Finally SMILEY i'm looking so much forward to play on the test server again. I've really missed it. I think this is something that will make the game even better when the comunity can test the pathes and come with new addtitions and so on... Same about bugs... it will defently take down the number of bugs in patches... Really looking forward to this.

Thumbs up SOE

Good to hear Walrus.  The test server will be like beta community
all over again I love it.  Being able to copy characters is a
major plus it will get more people involved.

Test server does bring back the old days. Hope people remember they are testing, not just hangin on a less laggy server :smileytongue:

One question, will it be hostile? You know.. we gotta test out the abilities for pvp :smileyvery-happy:

#10300001286 11/04/2005 18:19:08 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
Walrus I was wondering since you are posting links to threads from the
community, I was wondering if you could bring back the Screenshot of
the Week and Caption of the Week like old times.

It better not be hostile.

My question is this: will the external test server stay, or will it exist for the combat changes, and be shut down after they're added to the live server?
#10300001288 11/04/2005 18:55:45 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
*cough orien*

:smileyhappy:

Anyway fantastic to hear the QA server is returning. Even if it is just implemented for the revamp testing. And great to hear we can test using our existing characters. A few concerns though, will the QA server create copies of our characters? Or will they be linked to the originals on the live servers?

By this I mean, we spend money on the new abilites etc on the test server, will our funds be affected on the live servers?

Awesome news Walrus.

It's good to hear SOE has taken into consideration how much we want to help the new combat system improve.

Ah, it's gonna be just like Beta.

I can't wait.

First,
thanks Walrus for the feedback, it is really appreciated. I feel MXO
reborn these days and it is going to be complete I hope with the new
content comming (revamp, combat 2.0,...).

Second, I find the FAOrien Ideo very very good, I also want to see much
more exchange between community and GM, through for example weekly
contest or so SMILEY

Cheers, and thanks Devs and Mxo Team for all your great job.

#10300001291 11/04/2005 19:51:18 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
good stuff, walrus.  let's hope 2.0 has something to do with attacking the person, i.e. body parts (by previous beta request) and not playing rock, paper, scissors, cover.
#10300001292 11/04/2005 20:52:58 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
...I finally figured out my purpose...why I am here...why I came here to begin with...

...to test...it gives me reason; gives me purpose. Yes, this is my life.

Kudos on top of kudos. A test server...a chance to test out new stuff,
give feedback, be directly connected to what devs are working on.
Ahhh this is why Beta was the greatest time...

<3 For MxO!

#10300001294 11/04/2005 21:28:07 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
This is excellent news.
Truly, the game's development continues in a positive direction.
I'll see you guys on the test server. SMILEY

Thank You!!!  That is all I have to say, it is truely great to see, I just hope that the servers won't explode.
#10300001296 11/04/2005 23:24:44 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
Excellent news. One thing, will it be hostile? Or at least vary between hostile and non each week or something? Because we don't want to find that with non-organised pvp that something's overpowered again.
#10300001297 11/05/2005 01:11:00 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005

Combat revisions eh?

/shrug

A test server is something that's been needed for a while in my opinion and thanks for that. :robotvery-happy:

But how about some news on when we are going to get another event? Three months from now? Next week?

I'm sure combat revisions are the top priority for the Dev team, but another part of the game is being left in limbo and people are quitting because of it. How hard is it to log into a main character and hang out for an hour at a hardline?

Since the transition my strong faction has turned into a handful of people on a couple leaky boats. And now that handful are making noises about retiring. It's not problems with combat. It's a complete lack of direction. There are fewer and fewer reasons for them to log in. I recruit new people, but they quickly get bored grinding missions, and since they don't know if they will ever see any LE characters in person they wonder why they are here. I've heard this many times from people who bother to tell me they are leaving the game.

Seriously. How difficult can it be to grab Niobe ... pick a random hardline .. find a couple random redpills .. and go on a mission or two. Or log into the Merovingian or any of his lackeys and hit up a party.... or even start one! Why can't Agent Pace show up occasionally and lead some machinists on a mission or two? Or Agent Gray leading the assault at the daily PvP war at Mara C for a few minutes? It doesn't have to be big giant huge events. When people ask "Have you had a run in with LE characters" at least half the time it's some little thing they remember. Shaking Niobe's hand.... kissing Persephone... The Merovingian saying hello to them.... things like that.

This is becoming .. as the Architect would say .. a systemic problem.

Depends.  Are the devs getting paid extra for it?  Do they have enough free time to do such things?  They've already said that LET character appearances will be reduced, at least for the foreseeable future.

That said, I'm sure there will be some LET character appearances this month, with Cryptos' amazements and whoever wrote the brooding message in the Sentinel.

Kick-*CENSORED*, im really liking the way mxo is going  :smileyhappy:  Yay for SOE!

Also, post ya questions here guys but dont expect answers straight away, my guess is walrus will collect feedback and questions from this thread and the rest of the forums then address those questions in a later DN1 update.

Keep 10mins free (even just once a week) and there you go
#10300001303 11/05/2005 05:10:59 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
We’re working on a way to transfer characters over to the new
test server, so you won’t have to start over from scratch

Quick question, what exactly do you mean
by transfer? Transfer as in copy your character to the test server, or
transfer as in move your character off a Live Server to the test one?

#10300001304 11/05/2005 08:13:38 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
I just hope that the major combat revamp isnt anything thing like what SOE is doing to SWG.  Action -RPG?  No thanks.

#10300001305 11/05/2005 08:30:30 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005

Hey walrus, an idea to get low level testing would be to offer those players something worth their while and it would HAVE to be on their main. Maybe a small amount of info per week, say 1 million, for logging in and leveling that character X amount of times for X amount of time.

say I log in 5 times for 1 hour periods over a week, I would then get 1 million in info deposited to my main character or whatever character I choose. That way you enourage players to start as low levels, just a thought, looking forward to seeing what you guys have cooked up.

#10300001306 11/05/2005 09:46:14 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
One question, will it be hostile? You know.. we gotta test out the abilities for pvp

The last one was not hostile. And for a QA server it would make far more sense for it to remain non-hostile. And there is nothing stopping you from typing in /pvp whenever you want to =)
#10300001307 11/05/2005 10:04:38 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
After this revamp, I think the next thing should be Agent AI.
(Something that still hasn't lived up to my expectations of the game).
They shouldn't do as much damage, and if you could get them to
hyperjump, or even regular jump, that would be an improvement. If an
agent is out there for more than 60 seconds, have another one spawn..
You know.. sometthing else that would make agents entertaining but have
them not as powerful.

#10300001308 11/05/2005 12:42:16 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
This all sounds great. Especially letting us transfer charachters over there - that will encourage a TON more people to go on the server.

I just hope that the usefulness of the server will be better than in the old days. I remember ccr'ing TONS of stuff MULTIPLE times - and then the bugs still showed up in the next patch

#10300001309 11/05/2005 17:01:44 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005

No matter how the revamp turns out, I'll still be around as long as the LET continue to show up at player events.  Once that ends, is when my subscription to MxO will be on the verge of stopping.

I'm looking forward to the changes.  Actually, any change for MxO would probably be a good change.  But it would be nice if the revamp helps Machinist to become more of a substantial enemy without the grotesque numbers of Zionists.  Maybe with the combat revamp, one Machinist could be able to stand up against multiple enemies without the need of buff enhancements.

After the revamp, the main thing the really needs to be looked into is, multiple PvP styles.  Capture-The-Flag, or something like it, would be great!  Or a tangible, fragile item that enhances players for which other players would try to destroy, therefore causing purposeful PvP.
#10300001310 11/05/2005 19:05:10 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
Any word on the Live Events Special Interest Group?

#10300001311 11/05/2005 22:34:18 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
only thing i dont like is hacker tone down SMILEY
#10300001312 11/06/2005 02:34:03 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
So, basically, there's no diference between a hostile server and a non-hostile with pvp turned on? There is a BIG diference. This is partly why the hostile server is the least populated, because of the number of hackers doing area hacks, and so on. There is a diference, and I would like the combat to reflect it. Not all pvp are duels.
#10300001313 11/06/2005 07:42:10 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
Excellent, I look forward to testing it out.

Although we do need some clarification about the transfer logistics and the rules of engagement on the QA server.
#10300001314 11/06/2005 10:22:18 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
Why is it that the CONSTRUCTS are mostly overlooked. This is where PvP was born.

So was there a name copyright on QA? Will the new server be called Beta, or how about Incubus?

Good to see some momentum building. LOoking forward to more.
#10300001315 11/06/2005 19:04:28 Re: The Other Side of the Looking Glass - 11/04/2005
Good news, Walrus. I'm glad you guys are taking the community's advice and having an open test of the new combat system. This will save you guys a ton of work and make the combat revamp better and come out quicker. If only the QA was somehow attached to the current game, but I guess a seperate download isn't that big of a deal.

Now what about LESIG? :robotvery-happy:

Maybe they can make certian parts of the city pvp only? Say downtown could be hostile.

I look foreward to testing this new patch out, looks like the dev's are going to do what they should have done in the first place with combat, and the hackers to boot.  Redundant statements yes I know this.
