...You actually had them out to begin with?
This is the part where the hopes and excessively raised expectations begin falling down.
And I sit back and have quite a good chuckle over it all.

Nah, I just wanted to pull a Darminian-style "First."

You know, I don't get you. You complain about people not thinking positively, but when they do, you laugh when their hopes are not met. You are an odd little rodent.
That said, and get ready to chuckle Zippy...
...what a crock of turdbiscuits.

...To be perfectly honest with you? I'm not so sure that wasn't the intention to begin with. Personally, I'm a little appalled at the ego involved with naming the collector what he did. It seems to speak for itself, and it gives a lot of insight as to his mindset on his way out the door.
The question now is how many people will continue to defend him, blissfully unaware that he flipped them the proverbial bird, as he left.

This did actually make me lol. There's a difference between thinking positively and dreaming past realisticalness.

The Omega, i.e., the End? As in, the end of his tenure here? Or were you thinking that he was thinking "I am Alpha and Omega, I was god of this place for a long while, bwahahaha?"
I would think it was the first one, but that's just me.

Expect the worst, hope for the best. Nothing wrong with that.
nvm, I got it.

I can't see the images (as explained in the update discussion thread), I take it he named it something along the lines of 'Rarebit' or something?
He named it "The Omega".

The name of the collector is The Omega. He's dressed like an agent, as far as I can tell.
Not to keep any hopes up, but is there and Alpha collector anywhere?

No harm in checking, I suppose.
But again... I'm not expecting anything.

To be fair, Phrack, based on your attitude towards Rarebit all these years, you would think that. Heh heh heh.

If that were true, then I'd be a lil miffed.

Wild goose chase.
So what exactly were the few little secrets then, them shirts? lol
I'm just glad only a few were around me when I saw that this morning in vector....
If I wanted to have my same gear turn a different color and be "surprised" I would throw a pink shirt in my white laundry....
Rare even said don't get mad at me for what you see, at the going away party. He's done alot for the game and was a good community player. I don't think he named it "The Omega" for saying in other words "Flipping the bird". Maybe it's a hint towards the end of the game or the end of his time here. According to the way things are going and said. The collector has nothing to do with the end of MxO. Just a small gesture of thank you to us. Nothing big.
Too much hype went into this because we all want an epic update but the truth is...there will never ever be one. Game has been out a long time. Combat system changed within the first year which btw....was way too early. Now we are stuck with this unliked combat system. Story is becoming dull eventhough it was mean't for a new start(killing off most characters) from ground up. No more events or special appearances. SOE couldn't patch this problem up by the looks of things.
Players is makes the game enjoyable. It's all what we have now.
9 weeks wait and the final mxo update is sadly lacking in content you'd think after 9 weeks of no update we would of had something awsome if i was rarebit id have at least of liked to go out with a bang but guess not. Now awaiting for the message from walrus informing us of the future of the game.

I'd say that the surprises may have more to do with trade-in text than items.

Nope. All trade in text is the same. Even with the Guardian Vest.

Obviously, yes, but that's not what i'm getting at. I just found it strange
EVERYONE NEEDS TO CALM THE FRACK DOWN
This community is the biggest group of whiners I've ever seen. SPILT MILK MUCH?
If I'm not mistaken, he didn't say there were BIG surprises in store. So you didn't get what you were expecting, big fracking deal. Now that Rarebit's gone, I don't think anyone can expect this game to get "better" so if it's not to your liking now, I suggest you leave with your dignity intact.
JESUS H CHRIST

Because you miss the old MxO?
They could just end the game at the 5th anni celebration and leave it at that. I'd be content with it.
Cerv rage rampage....grr.
Sorry for the edit...thread is getting packed
Pacman is still fun till this day. I have it on my cellphone
Well when you take a step back and look at it, we could have gotten the Vista fixes and the RSI captures and that's it. At the very least people who've wanted a white area k or black headgear for ages can now get them. Anything other then that, no matter how small, boring, not worth it or seemingly insignificant to some people is simply an added extra.
It wasn't an epic update neither was it a great update (unless you were inflicted by the Vista issues or a Zionite inflicted by Agents) and I'm not trying to say it is, but it was never alluded to be a great update anyway. Shame about the Ad space for rent signs still being around though.
What were people expecting, seriously?
Me? I like the items. They're a nice little addition and the collector, his name, and text, are all very fitting.
Now we wait to see what the Walrus has to say about the future of development.
Edit: Oh yeah, and fix the ad space for rent thing.

Fixed.
The new items were part of Rare's vet rewards idea from what he said at the farewell party. He decided in the end (in addition to his departure no doubt) to release them to the whole community.
While I am disappointed, I'm working on the new clothes. I was expecting more, but what can you do?

I guess in the end we shouldn't have expected much from someone who never gave us much.

Wrong on both counts. Named after the Treehouse of Horror segment "The Homega Man."

You know its funny. First when Rarebit leaves everyone gushes all over him like he was some kind of perfect saint.
Now watch, as old resentments come out he'll be demonized (truth be told he warrants some of it.....I saw this coming to a bad end months ago).
The truth is, he did some great things for the game, and did some really sh1tty things for the game. And Oh Ho I can really let myself get carried away with the latter if I let myself, but I won't. Whats the point?
Like most people, did some brilliant things, did some boneheaded things.
As they say, "It is what it is."

I didn't.
I said goodbye. Goodbye is neither positive nor negative in nature, so yeah.
But yeah, I agree with you... *shrug*
I love the update thanks rarebit.

So...SOE, it's okay for us to have a collector standing around in game that's named after GOD but I get reported for having my character named YAHWEH? Seriously? This is a huge slap in the face after everything I've fought for.
SOE, I'm out. Good riddance.

"Omega" is the last letter in the Greek alphabet.
"Archival Science in a Post-War Simulation".
-
"Logging Tips for New People and Veterans Alike".
-
"Submit Your Logs".

Right you are! Give that man a cookie for bringing in some truth!

Emphasis by Rarebit.
Just what in Christ's name were you people expecting? Rarebit has quit his job. He didn't have to do anything, so you should be grateful for anything extra he added to this update.
I just got pwned by pacman(atleast, I think I did). Your picture is too fooking big. Dang dude....
And....Othinn, your one heck of a genius. I did not know Omega was the last letter of the greek alphabet. Considering that is what GOD is!!!
I seriously doubt Rare was trying to signify anything related to God.
Smith: "I am the Alpha of your Omega. I am the beginning of your end."

To be honest I never even acknowleged that he left, but it doesn't matter.

I thought that was implied.
My bad.
I wasn't trying to say that Smith is "The Omega" up there on that building, I was just...
Oh forget it.
Buy your own *dang* fries.
What a mess.
I just hope the 5th anniversary will be the end. Give smithlings an insta-meatwad ability and make the skies red. <_<

Hmmm no stay puffed marshmallow man anyways.
The community makes the game, the devs can only work with the resources alloted, the resources alloted are goverened by the number of subscribers QED!
I havent been impressed with any MxO content since PB and the story imo has been a series of missed oppertunities and irrelevent blind alleys....but it was carried forward with a dedication and energy that belies the funding the game is likely generating or being paid to any one person, I think that was Rare's real contribution and it is worth celebrating even for those of us unable to stomach the missed potential here......on my travels I have tried many games, the community here is so much better than anything else you come accross and I think there is a direct connection that should not be underestimated.
He should have let the Area K and Headgear be the secret items, then everyone would be pretty happy right now like we were when we first found out about them. He spent his last few weeks here working on the Vista fixes and that took up the majority of his time. IMO Vista bugs are more important to fix than giving us yet another new clothing item.
The Omega means The End. This is the last Collector, the last patch, the last last of the last. The End. Also, he looks to me like an Oligarch in an Agent Suit.
Anyway, Rarebit could have easily had a big ego since he could do anything he wanted with this game, but he didn't. He had to put up with a lot of bs and was pretty cranky for the last year and thats probably part of why he left. I can promise you he didn't name that collector in reference to himself. He is a good person and wouldn't promote himself up like that. Anyone that met him at fanfaire would agree with me.

What people are in person and what they are on the internet are two very different things.
I can agree with that statement but it doesn't apply to Rarebit.
