Of course they do. The WoW people are very ingenious--they'd have to be, to keep that game going like it does. They like to cover everything and know everything. If a lot of people put down MxO as their reason for leaving WoW, they would go, "Hmm, we should study this MxO to see what they're doing right, and make it our own."
I wouldn't call it ingenious, simply intelligent market information gathering.

I must be one of the few that left WoW to come back here. 
When I unsubscribed before the release of WotLK. I stated I thought it was silly for a game to have "warcraft" in its name without any significant RvR in it and that they should change their game's title to World of Grindcraft.
