What I'm wondering is how long a time gap there is between the events of Matrix revolutions and those of Matrix Online. By the way I'm taking that the time of Beta is not canon here. It seems to be suggested that mxO takes place immediately after Revolutions, but personally I can't see that it's possible for the following reasons

Time had to pass to allow:

Zion's fleet to be rebuilt into Barges and new hovercraft.

Loads of Redpills to be freed at roughly the same time

The Merovingian and the Machines to decide to hire redpills.

A flood of exiles to hit the streets of MegaCity, and somehow escape Merovingian control to form gangs and power relations

A whole load of new abilities, such as viral attacks to be created and distributed amongst redpills and programs

The truce to be stabilised, giving time for operators to learn emergency jackout and teleporting between HLs

Other stuff I can't think of!!

Realistically I can't see all this happening overnight, and the proof for me is the two comics at the end of volume 2, which take place post truce, where death is still a threat to those who enter the Matrix and it still has a lasting effect, Morpheus warns the kid that falling off a building will kill him- not so anymore!! And Hitch killed (permanantly) his crew to stop an attempt to restart the war, and was reinserted (Cypherite anyone?, or should it be Hitchites!!) all this indictes a serious time gap between current events and the beginning of the truce.

What do you think?

I think at the earliest it's a few months after the end of the war, because it's still shaky. At the most I'd say 6 months

Yeah, I'd give it something like that too.

I think it'd have to be a bit longer than that, for a number of reasons. First and foremost, as the Commandos are all but confirmed to be exiled Sentinels and such, I don't think the Machines would render them obselete so quick (and they were the force behind the Red Eye Agents.

Furthermore, I don't think Morpheus would decend into madness so quick (nice little tidbit, there's some interesting info (don't know what time off the top of my head) by going to your installation directory, then to '\resource\dialog\1.0'. Rather revealing about old Morphie, dunno if it's been pointed out before).

Maybe a year, a year and half.

remember reading somewhere that it was 6 months

as far as hovercraft go, the novalis II was the first launched hovercraft, and this occured during the current storyline of mxo

Wow, those audio clips are pretty cool to know about >.> Do you know the directory for Morpheus' intro to new redpills before he was killed last year? I really wanna hear that again.

And beta, the Novalis II was the first refurbished hovercraft from the war, that doesn't mean Zion didn't make more or have other functioning hovercrafts. It just shows that we aren't wasting good materials, or crafts. Since we don't know the extent of damage any of the hovercrafts took durring the slaughter, then the Novalis II could have just been the least damaged and quickest to fix.

Given the tactics used by Sentinels in Reloaded and Enter the Matrix (why that is canon I will never know), it is safe to assume most of the Zion hovercraft fleet was nothing more than burned out scrap or EMP-fried hulls.  By the time Revolutions ended, most of Zion's military equipment was simply destroyed.  I don't recall off the top of my head if their manufacturing capabilities were intact or not... I would think they would be.

But you have to ask yourself one thing: if each faction has at least one hovercraft - barge or mil-spec - where did all of THOSE vehicles come from?  It's not like someone found a cache of 22nd Century hoverbombers a la The Second Renaissance.

MxO begins immediately after the truce.

"The Matrix Online is a massively multi-player role playing game that takes place immediately following Matrix Revolutions." - Toby Raganai, Lead Designer, Monolith. Source - Games fusion interview. June 24, 2004.

The framework of the Novallis II was the one in the best condition and that's why it was the first to be salvaged and repaired. If you've ever seen military mechanics at work you'd know why this is possible in a very short period of time.  We were first informed on DN1 of Neurophyte during Nightfall I think which takes place in the second month. We were given the official story of the Novallis II during Choice and Consequence which happened in fourth month. Here is the official story on that ship, straight from Tyndalls personal records ... shhh .. don't tell her I'm reading her stuff. She'll kick my butt this time for sure ...

=============================

Novalis II, Refitted Pacer Class Hovercraft, designated 227. Novalis II is our first new hovercraft, even if it is one of our old ones…

The war was hard on everyone in Zion, but the Zion Military took perhaps the hardest hit. With almost every single one of their trained redpills killed, and almost all of their hovercrafts destroyed, there was a faction within the Military that wanted to write off the Matrix entirely. Luckily for today’s redpills, an aggressive training program began instead – hoverbarges were built, redpills recruited, and the Matrix continued to be the center of the battle for the future.

It was soon discovered, however, that an older style of hovercraft was needed. These hovercraft were fast, and stealthy, and most important, they allowed a group of redpills to work independently of Zion without eyes looking over their shoulders. With that in mind, the Military set out to survey what was left of their old fleet.

Many hovercrafts, like the Brahma, were destroyed so utterly that nothing usable could be salvaged. Others, like the wreckage of the Novalis, were in fairly good shape. The Novalis’ flight-frame was more or less intact. With replacement parts already present in Zion, it was soon up and running. The only question remained: who would crew this ship?

Concurrent with the lack of hovercrafts, the Zion Military was faced with a shortage of trained redpills. Most were killed at the end of the war, and those who remained were either in training or too inexperienced to take command. It was these first days after Neo’s Truce that Zion faced a crisis of confidence.

Faced with a need to move fast and talk its way out of most of its problems, Zion most needed a person able to handle the pressures of being the first hovercraft captain after the Truce. This new captain needed to be able to talk when talk was needed, but fight hard when the going got tough. With the resurrection of the Novalis, now named by her captain Novalis II, came the promotion of a promising young redpill, Sawayaka

Sawayaka found herself in a unique situation. Both the Machines and Exiles placed unusual emphasis on her appointment. Considered the forerunner of a new era, Sawayaka and her crew became more than the first new hovercraft… they became a symbol of the new Zion emerging from war.

Combining the roles of diplomats, soldiers, and even entertainers, the crew of the Novalis II has emerged from these critical first months ready to help Zion and humanity find their way.

Oh. And we now know thanks to the Assassin and Veil aka Toorima that the EJP can be disabled by outside sources.
