrpounding us. I mean neo was in the machine world and seeing it as something beyond flesh. He was seeing the technologies, the programs the ai of the things around him, and connection and interaction of those technologies and the world around him.

The sentinel entering his body may have just been a representation of his enlightenment to the system if not new way of viewing the world beyond flesh and bone. There would be just as many systems existing and moving through the air even without the bodies of the steel beasts. Or still it could be a representation of neos new enlightenment to the system. His sight as i've i said three times beyond now, beyond that of flesh and steel. The sentinel moving through his body being that moment of acension, debatedly though his moment of acension comes when smith takes his eyes and he realizes he must go beyond that which is human.

Or perhaps it was merely something that looked cool that the brothers had the budget for, and if asked they would tell you it does represent someting but they can't tell you every little thing about the matrix, so you think you have to figure it out when really you don't.

RainKingX and BlazerOx are absolutely right about it representing the machine’s spirit or lifeforce. If you listen to the philosophers’ commentary on the Matrix Revolutions DVD from the Ultimate box set, you’ll realize that the entire Matrix story is more than just a cool sci-fi story with a little bit of philosophy thrown in.There’s an entire theme overriding everything, which isn’t even made clear until the last 20 minutes of Revolutions, where Neo is able to see the Machine City (and by extension its residents) for what it really is.

Machines represent spirit.Zion represents flesh. The two meet in the arena of the mind inside the Matrix. The Second Renaissance and Matrix Revolutions act as bookends to give us an idea of how spirit and flesh became alienated from one another and that if we could see them like Neo sees them, we would not see “them” we would see “us”.The machines are that part of us that we need to become one with again.

There’s a fantastic website that begins to explain this whole process, and I highly recommend you all check it out. It’s not very long, and it’s got tons of screenshots from Animatrix and the movies to help bring its points home.Although it’s not finished yet, I’m sure you’ll begin to see some of the progression and perhaps even guess at some of the things that are coming up next. It’s at http://www.starhtml.de/architekt/leserbeitraege/4elements-und-vanexel.shtml .

:smileyvery-happy: I have said it before and I will say it again, a lot of people need to re-define how the powers out-side the matrix exist. There was nothing "spirit" about the machine city. There is a difference between machine/program individuality and a "spirit". The mistakes humans tend to make is trying to relate machines to themselves or failing to recognize the differences between a program and machine. That image is of that program.

I guess he got pwnd because there were "too many".

So far I thought this post was on point:

-LOL this was my reaction the 1st viewing.

...Maybe it wasn't a sentinel...

That was the sentinel,  the transmission of the sentinels physical being. What a lot of humans fail to realize is that the machine relationship to its shell is not defined through mere nerve endings and basic human senses. This is how the smith virus is seen in the real world and mentioned as debatable above & below.

Perhaps it was a representation of the machine world beyond technology surrpounding us... The sentinel entering his body may have just been a representation of his enlightenment to the system if not new way of viewing the world beyond flesh and bone. - Beyond the vessel of flesh that was his humanity... beyond fear... and in this particular episode beyond The Matrix itself.
