Hallo everyone. I'm the person whose post was quoted in toto to start this thread.
My post about hackers was envisioned as, as you might guess from the fact that it says "Part III," a three-part series written over lunch breaks.
I don't, and didn't, mean to disparage those who've (correctly) looked at the Hacker tree and saw within it game benefit. Congrats, you've done well at analyzing the game.
I'm sort of an idealist about things, particularly the Matrix, and since there was a call for comment on the Broadcast Depth forum in response to Dev Journal 01:

I thought hey, I'll offer my comment. Maybe some bit of it would be picked up and rolled into something the staff is doing. Certainly the original design was not what we'd call a smash hit commercially. Other people had different comments which were also intelligent and reasoned.
