If Heath Ledger doesn't win Best Supporting Actor, i'm gonna go on a rampage.

You just never know if you're RP wife is a psychologically insane IC axe murderer. :/

I'm also curious to know if he wins, but i don't want to sit through the academy awards because i only see about 3-4 movies a year and don't know what's going on

SlumDog won Best picture 7 overall Oscars  Besides Rouke not winning im Really Poed that he didnt win the oscars were much better this year i think they were overall the best since the 2004 when Return of the King won  i hope they keep this format for next year.

#36300546326 02/22/2009 21:10:05 Re:81st Academy Awards

In ever director's face, except for Danny Boyle's, I could tell they were all thinking "I would so totally win right now if I wasn't up against that f****er who did Slumdog Millionaire."

It was a great movie, and I'm glad it won Best Picture, but did it really deserve all 7 of those Oscars?

#36300546327 02/22/2009 21:15:10 Re:81st Academy Awards

I havent seen it my parents just came home from it they said they really thought it deserved it they thought it was one of the best movies last year

#36300546328 02/22/2009 21:16:13 Re:81st Academy Awards

Im glad heath ledger won!

Iv never heard of this Slumdog Millionaire until the news this morning.

#36300546329 02/22/2009 21:21:10 Re:81st Academy Awards

my mom n dad saw it this evening they recomend it i see it i wasnt broke at the moment and im waiting for Watchmen to come out  i have Slumdog on my netflix list when its ready to come out on dvd wich now it won a oscar im sure it will be very shortly.

#36300546330 02/22/2009 21:30:43 Re:81st Academy Awards

Watched all of it and thought it was decent enough.. Hugh did a pretty good job despite all of the "omgz hes not a comedian!!1!" talk leading up to the show.  I really hadn't seen many of the nominated movies this year so I didn't have my hopes riding on anything in particular.  Great to see Heath win though, and Wall-E is a very worthy winner too.  It's too bad Wall-E didn't win for best song as it was a great song by a great artist (Peter Gabriel), but the stuff from Slumdog was pretty cool too.. and Slumdog won everything else this evening so it wasn't exactly a shock heh

Definitely have to check out Slumdog when it comes out on DVD.. so many awards and it actually looks pretty good too.

I must say I'm curious why no Watchmen footage was shown in the closing credit roll/2009 movie preview.. they certainly weren't just showing the potential Oscar winners for next year.

#36300546332 02/22/2009 21:47:08 Re:81st Academy Awards

Slumdog Millionaire was really good, actually.  It was all done very well- funny at the right moments, sad at the right moments, cinematography was excellent, and everything else.  But I think the Academy should have recognized some of the other great films tonight instead of giving it all to Slumdog.

I was fortunate to watch it in my hotel room this weekend because I got to have the subtitles on which really helps.  A lot of them have some thick accents and I don't think I would have appreciated it as much if I hadn't had the subtitles.  So if you're hard of hearing or something, wait for the DVD with subtitles.  :)

after Dark Knight geting scrubed for Director and Picture im not holding my breath for watchmen but the hey the head guy of the academey is steping down so maybe this can help bring a diffrent aproach to what movies are nominated

Oh yeah, if Dark Knight didn't make an impact on the award scene, I doubt Watchmen will no matter how good it turns out.  I'm just saying I expected to see at least a few seconds of it in the preview roll they showed during the credits... they were showing what looked like lame action movies and stupid pointless comedies as it stands, so it's not like they were sticking to potential Oscar winners anyway.

Then again, maybe it's better Watchmen wasn't lumped in with some of what they did include hehe

The academey awards are lame.  If a movie isnt about some Mentaly Handicap person or impoverished person coming up from being poor then its usually not gonna get an award or even mentioned.  I was glad they had Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder up there. If Ledger wasnt up for an award I still doubt Downey would have won.  Comedy gets no resepect in the awards.  Its a known fact that comedy is just as hard to do as drama.  Why is it only the drama awards?

Come on who doesnt laugh at Dumb and Dumber.

Actually Slumdog Millionaire won 8 awards.

I'm glad I got all the right choices for my Oscar Contest at work SMILEY  though I was worried about the Best Actor and Actress until it was announced.

Slumdog Millionaire was very well deserved IMO.  It had lieterally everything you could want in a movie.  Very exhilirating.  And, it wasn't one of those "stuffy" Academy-type movies that have won in the past.

I think the times they are a-changing as  the academy gets older and more younger people get into the Academy (they're the ones who vote, after all).

I think it's great that Danny Boyle got the nomination.  I've always been a big fan of his.  And get this...this was the guy who came on the scene with Trainspotting.  To see him and David Fincher (director of Seven and Fight Club)...."Edgy" independent directors in the '90's...get director nominations...and for Boyle to win it...represends a not insignificant if subtle sea-change that bodes well for the future.

And as to your point about comedies, I think the Golden Globes have the right Idea.  they separate Dramas and Comdies or Musicals into two separate catagories.  Comedies alwayd get short shrif.  Probably my favorite comdey of the year was "In Bruges" with Colin Farrell, Paul Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes.  That won the Globes and I'm sad to see it didn't win anything at the Oscars because it was pushed aside by dramas.

Seven Fight Club The Game(very under rated Fincher flick)Trainspotting were all great movies though. Sea of change coming? Doubtful.  They are not really all that edgy.  The scott brothers cameron lucas coppalla kuburick were all considered  edgy.

Thats just my 2 cents though.

If Tom Hanks starred in a movie as a half African American half Jewish American Semi-Mentaly Handicap Midget Homosexual with AIDs Cancer and Lupis  living in the Ghettos of Rio and his rise to uppermiddle class before his death they (academy) would probably explode and give him all the oscars even though he wasnt nominatted for any of the other catergories his costar could be a Dog,Pig, or Monkey as well. As long as its the saddest story every written.

Nothing wrong with tom hanks though he is a great actor.

#36300546617 02/23/2009 16:55:39 Re:81st Academy Awards

Comedy and Drama are 2 completely seperate beasts and the Academy only cares about one of them.  I don't see that changing, even with a new president.  Someone just needs to come up with the Academy of Dramatic Comedy with a completely new award show if the comedies are going to get any respect.

It's sad but true.

I agree with you even in 2004 When The Producers came out it was imo the best movie that year even though crash was great i thought the Producers was beter overall wich won best musical/comedy  i do belive the oscars should add that category as well some time down the line.

Producers(2004) is a remake of a remake.  So I dont think it should be up there with the "best"

Theres been a few comedic winners in the past and other odd spot nominees I.E. Sigouney weaver for aliens and Johnny Depp for Captain Sparrow. but did they win? Not a chance in Hell Yea they shoud split it up though.  T

Slumdog millionaire was the best picture of the year, period.
