#10300002515 02/23/2006 17:55:33 Cypherite faction tags
You may have noticed that Cryptos has put out a call for those looking to take an active role in the Cypherite group.

As you know, the Cypherites will not be playable as an Organization. However, we have worked out a way by which factions can obtain public recognition of their allegiance to the Cypherite cause.

Read Cryptos' post carefully, and follow the appropriate link to his follow-up post on your own server's board. Here you will find a cryptic message, and the name of Cryptos' liaison officer on your server.

Those sending the correct solution to Cryptos' riddle to their server's Cypherite liaison will be able to meet with the liaison and apply for membership in the Cypherite group. The liaison may have an additional puzzle or challenge for you to fulfill before you are approved.

A Machine-aligned faction applying in this way to the liaison may ask for a special Cypherite tag to be added to their faction name. Once the liaison has approved your faction for membership, they will send the name of your faction leader, or selected representative, to SOE Customer Support.

<strong>Please note that your faction must be Machine-aligned, and must wait for the Cypherite liaison on your server to contact Customer Service on your behalf. Customer Service will ignore requests for faction tags that do not come from the liaison.</strong>

After the liaison contacts Customer Support with your faction's name tag request, a Customer Support technician will locate your faction's representative in-game, and arrange a time for the tag to be added to the faction name. Changing the tag requires that all members of the faction are logged out of the game at a certain time. If the tag attempt fails because someone in the faction was not logged out, you will have to arrange for another attempt with Customer Support. It may take up to a week to be contacted by Customer Support, as they have kindly volunteered to do this service for us on top of the vital duties they perform in keeping the servers a safe place to play.

Once the tag is successful, the name and faction name above your character's head will look something like this:
<div align="center">
<strong><span style="color: #44e2e1">Charactername - Machines
<My_Faction -</span> <span style="color: #0000ff">CYPH</span><span style="color: #44e2e1">></span></strong>
</div>

If you want to have the tag removed, you will have to go through the same time-consuming process of contacting the liaison, who will Contact Customer service, and arrange a time, etc. So please keep in mind that what is done, is not easily undone, and you should not request this tag lightly.

We know that many of you were hoping to have Cypherites as their own Organization. We know that this faction name tag is not quite as cool as that would have been. However, we hope that it will still be a valuable tool for those of you wishing to be known publicly as a Cypherite faction.

Please note that this tag only applies to factions; tags will not be added to individual or crew names. Those wishing to participate in the Cypherite group in a less public manner are still encouraged to contact your server's Cypherite liaison and see what sort of secretive activities or functions may be available.

Look for a similar service to be offered for E Pluribus Neo in the near future. Just as a head's up: just as the Cypherite tag is only available for Machine-aligned factions, the E Pluribus Neo faction tag will be available only for Zion-aligned factions. This restriction is for storyline and PVP reasons. Thank you for your patience, and good luck to those wishing to join these groups!

EDIT: Your faction will be able to see your new tag when you log in after the change has been made successfully. Other players will not be able to see it until the servers are restarted.

EDIT #2: There is a limit of 41 characters, visible or invisible, on faction names. The blue CYPH tag adds 21 characters, since it includes two spaces, a dash, and 14 invisible color coding characters. Therefore, any faction with a name longer than 20 characters will need to come up with a shorter version of their name when asking for a tag.

Sykin says:

"Seems time consuming, but I love the new direction. Good idea Rarebit/Dev Team. Will the CYPH tag be, infact, dark blue?

In any case, I enjoyed seeing this. I can't believe so many excellent things (and excellent players such as my friend Jobi and TasteeWheat) are making a comeback to this game leading up to what's sure to be quite a historic time for the community and the Matrix itself."
#10300002519 02/23/2006 18:13:29 Re: Cypherite faction tags

Great news SMILEY

P.S. I think the Cypherite factions in each server should just join together and be one faction, communication and stuff like that would be much easier.

Awesome!
#10300002521 02/23/2006 18:23:30 Re: Cypherite faction tags

I'm not sure this was spelled out specifically: The tags do not designate a separate Organization for PvP purposes. If you have the Cypherite tag added to your Faction name, you will still be a member of the Machine Organization.

I would, however, like to thank Rarebit, HCFrog, and the CSR team for working out how to do this. I'm glad everyone will have a chance to "show their colors" during this portion of the MxO story.

No, it won't. Niobe *is* Zion at this point. Zion has no Live Event characters other than Niobe and her people (Ghost, Anome). She is irreplaceable.

like rarebit/walrus said. This only applies to machines. But if you don't want the tag then don't request it to be changed but still contact the cypherite liason in order to secretly be inducted into the org.

Walrus/rarebit/hcfrog/etc,,,,
thanks so much. Even though I won't be going this route, this is something vital to the storyline I feel and was a perfect work-a-round to not puting more strain on yourselves for creating more content for these (although the puzzle and meetings content seems like work but really is doable). This is actually a really good way of puting this into the game and I applaud you for thinking of it cause its even more cool that you have to solve a puzzle in order to become a cypherite! really good job guys. A+

#10300002536 02/23/2006 19:59:30 Re: Cypherite faction tags
No, I mean posting stuff for their cypherite characters on the forums under a First characters name.
So... if you were in the KoN but also wanted to play a Cypherite... The stuff would still show up under your first characters name, a Zionist.
Meh. Never mind.

There are places to hold discussions other than these forums, y'know... :smileywink:

Oh, and huge props to the devs. As much as I hate the Cypherites, I'm glad this is going to be done. At the very least, it gives us some definitive targets to shoot at, since so many people wear bandanas as fashion statements and enhancements these days.
#10300002538 02/23/2006 21:06:26 Re: Cypherite faction tags

1. Thank you Devs, this is perfect. It give recognition to the "real" Cypherites...its all we wanted...

2. Thank you Liasons, (on Syntax at least) you have done an awesome job of keeping in touch with us...it'll be a pleasure working with you in the future.

3. Thank you for a puzzle of some sort..although we solved it already (-sob-) it was great to have a "brain teaser" like back in the good old LE days...thanks again!

#10300002542 02/24/2006 02:09:47 Re: Cypherite faction tags
While I'm not going to be taking advantage of these extended tags, I do applaud the devs for implementing them.  It doesn't seem like you always listen to the players, but at least in this case you have, and you deserve some major props for doing it, and doing it so quickly.

I have a question, is it a new org (/orgnames) or only a name change ( - cyph)?

Ergo, all people who have their name changed as such will still be considered part of the Machines in terms of organizations. It has been clearly stated that there will not be a new organization for the Cypherites - this is only a change in terms of roleplay, so that all those who wish to be known as Cypherites (like Somnus Fraternitas) will finally have that chance. It is, essentially, a change in faction name only.

Which is rather unfortunate. As much as I appreciate this, I'd still like my chance to take on MCPD and TC in pvp, outnumbered or not. Oh well. I can be happy with this.

Now since not every Exile is the mervs friend, they should get a tag too ^.^
#10300002550 02/24/2006 08:48:30 Re: Cypherite faction tags
Off Topic: Yeh, niobe is still part of zion, she enever split. Which is odd and raises the question if the story has been radically changed cos of the no time for new orgs thing.
Paul chadwick orginally had her going off completly, i wonder what the zion councils direction would have been... I mean shes managed to pull them over to her vendetta against the merv in our version but her and the council would've been seperate in the orginal storyline.
Bit worrying really cos they must've big changes and sacrifices to the story but then against pauls been overlooking it  all so i doubt he would've let to be too bad.
I have faith  :smileyhappy:
On Topic: You kick *CENSORED* devs! You saw what made the players angry and you've actually done something about it, the way mmos should work. Also, why 'CYPH'? Why not just 'Cypherite'?

Yes, from what the CSRs have just told me, it won't show up for everyone else until the servers are restarted. And no, I'm not sure when the next restart will be, but hopefully not more than a week.

Awesome move devs! Just when I'm starting to lose faith, you guys manage to pull off another one of those "minor", but crucial boosts to the game and the community's morale. Even though I'll never go Cypherite, it's nice to know that I can now have the pleasure of knowing who my enemy is and how to hunt down...

Ok, now that I got that out of the way, quick question:

Since you're apparently abbreviating Cypherite tag to Cyph, how will E Pluribus Neo tag be abbreviated?

Once again, thank you guys for continuing to be dedicated to this little underdog of a game. Things might not have turned out like we all wish it would have, but as long as you guys don't give up, neither will we. SMILEY

"CYPH" stands for "Cypherites"; they're the bandana-wearing people you might have seen in missions and stuff. They want redpills (players) to return to the pods and go back to living normal everyday lives in the Matrix.
#10300002575 02/24/2006 19:55:45 Re: Cypherite faction tags
Except they are called "masked -insert tree here-"  during the missions.
#10300002576 02/24/2006 20:06:21 Re: Cypherite faction tags
Finally, a way for we fanatic zealots (on either side mind you) to at least let people know we don't run with the normal people of our orginization.  I have to admit that it gets tiring trying to explain that though I may have a Zion alliegance I am by no means a "Zionist."  Can't wait for the same service to be offered to E Pluribus Neo sympathizers.

Awesome ideas from the dev team...man Kudos to all of those who made this possible.
#10300002578 02/24/2006 21:45:41 Re: Cypherite faction tags
Will this happen to any other organization. Since having this "tag" doesnt make you a Cypherite, it only says you are allied with the Cypherites, would it be possible if it would come out for other orgs?
#10300002580 02/24/2006 22:31:51 Re: Cypherite faction tags
The Cypherite tag is a Machines only affair. Other orgs cannot get them. Those are the instructions for the CS people and the way the system was set up. Same for Zion and EPN tags. If there were ever another branch, it would be for the Merovingians only... but with the Merv making plans to leave the Matrix... I doubt you'll need another tag soon =P
