Well, he technically has a point, but it certainly doesn't play out that way in the game. Besides, with the restrictions we have with MxO, the bending of such rules becomes necessary; even amongst the best of us that roleplay.

There's a series of hacker abilities called "Logic Cannon," and the nickname for the Cramer-Seavy Heavy Shotgun is "Cramer's Cannon." I think that's about it as far as cannons go in the Matrix. There are probably more in the Real. SMILEY

lol.

This has always been an argument.  However, the biggest flaw in "It cant happen" is that "The mind makes it real".  Also, somewhere I saw something about RSI's being used to manipulate the subject for medical reasons.  If that is true, then that blows MxO cannon out of the water IMO.

What would happen to someone if their RSI was 'turned' or 'infected' or w/e by a blood drinker in the real?

Their mind in the Simulation would say that sustenance could be supplied by blood, in the simulation their RSI could be significantly changed to allow for intake of 'blood' but in the real, they have no such changes and despite what the mind thinks, their body will not be able to be sustained on blood alone so unless they also eat regular food (So it depends on the RP and how much of a blood drinker they 'turn' into).

I would say that as long as the RP takes into account the body of the person in the real and maintains a realistic POV of that body (The mind cannot change the anotomy of the body but can influence the chemistry of the body ie. produce increased adrenilin which would improve strength and speed etc. temporarily and at a cost, due to it still being a human body) moreso for Redpills than Blue (although it's possible that the Machines have detection and possibly protection capabilities in case a Bluepill gets 'infected' by Lupine/Blood Drinker code) then it would be possible for RP to delve into the realms of Vampire/Werewolf storyline whilst still being pretty close to Matrix canon.

Actually, there's an argument against this. I'm sure the blood drinker "virus" or program would affect bluepills, but the hard-wiring that exists with them is non-existent with redpills. This is part of why an Agent's code isn't able to inhabit redpills(despite some people's RP. ) Also, take into account that exiles aren't evolved from machines in ability to manipulate redpills(Smith excluded of course,) just defined as "obselete". For instance, Cain, Abel, and co. are suggested to be lupines in Enter the Matrix. They are more of less the same as those we see today. But even after fighting them(stop me if I'm inaccurate as I haven't played in a while,) there isn't any suggestion that it is possible to be infected or controlled by them - they're just harder to kill. I think this is the reason the Wachowskis designed the game for us to play as redpill humans exclusively, without the traits of blood drinkers, lupines, and exiles of that sort.

Granted, some brilliant RP'ers have written stories where infection is a very real and plausible phenomenon, but many here have taken some of these as canon; the same way some people (at least on Syntax) started to believe that redpills operatives were able to be reinsterted just by taking blue pills and such. Sure, there's no canon rule stating that something like this can't happen, but there isn't really anything more than player RP and speculation that suggests that it can.

Indeed, the Agents used a program of sorts to get into Morpheus' mind, but the effect of which was very brief - he seemed free of the symptoms right as Neo busted him out. It's the same as getting shot with a bullet in the Matrix and taking the ensuing damage, but that also seems to be temporary in non-terminal cases(Hell, that's even thrown out at this point too. SMILEY). But still, there's no evidence to suggest that exiles are capable of the same thing with seemingly permanent effects. Infection is a theory, an interesting and understandable one, but still a theory. And as mentioned, there's no intended provision in the design of the game to support the psycho-somatic changes that would go along with infection.

But!!

As mentioned before, given the limitations of the game as-is, there certainly is need for the presence of player-created exiles to keep things moving. So there is a lot of room for leverage in terms of canonical story progression at a player level. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against players that operate this way, and I'll even entertain it if I have a part in the roleplay.

With that in mind, could a virus infect an RSI and eventually someone's mind to believe they require blood or dog food in the Real?  It's very possible.  For a redpill, their mind is practically an open port and we know it's possible to overwrite a mind (Thanks to Smith).

It's even possible that an RSI could become stronger or more invulnerable as their corrupted mind weaves a belief system that they are now more than human and even only killable by silver or stakes.  In the world of the Matrix, anything is possible.  We shouldn't be so quick to dismiss player RP in a place where dreams come true.

This aspect of manipulation is in fact in the mechanics of the game, as viral attacks and patcher code are able to make adjustments to the status of the RSI. I just thought it was necessary to add how this game was designed to utilize us as part of the ongoing story. Are these things possible? There sure is a feasible argument, but I think there were limits to these things in mind when the story progressed from the end of the Trilogy to MxO. Besides, if it was that simple, what's to stop if from becoming an epidemic? Nearly all of us would technically have been "infected" by now. SMILEY

I wouldn't suggest dismissing people's player RP - again, I've taken part in stories I didn't necessarily agree with. I'd hardly run around, telling people what they can't do or say in their stories. But healthy debate and reference are part of constructing and planning realistic roleplay, I think.

Remember, this is the world were anything is possible, but also one where anything can be questioned.

One thing to keep in mind is that not all programs/exiles are blood-drinkers/lupine.  There are many programs, exiled or not, that appear and function just like any human being.

This.
Now, consider that for a moment.

The whole point of the Matrix story line is that it offers a way to explain things that don't fit, but are around.  For example:
The Lupines in Reloaded: They appeared to look like normal human beings, but what made them different was the fact silver is what killed them, and who knows how old they are.

As to an RSI change?  I do not believe that it would make someone "stronger" or "faster".  Someone said "It could effect the chemical balances of the brain".  If taking that into consideration - it could offer heightened senses, increased metabolism (Thus a need for more direct forms of proteins, fats, and fatty acids), increased adrenal function (Heightened aggression, tension, ect ect).  - Come to think of it, we manipulate our bodies in this way today, in reality, with drugs.

So the idea of an RSI being manipulated to manipulate the body has been done.  Cryptos.  Tho my character did this long ago, the theory is still the same.  The mind and the RSI meld, and cause change to both.  Again, if I am wrong on this, please let me know; but I know I saw it somewhere.

As to "The Archtype" exiles.  I've seen it come and go.  They are all the same I agree, much like watching a repeat of Bhram Stolkers... But that is no reason to exclude them from interaction.  I always thought some of the best RP formed out of the most mundane.  Besides, the world of the "Exiled" is still truely unexplored.  We have no clue how far it goes, or how deep in society it has gotten it's fingers.

Same with the idea of bluepills interacting with redpills.  I can't stand how the story line just used bluepills as a form of a catalyst for urging the machists and zionites want to fight.  Isn't it more than that?  With the limitations of the game, we must depend on player RP to offer a deeper reasoning behind this.  We no longer have the original writers to give us guidelines.  Sorry Rarebit, but I just can't agree with some of your story line, as I am sure he disagrees with much I've posted here.  Long to short, if we stick to the "Main" story line given to us now, it's just going to be a cycle of fight, get data, fight, get data, never learning, never understanding (which was the main crux of the entire movie series, understanding).  When the buzzer goes off for the chapter, we put in a new set of laundry (Names) and restart the cycle.

As to your number 3 and 4 "Rules"

3.)  None of that is magic or an element above the natrual.  It's a system being hacked and broken.  With what you say here, it sounds like no hyper jumping either

4.) This sounds like you're ruling out faction leaders, crew leaders, ect ect.  Because those people have the ability to meld and shape the minds of their faction mates; thus adjusting or making "drastic" change to the story line.

As for what one person considers cannon, another considers something else.   But the biggest question is, can we segregate ourselves from each other anymore?

Is the community of RP'rs that big anymore that we can do that?
