#36300553691 04/09/2009 07:35:35 which abilities shood i level?

like im lvl 8, and i loose all my money trying to lvl all my abilites, right now i am lvling awakened, combat insight, combat toughness, execute program (cause of download mission map ) and ofcourse download mission map which caps out at 10.

(no offence) but i know this game sucks, but its hard for me to believe that it sucks so hard that i cant even make the money to lvl my abilities from missioning. so what am i doing wrong? am i not supposed to level all these skills? please provide any helpful insight

thanks

try making money like the rest of us, the game does not suck, and its extremely easy to make money

#36300553699 04/09/2009 08:30:48 Re:which abilities shood i level?

Missioning provides more than enough $i to level up your abilities, add to that the $i you loot from dead NPC's and selling the crap you pick up from them. Perhaps it's not the game that sucks but the player?

No worries, just get a higher level player to help advise you as to what you might do to get a more effective loadout and what you can do to get more money from missions, etc.  What server are you on?

Oh come now, I can see how a new player might be frustrated if they're just diving in without knowing the best way to level, what abs to load, etc.

Just replying in the same tone as the question, nothing more.

Besides from someone who previously made a thread stating that they've already got the archive rewards they want and was asking which Archives gave the best XP I'd assume that they'd at least have a fairly decent handle on how things work by now. Unless it's an alt, I'm surprised that after getting the archive rewards they're only lvl 8.

Perhaps I've just forgotten what it was like to be new.

Data Mining is a good way to get extra information, but i would probably suggest you leave this for later as at a higher level you can get much more information quicker (which in turn would pay for the cost of levelling the abilities).

But farming NPC's is a good way to get information as well, best to find a collector item you want and farm for that, that way you end up with a nice buffed item as well as some extra cash

Michel in Tabor Park is a prime example.  He is more than happy to trade experience and info for demonhead medallions.  At level 8 you should be able to rack in some decent dough.

#36300553713 04/09/2009 09:32:59 Re:which abilities shood i level?

u should read your ability description some sat TBD or to be determined = worthless

others like combat insite if you lvl it it u will see 10% forcecombat is highest you can go so its worthless too level up

on one character is its lvl 11 and has no need too wast 8 mill too lvl it up any higher

#36300553778 04/10/2009 01:41:02 Re:which abilities shood i level?

You're only level 8 so just keep grinding missions and raiding neighborhood gangs.  Get a team going with players in your level range as it makes the grind go faster.  Take stuff you don't need and sell to vendors.  As you level you'll get more $ on missions and kills.  Look for the 3 chevron gang members when farming as they usually will drop more $.  You can also tap data nodes in Richland while missioning and farming.  It takes a little time but soon you'll have more info than you need.

#36300553779 04/10/2009 01:48:25 Re:which abilities shood i level?

You can do chapter 5 and 10 (I think?) archives to get some decent cash. Unlimit and Accelerated NPCs drop nice amounts most of the time after being defeated.

Edit: Also, once you reach level 10 and able to learn Kung Fu style or whatever you're aiming for, you don't really need to level the Awakened ability till you're 50ish.

#36300553780 04/10/2009 02:25:34 Re:which abilities shood i level?

While you can level up Abilities in the Ability Tree, doing so doesn't show you what benefit (if any) is being gained from spending the $info to level them up.  So, you want to Level Up your Abilities from the Upgrade Panel on the L Key.  When you click an Ability and then click the + button, the text window will show you the Points and/or % Bonus to be gained from spending the $info.  If no Points or % Bonus appears in the text window, don't click Accept.  Some Abilities (like the Styles) will give you Points and/or % Bonus at every level.  Other Abilities won't give the advantage until you apply 2, 3, 4 or even more levels to them.  Still other Abilities will only give Points and/or % Bonus up to a certain level and never again, no matter how high you level them.  The Upgrade Panel with its preview window will let you see if you are going to get any advantage before you spend the cash.

P.S.: Even if you have Kung Fu or another Style after hitting level 10, you had better level up Awakened because it directly affects the Self Defense Style, which is used for every single gunshot you fire, regardless of any other Style(s) you have loaded.  So, if you ignore Awakened, you'll suck at ballistics.

#36300553795 04/10/2009 07:08:02 Re:which abilities shood i level?

Level Awakened only as much as you have to*. Level hyper jump (when you get it) no higher than lvl 25. Level Hacker only as high as you have to. If you are not a hacker, then don't go above 10. Level Download mission map to 10. Level Run Program, Hacker style, Coder style (the first coder ability with defenses, not the one that improves coding by points) and of course whichever abilities that are in the tree that you choose. Oh, and level all abilities in the spy tree that are necessary to load lock picks.

* Leveling abilities only as much as you have to. What I mean by this is that if you want to load an ability (for example, Hyper Speed) and it requires Hyper Jump to be at lvl 25, then just level hyperjump to 25. I do this to save info and in some cases, leveling the ability more than you have to does nothing for your character's strength. Another example of this is Awakened; I think the upgrade is Sneak Detection, which I never do unless PvPing. So I don't level Awakened because I don't want those particulare upgrades. When you get to a point where money is no longer an issue, it makes do difference either way. If you are leveling multiple ability trees, do your homework and level abilities that will strengthen your new abilities.

Yes some abs grant say a 1% bonus to such-and-such every 5 levels, for example.  So you get no benefit from levelling most abs every single time you level up.  What I do is choose carefully and level those abs that give a bonus every single level (like Hyperjump, Determination, etc.).  Then, I go about my business and as I get extra money I just bring up the others here and there over time.

One of the many reason things are as they are. The entire community has gotten severely clique-ish and honestly just overall rude for no reason. If it's not the devs (or lack thereof) driving people away, it's the players. Always one or the other.

Perhaps, but I do remember when I was new I didn't go around blaming my lack of knowledge/skill/experience on the game. In this case, my response was appropriate to the originating comment, imo.

Besides, the amount of people showing willingness to help in this thread alone let alone the Redpill rescue section seems to show that overall the community is still one of the better ones out there with regards to aiding new players.

I know right.  There has been absolutely nothing in the last couple of years or so that could have happened that demotivated our community and turned some of us into jaded, angry little subscribers who feel nothing but disdain for how the greatest MMO was tossed aside like a forgotten toy.

No reason at all!

Its really ironic we have this critique of MxO players lately ...from a little while after launch (after the ADHD kiddies got bored and left) right up until a few months ago, I daresay we were the nicest, most civil, helpful and friendly group of players you'd ever find in any MMO.  Gee, I wonder what happened?  Hmmm....

I get what you mean, I used to play this game pretty heavy myself until I just got fed up and left. (Decided to check it out again recently, I always do have the best timing...)

Still though, jaded or not, I seriously believe that every new player should be treated like gold regardless, especially with the current situation. You have people that've been here for years packing up and leaving, and being replaced by people who are new, and quite frankly couldn't care less. It's much easier to drive them away, and they'll turn around and leave as quickly as they came.

So what if he goes off on a stupid rant about how "the game sucks". All you have to do is show him the way.

Hardly makes sense to reply with "Yeah? Well you suck!", no?

The fact that the OP never bothered to respond to those of us here who went out of our way to post helpful advice, even though its in the wrong forum, speaks volumes.  Croesus is 100% right about this.  And, why should we sugar coat anything anyway?  If there's no support, no content, no development from SOE anymore than there's no amount of sucking up to new players that can turn around the mass exodus of the player base.

Precisely.

Plus tbh, suggesting to the guy that the problem may not be down to the game but down to him is showing him the way. I've helped no end of new players but I always treat them as I would any player old or new and as such a polite or even normal request for help goes down a lot better than a rant.

Personally, I don't see the point of mollycoddling new players, especially now. It's all well and good giving them a big welcoming hug, wrapping them up in a metaphorical big fluffy blanket, making them feel special when all your succeeding in doing is increasing the likelihood of them packing up and leaving when the blanket gets taken away (because face it, noone gets treated like a new player for very long) and the reality of the situation sets in.

However that may just be me and as I said before the other responses to the question (ignoring the tone of it) hardly exhibits traits which Amad3us claims the whole community has.

#36300553892 04/11/2009 05:28:59 Re:which abilities shood i level?

New players should know that there is no support or updates for this game. It doesn't stop anyone from enjoying the content that's already there.
