/claim  Nice.  This came out of nowhere.

Shame about the concert being pushed back again, but you can't help stuff like that.  Good to hear that the free trial will start tomorrow.  I have a couple people that want to try it out. :smileywink:

With a new Corporate sponser comes a new simple sig for my rotator:

Now if only they would do the click-clack promo too and add the new Underarmor football cleats.  That would put a new spin on the "Boot to the face"

What exactly do we have to do to get an award and what can we /claim? It sounds really cool, just wondering if someone here has played an SOE game where they did that.

Star Wars: Galaxies vet rewards were some decoration stuff like Holograms, Models, Rugs, big*** terminals that looked like the ones on the Death Star, mainly cool/decorative stuff. There was some useful stuff like a kit that made items not decay, but mainly decorative stuff.

Now, do we need more stuff in our inventories, that we can't trade probably when I'm sitting on 3.5 pages full of stuff (and that's the bare essentials)... SMILEY.

You sure? I mean, I've seen their ads in game and what not, but I was so going to bet on "Castrol Syntec" because I see their ads more...
#10300003080 05/02/2006 06:29:51 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

Ok So I bought the game maybe a month  ago. It said  a free trial on the box, but it was expired. So I started paying to play right away, So not only did I not get a free trial month, but now your telling me the people who started before me, and now after me get the morbius code.  Am I just screwed or will  some of us relativly new players be given morbius as well?

It says one character on the free trial versions will get morbius. DO I have to create a new character, will this be awared to my existing character or will I get hosed in this deal?

#10300003081 05/02/2006 07:10:34 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006
Ooh, rewards and the /claim system sound interesting. I wonder what kind of rewards you will be able to get. It would be nice to see some rewards for high reputation with your organisation. Mabye agent glasses and an earpiece for 100 or more Machine reputation? Heh, I can hope.

Good news there, nice Other Side of the Looking Glass Walrus, it sounds great. :smileyhappy:
#10300003082 05/02/2006 08:08:04 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

A quick clarification: The only current plan for using the /claim system is for the free trial. However, now that we have the system, we can do more things with it. What that is, is up to the designers.

just please tell me somehow Ill get the morbius code as well, without having to cancel my account get the free trial and start over. (making me cancel my account just to reregister for a bonus item might not make me reregister again)
#10300003085 05/02/2006 09:45:54 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006
The fix for this is just to make the Mobius code Tradable. If we can trade it there will be no problems. Please Walrus! SMILEY
#10300003086 05/02/2006 10:00:16 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006
Thanks for the explanation, Cal. I'm a dope, because I played SWG and used the system myself! I didn't realise Walrus was talking about the same thing.

Walrus wrote:

Well, definitely set something up for long-term accounts aka "Vet Rewards" like SWG did. (3 month, 6 month, 12 month, etc. players with active accounts)

#10300003087 05/02/2006 10:12:40 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

I`d like to make a comment on the following:

I’ve seen some comments from veteran players about how we’re making these Abilities less special by adding them to a free trial. Why would we choose to use those Abilities instead of new ones?

The answer is simple: Both Abilities are highly useful at early levels. It’s a great incentive for new players to stick around and really get to know The Matrix Online. However, free trial players will only get one copy of each Ability—not one on each character. We want them to get in and enjoy the game, but we also don’t want to make the vets feel their earned rewards aren’t valuable.

Why would be choose to use those instead of old ones? Because the beta jump doesnt use any buffer space and if you pvp, you can remove the need for loading the normal jump giving you an extra few buffer units to load another attack/defense move. So your answer to that question is that we would use the old ability in pvp because it is an advantage over players who dont have it. Allowing the so called vets the ability to have extra moves loaded whilst still having the rather major advantage of being able to jump out of danger.

Personally I started playing around November `05 and I have neither of the beta jump nor the mobius code.

I think the both of them should either be written off or made available to all players. When you think about it I helped to test cr2 and what did I get? a cruddy cap thats no use to man nor beast.

edit* by all means give it away on the trials and such but you should make it available after a certain level to all players,, after level 10 for example when you earned your normal jump anyways,, then you have that option in pvp.

#10300003095 05/02/2006 12:45:51 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

It doesnt matter how I read the notes Nicksie my point still stands fair and square and that is that anyone who has mobius code and (mainly) beta-jump have a distinct advantage over others when it comes to pvp.

Soe say how they are very useful to low levels but didnt actually mention anything about how useful they are to high levels also.  I am merely pulling all sides of the argument into the conversation.

Ask yourself the question - Why are all the "VETS" asking Soe why they are giving out those two abs instead of creating new ones?  sry but the answer points to "becoz they dont want these new players to have that advantage" ,,  selfish as it is.

There are many ways to look at it and I apologise if this is somewhat annoying to yourself but what this all boils down to is that there is a balance issue here, and players like myself who do not have these abilities are quite frankly feeling a bit cheated.

What I`m trying to get over is that these abs if they are being made available to new players on trial should be made available to everyone who currently plays.

edit* they could have it like the increased red frag drop rates or the vendors buying abilities thing where you could buy these 2 abs from a vendor for a limited time only,, make them untradeable and singular to inventories/code storage and then remove them after a set period of time...

I agree too, if you're giving it to new players you should give it to the exhisting players who have supported this game & kept it alive so you could even have this trial. I understand wanting to do whatever to get new players to try the game, but you shouldn't do it at the expense of exhisting players.

And you can't just give Mobius because that would screw over players like myself who have Mobius but not HJ Beta.

#10300003099 05/03/2006 16:00:38 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

maybe Im being ignorant to beta jump, is there a dif btween beta jump and hyper jump. If so I retract my statment about the devs can keeps it/ I want it.

But no matter what give me morbius or give me a subscription to a non SOE game

#10300003100 05/03/2006 19:37:31 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

Beta Jump is locked at level 10, but it doesn't use up any memory points to load.  This makes it less than completely useful for exploring and whatnot, but VERY useful as a combat manuever because most people have a better use for the two points it takes to load HJ.

Oh, and for the record, I think this is a little cheap too.  I've been around since last April, so I missed out on all of the Beta stuff (fine by me, really.  It was a Beta incentive and reward, and it's fine by me if it stays that way) but I don't think new players should get something I (or any other long term but not Beta players) didn't really have the chance to.

#10300003102 05/04/2006 22:44:40 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006
Its pretty cheap that because I didn't pre-order the game so I didn't get HJ-Beta (it was the "prize" for pre-order and not Beta like the clothes. I got the game the day it came out and new players are getting it? Its a little unfair. They may as well give every account ONE HJ-Beta (like they are doing for the free trial, only one character is getting it and not anyone they make)

#10300003103 05/05/2006 03:44:56 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - Monday, May 1, 2006

How angry am I? Cold.

New players get a nice HJ-beta.

I have been paying for this game for a year now (missed pre-order and by the time I could afford to buy HJ-Beta, the dev's had decided to make it non-tradeable), and what do I get?

I get the ...

And what about all the others that have joined between beta and now? What do they get?

The same, they get the same too.
