Go about starting a Crew/Faction/Guild/Clan whatever you call them in this game?

Well first you have to choose your organization. Zion, Merv, Mach. Once you decide which direction you are going to go you need a rep in that org of 16 or more to create a crew. I would suggest joining a current one though. Factions can help you get used to the game and are usually a good time all around.
If you decide to go Zion please consider my faction, Children of Zion. ATM we are transitioning to a new website and the application process hasn't been totally sorted yet. If you are interested contect me ingame by typing /t Organo. Enjoy MxO!

since you are new to the game, joining an existing crew and faction is great advice. It should really speed up your learning curve, and a good crew can help you level up quickly.
If you are looking to go Zion, I'll also give a good shout out to CoZ, good group of folks.
If you are thinking about machine, chekc out the Illuminati

You need 2 players to form a crew, 2 crews to form a faction.
However, as a new player you'll learn a lot more about the game from joining an existing faction.

Don't bother making a faction. Just join one for now. If you make a faction at a low level, well, you'll get no respect and your faction will die really quick. So far only the one's that have been here for a very long time have surivived to this day.

Yeah, realistically, there are far too few people factionless for a new faction to sucessfully emerge that will have enough resources to contend against the top dogs atm (on vector at least). So honestly, I think you really should join a faction. You'll level much faster, learn awesome tricks and tactics, and have a bunch of fun in the process :smileywink:
For Zion, I'd reccomend Morpheus' Legacy or Children of Zion. If you're thinking EPN, then I'd say join another server, cause I can't think of any reccomendable EPN factions.
For Merovingian, the top ones would be Dark Mavericks and Dark Evolution. Les Enfants Terribles are great as well.
Machine wise, Systematic Chaos, The Illuminati, and the Jokerz are great. Viral Humanity is the top Cypherite faction as well.
