Operatives, we have just received this broadcast on a frequently used public channel.

It appears to be a broadcast from the Hovercraft Scanline.  As many of you know, this particular hovercraft is manned by a small group of operatives from different backgrounds who seek to bring secrets of each organization into the open.  Typically Scanline operates in the shadows, sending their pirate broadcasts to specially coded receivers in the Matrix.  However, this broadcast was sent publicly.

Transmission BA52:

For years, we've brought you glimpses of the truth that others would obscure. We've listened in the shadows so that we could tell you their dirty secrets. It was a time of words, not actions.

But now, there's cause for action. When you were a coppertop, were there people you cared about? Friends, family, lovers? What would you have done to protect them? What would you do now?

There is a group of Exile mercenaries that doesn't share your compassion for human life and the sanctity of the bluepill population. In fact, they exploit it. These exiles are con men and assassins; they exploit your past relationships for their own monetary gain. Their redpill victims no doubt pay the sums and keep their mouths shut for fear of retaliation. Or else, their cared ones are murdered on the streets or in their homes by beings they never imagined existed.

Justice is long overdue. Stay tuned, we'll be broadcasting soon...

Exploiting the very humans they rely on for their continued existence? That's like a human poisoning the water supply to spite the cows that supply the milk and meat for their double cheeseburgers.

I think this would be a good area for a list of scanline crew members on each server.  Anyone have the current roster?

#36300534328 01/09/2009 13:33:27 Re: BA52

I did some research:

Scanline crew members:

Syntax
Leton
Daxil
Runtrace
Alethiana

Recursion
Bradyn
Acheronia
Strayshot

Vector
Kaveri

Poor vector SMILEY
I think this is the current list.  Hopfully their crew gets another Vector member.

They don't have anything to do with Scanline.

Cool find Danger_Frog and yeah it's not Scanline it's that guy named Diced's crew - another LESIG storyline.

Strayshot's in Scanline, you know. They have their part to play in the big picture, as do the crew. Diced is fascinated with the Joker. Gaia has her own relevant secrets. Unese was part of United Tomorrow. More like... one large storyline with many intertwined, not discrete, subplots.

With these two things, there's no need for a receiver, or even to bother checking the link for an update. It'll let you know.

That's great for people who don't have a scanline receiver, but I do have one, and I really want to know why I'm not seeing the new image.  I borrowed another receiver from someone who is seeing the new image, and it still showed me the old image, so apparently there's nothing wrong with the item itself.  Which means that there must be some kind of problem with my browser settings or something.  Maybe I need to disable cookies, or delete cookies?  Anybody know?

You had the same issue with Vogt's hovercraft battle images. How'd you fix that?

#36300534833 01/12/2009 06:17:43 Re: BA52

try to open the image from explorer  then reload the page, after that try to use the receiver

#36300534883 01/12/2009 12:37:27 Re: BA52

Try clearing out Internet Explorer's cached data. The in-game UI for things like the Scanline receivers, The Sentinel, and the cinematics is really just running over an IE window.

Actually, that was different.  During the hovercraft battles, I couldn't see any image at all, and I fixed it by disabling my firewall every time I refreshed the page.  With the receiver, I was seeing an image, but it wasn't the current one.

Anyway, I tried SEPET's suggestion, and that worked.  The first time I copied and pasted the link into Internet Explorer, it showed me the old image, but after I clicked on the refresh button, it showed me the new image.  And then when I jacked in and activated the receiver, it also started showing the new image.  Thanks SEPET!  Oh, and Rarebit, I don't suppose you could change the in-game UI so that it uses a Firefox window instead of an IE window, could you?

Also, I can't help but wonder why there are hardly any other people ran into this problem.  Do other people check the link in a browser instead of using the receiver in-game?  Or do people clear out IE's cached data once every day or two?

#36300534987 01/13/2009 04:01:47 Re: BA52

I'm using IE and I've never had such a problem. I don't have the reciever, but all the rest - like The Sentinel - works just fine.

Oh right I forgot, you have to patch it so it'll work.

Download the .xpi from the page. Using WinRAR, extract install.rdf, then open it with Notepad and change the MaxVersion string such that your current version (and future versions) should work. Re-compress it into the original .xpi with WinRAR (drag and drop should do it).

Then, go into about:config for FireFox and make a new boolean called "extensions.checkUpdateSecurity" initialized to false. From there you can install the plugin by "Open File" --> Notify.xpi.

Operatives, we have just received a broadcast similar to the previous one. We believe it to be from the same source.

Tyndall
Mission Control
Zion Command

--------------------------------

Eris is possibly the most dangerous of these mercenaries. She is a ruthless and cunning program from a past cycle of the simulation. We can only speculate what her former function might have been in the Matrix. Eris is the muscle of their mercenary operation. Not much more than teeth and guns, she relies on a secretary named Unese to keep the details straight. While Eris might be difficult to track down on your own, Unese probably will know where she is. Make friends with Unese and see if you can get Eris' location out of her. You can probably find Unese in a private club or bar. She values professional attitude and attire and you could probably befriend her if you imply there may be potential business options in the future. Once you've made contact, you can try to determine the location of Eris.  But keep in mind that she is very loyal and will not be easily persuaded to betray her bosses.

Once you have obtained Eris' location, go there and prevent her from ever harming another innocent bluepill again. But be careful, she won't respond well to persuasion. You may have to resort to more forceful methods.
