...for quitting. :/
Anyway I've been putting off reading through this thread and posting a proper reply because...well because it isn't going to be easy. But I'm going to try to get that done today.
Sorry about that Rare... my bad... I wrote up the story for Massively.com. Just thought you deserved a proper send off, especially after all the work you did for this game.
I resubscribed not because I want to actually get back in and play (though I probably will now that I paid 15 dollars) but because I wanted to personally thank you. You worked your rear off, and I think it's quite clear after 21 pages that we all really appreciated it, even when we butted heads and even after we parted ways.
My time spent in Matrix is still one of the best times I've ever had in an online game, and that's never going to change. Some of the others on Massively's staff still question the stories I tell about this game, and wonder if they're real, and I have to keep reminding them that they all are. When you can get a whole body of MMO industry nuts to gasp in awe when you tell a story about a game everyone thought sucked... you must have been doing something right.
Thank you, and good luck with everything you do. You will be missed.
Sincerely,
Colin Seraphina Brennan

What can be said that hasn't been already.
The heart of the Matrix Online has ceased beating. The machines might keep it alive for a while but it's soul will be gone from it with your passing.
Rarebit, you've been an inspiration to this game and this community in so many ways. If there was ever someone who never failed to go far beyond that extra mile, it was you. I have always appreciated the creativity and the artistry you applied to everything you were involved in here.. from your artwork on the forums, to the engaging personalities you created for the almost countless characters you've played. To say your presence here will be sorely missed would be a phenomonal understatement.
I hope whatever is coming up in your future is as inspiring for you, as you have been for MxO and for everyone here.
Cheers to you!

I'll say it again cause it can't be said enough; Thank you^100

Thank you Rare, so much, i've said it plenty of times in this thread and i'll say it again
I suppose now this is the day you leave it's all fully hit us, and no matter who they replace you with (If they even will) they won't have the same amount of heart, soul or effort that you poured into this game, you'll always be remembered in this community for your doings.
Thank you again.
It's hard to think of what to say. I'm glad I didn't try reading this thread in the office; I'd have had to keep telling people passing by my cubicle that I had something in my eye.
I was asked in the game this evening if I expected all the people who re-subbed in the past few weeks to have come back like they have, and I really didn't. I fully expected this thread to devolve into flaming almost immediately and get locked. It just goes to show that even after years of eavesdropping on private channels and pouring through server chat logs, there are still a lot of things I have to learn about people.
I'd like to thank all the people who took the time to write. I'm especially awed by the posts here and there from people who've been here all along in the game, but haven't really visited the forums; those posts are somehow the most heartwrenching, I'm not sure why.
I'm glad you all have enjoyed the game one way or another. I hope that some of you who came back to say hello will stick around a bit. There are folks here who have missed you.
Ahh I was about to insert a Morpheus quote there but it would've sounded corny.
There may not be a Matrix here in this crazy world of ours--yet--that we know of--...--but we do have this big Internet thing where we're all only a few milliseconds apart. If you keep pressing enough buttons you never know what kind of hole you might end up tumbling down.
Oops, one got out, in a mangled sort of way.
Take care, guys.

Stay in touch, please.

So SOE is a cubicle company *shudders*. Maybe you need a package with an old Nokia in it to get out through the roof.
Thank you, Rarebit. I wanted to give something to ya which didn't sound corny or overused, so all I can say is that you may be leaving the office, but you can never leave what you left behind. It will follow you so long as those who remember you can find you.
Keep in touch, we're just a jack-in away. And eavesdropping on private channels, hopefully your eyes didn't bleed too badly.
And on a separate note- the archivist, Virrago?
bleh, so much for mah smexy self-image
I hope you made it to your party, I had to leave early to attend evening class (it's only once a week, or I could have skipped).
Maybe only the Matrix can make you ask yourself, as you look out the window into the rain, if that's your face looking back at you or the glass just feels like showing you it's impression of what you look like.
Peace

By the way, my son just told me that Blizzard is working on a "next-gen MMO"... I'm sure they could use someone who brings multitasking to an Olympic level....

The irony is that the Internet is our Matrix, a world which we plug into and have our own reality.
Again, you'll be missed Rarebit, unlike any other MMO you've reached out to the community and got emotional involvement from them on what you did, for good and bad. I hope you enjoy whatever you move onto next and best of luck with that as well.
Take care and hopefully we cross roads again someday.

Wow this message is just as stunning as the first message you made to start of this thread. And yeah Aqua is right, the internet is kind of like our very own Matrix. And yes, people definately will always surprise, that is what makes this world of our so interesting and fun to live in.
So farewell Rarebit, take care and keep in touch *hugs*
.
Also found this video on youtube, since this program kind of reminded me of the Matrix
I'm another one of those that resubbed to say goodbye, but maybe I'll stay awhile! You put in hours and effort for us that were never required, and kept the game afloat. Thank you so much for your hard work over the years. Good luck accompany wherever you go, and don't be a stranger!
and now its THAT day.
Again - TY
Take it easy, Rarebit. Don't be a stranger.
You spent roughly 15-20 days of my life and for once I don't want it back. Enjoy what's coming to you. You've earned your rest.
Adios, amigo. Don't be afraid to keep in touch.
/salute
Siyanara Rarebit. Good luck and enjoy your future. Stay in touch and give a shout if you ever need anything.
Again it has been a pleasure.

Take care Rare!Don't forget the community..
In case I or anyone else hasn't said it yet (yeah, my memory is that bad)...
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Thank you for all of your hard work, Rarebit. You made this game an awesome place to play in. The dedication and over-time you have put in to this game is amazing. Your live events were awesome, and the way you balanced everything on your plate was pretty much super human. It feels really weird knowing that you're not going to be here any more.. Because through thick and thin, I knew that we had a good guy at the helm. The Matrix Online will never be the same place without you. Thanks for all the amazingly great times! Good luck in all your future endeavors!
I'll see you on the other side of the looking glass.
- Mercio
Now that it's actually sinking in that you're leaving, I keep typing stuff, but it just isn't happening. Eh... this game holds a special place in my heart, and a lot of the joy that came from it would not have been possible were it not for you, Rare. We were blessed to have you around. The future after this may be uncertain, but I'm sure it'll be okay for you and all of us.
Hm, mid-post pick me up.
Anyways, thanks again, and good luck with the new plans. You're a creative guy, and if all the cinematics, graphics, scripts, interactions and whatnot you've managed over the years are any indication, surely they'll be cool whatever they are. We'll see you around. (Psst, at least _consider_ coming to FanFaire 09?
)
...So now it's the whole internet instead of a few regionservers... time to find... a star?!

I see Rarebit in the online users list, 9mm and Dracomet not throwing an office party for you?
A great sadness about something good ending before its time.
You'll be back.
When I first heard the news I was angry now that I've had some time for it to settle in or as Rarebit says "digested and thoroughly chewed over" (lol) I've come to the conclusion that I am thankful for the time we had. these are good memories of events over the past few years and i'm glad I was able to be part of that so on that note, thankx Rarebit for all you done for the community and I wish you the best on your new career or whatever it is you plan to do to make money in this bad economy. See you on the other side of the looking glass...
First and last post.
Thanks for the memories Rarebit. I been here four years on average and every live event and content update with you behind the wheel has been top notch.
Good luck to you in your future personal and professional projects.
Thanks.
Diste.
Farewell, Rarebit.
I think more then one person got something in *their* eyes when they read your post.
I think it is safe to say that a lot of us feel like we are losing a personal friend today. MXO has always had a close knit community, so I do not think that is too far from the truth. Take care of yourself.
Thanks for the memories, Rarebit.

Good luck in your future endeavors.
May Neo the W brothers watch over you.
Thank you for a very good time!
Ich wünsche Dir ein glückliches Leben.

The only man worth stopping by to say goodbye.
Rarebit had issues with me (as did many) and fair enough, yet truely a great developer who will be missed by all those who ever were touched by his brilliance while he worked and lived this game.
Take care.
This is probally the only MMO ive really ever played i casually play wow and did a month of FFXI but for some reason this game is my favorite MMO i dunno if its cause im used to the small comunity or what but anyway i do think Rare you are one of the best things that Made MXO Great especailly Since the move to SOE. The Live events were Great especailly got better when i got my Second 50 on recursion. ill miss the Speculation of the mission title threads the Assorted Dev shots Live events i hope you do good in what ever you do next thanks for making these last few years a great one
Take Care Rare
/tiphat
Just resubed and wanted to put my personal opinion on this.
In a way it's awesome, it kind of puts mxo where it truley is instead of the stupid updates and us kinding ourselves.
Thanks for all your hardwork Rare, even if at times I have disagreed with the direction you took the game you did put effort into it.
Heres to the future and what ever it may bring
I just hope Rarebit will check the forums within the near future. I have one last thing I must do here as well.
Stay in touch Rarebit!

Rarebit's going to be sorely missed by us all here in Seattle and by the MxO community, in particular. Of course, I'll probably miss him most, as I always knew things were in good hands with Rarebit minding the store.
pdate 66 is just around the corner and Rarebit's posted logs of the storyline he's been keeper of. Like he said: The story is in the players' hands now more than ever.
This is the second time I have seen this. Neither time was it clear. Neither time was it comforting. Neither time did it inspire confidence. Sure hoping there will be clarity at some point.

I wont even pretend to know what they mean by it. I just know that there is no longer an Offical story writer (until SOE gets us a new one) and that we the player base are left to make our own stories, whether its considered matrix cannon or not its up to us I guess.
Have a good one Rarebit. Good Luck to you.
But, I still want my Verdigris Shirt.

..............like a supermassive black hole?? <_<
Take it easy Rare, this is a sad day for all of us and you'll be sorely missed. Once again, I echo everyone else in thanking you for your time and passionate input in this game, you're responsible for making it what we've all come to love.
All the best, and I hope we run into you another day...
Rarebit,
You've given many people some of the best MMO experience we've ever had. A lot of us made friends, and enemies. We all have fond memories of MxO: the good, bad, and the lolworthy. And in the end, we all truly did have fun and that's all thanks to you.
And also, this:

You wouldn't happen to have read a certain conversation with me and Chloe about turtles and bamboo, did you?

Like that one time myself and Asamodai helped Niobe, and Asa talked about taking Niobe out for drinks, yet I get a email from Niobe saying "And no, we will not go out for drinks" XD

Good mood right there.
See on the other side of the rabbit hole, Rare.
Hmmm. I wonder if Rarebit eavedropped on us taking bets on how late he would be to the LE?
