Now that Rarebit has left us mottley crew.

What do you guys think will happen to us here at MxO?

Is this really the 'Final nail in the coffin?'

Are we ever getting this intern we worried about?

Is MXO Going to be Free?

Are we merging?

Are we going to log on one day to find the message! ''Sorry you wasted your time MXO is gone!'' lol

Oh my god.....

I dont wanna die!!!!!!!!

Sadly, I can only see the end.

Still, we can hope SOE keep us on literal life support, just for nostalgia.

I for one would prefer it if SOE stood up and actually told us if hes going to be replaced or not and whats going on for the future of this game even if it is dead.

MxO is part of station pass, SOE is not going to get rid of us. Maybe they'll promote Virrago.

Maybe they'll hire someone else.

#36300540013 02/02/2009 15:47:39 Re:What's Next for MxO?

I think it is safe to assume that MXO is screwed. But hopefully someone will step up to the task and keep the game up and running.

#36300540014 02/02/2009 15:47:54 Re:What's Next for MxO?

I can see nothing positive about Rarebit's leaving, not for this game. Obviously, for him, it could be a breath of fresh air. But I figured this would be coming, I just expected later rather than sooner.

Whether or not MxO dies is another matter. Physically it will probably remain; SOE still has Planetside running, we'll be OK. But inside, it might just end up a husk before long.

#36300540016 02/02/2009 15:48:53 Re:What's Next for MxO?

Yeah he has been popping up alot ingame? Is he getting the feel for it?

Can he recycle like a god?

I think a compulsory present for all subscribers would be cool like the awakened glasses could be a new texture like a ULTRA sharp and bright texture called ''Rarebit's Glasses'' or ''Rarebit's Coat''

Ahhh thinking aloud here just think we need something to mark the date and the event.

After all who doesnt want the awakened shades and the jacket.... Some ppl coz they arent stupid enough to recylce the frag...... *kicks himself*

Darn straight. I'd like to hear some words from the man himself and what the plans are for MxO.

You know.. as much as I love MxO, I can't see me continuing on playing. The main draw for me was the story, even the reduced amount was still keeping me subbed. Now, if I'm honest.. with the loss of the only guy remaining who gave the game some substance, it's simply a waiting game for SGW or STO or something.

But hey, while Ben's leaving is sad news, I have a baby daughter on the way so my days of spending as much time in an MMO were coming to an end anyway.

I'll be sticking around yet to see exactly what happens, but yeah the Sun is finally setting on the MxO era.

#36300540084 02/02/2009 16:32:25 Re:What's Next for MxO?

What's next? Hmm, let's view this from the neutral, aka obvious view.

Update's still coming out. Wouldn't update a game planned for cancellation.

While Rarebit was probably the biggest cog in the MxO Dev machine, he definitely was not the only one, although judging from a severe lack of communication, it's hard to tell if 9mmfu isn't just extremely busy now that his workload is that much greater or if he's also quit. Either way, somebody has to run the show... right? Might be a low-paid intern hired on just to handle basic grunt work of updating mission content. Could be nobody, and this last update will be The last update, after which corporate bigwigs will wait for the community to slowly die out due to lack of anything before they can safely pull the plug.

Rarebit's depature, while sad, was foreseeable (and extremely obviously going to happen), and whatever plans he's left behind are sure to be followed, and when those are run out, we'll all see what we'll do then. We move on, like always.

#36300540086 02/02/2009 16:34:20 Re:What's Next for MxO?

To be honest, I don't see why the game can't continue. Merge the servers. Hire an intern to do the occasional retexture and unrelated side story quest ala normal MMOs, leave a community rep to pimp player run events and storylines and there ya, Free to Play Legacy title in the bag SMILEY

#36300540106 02/02/2009 16:50:25 Re:What's Next for MxO?

I can see MxO continuing with a part time dev providing the small fixes for stuff, but with Rarebit intending on leaving us the planned story of how it was supposed to wrap up I don't think I can trust anyone except possibly someone with a burning, in depth understanding of the Matrix, to make even unrelated quests let alone continue the story.

At the moment all I can see, with a heavy heart, is PvP and player RP and while these 'secret' items Rarebit mentioned may allow for RP to flourish again for a while, the lack of official story isn't likely to keep people subscribed in the long run and as the population slowly decreases so will the RP and eventually the PvP too.

Being free to play may extend MxO's life a bit longer, but nothing lasts forever.

As I said, I'll be keeping my eye on MxO, I really do hope it continues and doesn't stagnate.

Well it looks like I quit the game at the right time...I even said that this new update would be the make or break it point of MxO.

This does suck, but you never know things might not be over. I plan to stay on this game untill the game itself no longer is capeable of running.

#36300540253 02/02/2009 18:42:55 Re:What's Next for MxO?

MxO isn't going to get shut down, it'll just be an empty shell of a game basically is what it seems like.  Who knows, they might still do little updates here and there.  But no, MxO isn't going anywhere.

I believe on what Tenshi said here. Why shut down something that still pay's for the coffee at SOE?

I'm sorely tempted to do exactly this. Not yet, obviously, as the game's still going, but if it ever does get shut down (or there's some other cataclysmic event like the forums being wiped), I'll be sure to capture as much as I can and put it somewhere.

And I can guarantee it'd stay online for as long as I have a few pounds in my pocket and the Web still exists. SMILEY I won't close it down like some people would when the interest runs out.

Nah... Rarebit might be going but I'm sure you'll see someone else pop up... probably with a name like "Cheese Toast".

Or am I too used to the ressurected character syndrome that the story seems to persistantly return to?
