Factions - are they gone?

#36300533154 01/03/2009 16:15:35 Factions - are they gone?

I just want to make a discussion about how factions are doing today. One reason is, I've seen many of my own faction mates leave and other friends to from there factions/crews. How "big" are the factions today? I mean, before we had factions with at least 20-30 active members or more. Not sure how many there are of them left today.

I just want to post my concern on this matter, as I see more and more leaving the game for the reasons we all have heard and discussed before (and still do). Looking at the population on Syntax as a example, I believe most zion's/epn, machines and mervs could form one faction each from the three organizations. This is bad. I could be wrong in the numbers of the population, but when you log in, you really don't see any of the huge factions around, you see 5 people max.

Looking at the next Live Event whenever it comes, I think most of the players will use there alt's to be a part of it. That also means in my opinion, that the organizations is loosing there real background of why you should be a Machine, Merovingian or a Zion or does that not concern you?

So here is what I want to ask;

  • What is you'r current situation of your faction?
  • Have you merged with another faction?
  • Did your faction disband in the past 2 month?
  • What the status on your server with factions?

My faction is pretty much a 2-4 man faction now. Don't plan on merging, don't plan on disabandoning though Lt0Brien is still recruiting for us.

#36300533158 01/03/2009 16:23:06 Re:Factions - are they gone?

Winter Brood is still going, although we're down to just a small handfull playing (depends on what time of year and what is happening inside), I would say anywhere from 4 to 8 of us regularly, up to 15 occasionally.  We're still here, been a faction since before Beta, and will probably still be here when the Matrix shuts down.

If every member from the Brood was to come back, umm, there would be over 150, if that tells you anything.  Alot of us have moved to other games, or Real Life has come to bite us in the butt.

The Brood is on Syntax as well, where the server population flexes alot, but we've been getting some new players as well (alot has to do with RejectKnowledge recruiting, and a strong backbone within the faction to act as a family)

As for the question of if we have disbanded, We did disband for a whole 2 minutes one night, just to fix issues within the ranks.

We did absorb a faction a couple of years ago, but we didn't get many members from it, and none of them are active anymore.

Does this say anything about the way things are going for the Brood?

#36300533159 01/03/2009 16:29:51 Re:Factions - are they gone?

Good questions.  I've seen many of the same things.

  • What is you'r current situation of your faction?
It certainly could be bigger, but we've actually picked up handful of new recruits lately.  At our faction's population peak(s), we'd have maybe 13 to 15 members online fairly regularly.  Right now, unless there's an event or something else going on there's usually only a few of us around but I'd say we hit about 10 max at any given time.  If all our active members were on at once though we'd still be pretty sizable.
  • Have you merged with another faction?
Not any time recently.  We've been around for quite a while now and our opinions and methods are rather distinct, so I can't see this happening in the near future.
  • Did your faction disband in the past 2 month?
Nope. The only time we ever disbanded was way way back when to solve an issue with an absentee rank 1 captain.
  • What the status on your server with factions?
I'm on Syntax as well, and I've noticed much of the same, though it has taken a turn for the better lately.  Less factions, more names staying with the same faction for more than a few days, etc.

#36300533160 01/03/2009 16:30:09 Re:Factions - are they gone?

Personally I prefer being part of smaller factions, but I understand the point being made. When an entire org on a server is as big as one of the factions that were around in the past it isn't a great sign.

#36300533162 01/03/2009 16:49:54 Re:Factions - are they gone?

Our distrust is very expensive.

#36300533191 01/03/2009 23:28:45 Re:Factions - are they gone?

  • What is you'r current situation of your faction?
Wow.  Just did a count of people that are active in The Trust, and we have about 25 members that jack in on a regular basis.  Granted, we're never all on at the same time.  I'd say at any given moment, we have about 4-10 members online.  We've been getting some new blood into the faction lately, mostly brand new players to the game.  Most of our time is spent helping our newer 50s get equipped, doing the new content, helping level our lower level members, and most importantly...  playing out major RP stories and running in-faction events.
  • Have you merged with another faction?
We haven't merged with anybody.  The Devoted disbanded and formed a crew, then Deffdog and his guys joined as one crew.
  • Did your faction disband in the past 2 month?
Nope.  We've been doing well.  We're one of the only heavy RP Zion factions on Recursion.
  • What the status on your server with factions?
It seems like there's just a few large factions, and then a smattering of smaller factions.  Zion has the most, there are only three Merv factions I can think of (including Exemplar Triune), and only two Machine factions (Unleashed and Exemplar Triune's Machine faction).  Population has seemed to have increased in the past month, though...  at least, I'm running into a lot of new players.

#36300533195 01/03/2009 23:46:26 Re:Factions - are they gone?

  • What is you'r current situation of your faction?

We're a bit on the small side, but we have about ten people who jack in on a regular to semi-regular basis. I'd like to recruite a few more people, but since we're an RP faction, good Merv RPers are hard to come by, plus we have fairly strong standards of conduct.
  • Have you merged with another faction?

Nope, not yet. There's one small one I've been wanting to have merge with us, but since they run things differently than we do, it wouldn't work well.

  • Did your faction disband in the past 2 month?

Not in the past two months, though we did have to disband and regroup when the "mutiny bug" hit our then-leader's ship about six or seven months ago, but I don't think that counts

  • What the status on your server with factions?

I'd put us as one of the smaller factions, but we kind of like it that way: it gives you a more intimate, homey feeling, more of a sense of family, and that's what we're all about.

#36300533198 01/04/2009 00:26:30 Re:Factions - are they gone?

The Daniel Institute of Dream Interpretation has always been small. When we formed it, we basically wanted a full mission team. We have 4 active members and hook up with Pluribus Neo a lot. No disbansion in sight. We won't merge with any other factions in the forseable future. We're pretty selective.

As far as Recursion as a whole, I think we all know each other pretty well. I used to avoid Mara C like the plague, now it's a meeting spot to hook up with all orgs for quests.

  • What is your current situation of your faction?

Priorato de Sión has had a few members, I believe you guys know why. We are here to help people who speak spanish and that's a minority, since english is not our mother tonge we have some trouble following the story and chilling with the rest of the factions without get discriminated. Still we are fine with the current 7 or 8 PDS. We're always ready to fight and help the hispanic newbies around there.

  • Have you merged with another faction?
We begun since BETA. we took some rest on S.O.T.I. but that was just for about a month, and long time ago too.
  • Did your faction disband in the past 2 month?
Not at all
  • What the status on your server with factions?
In Vector we're well known because of our uniqueness. There's always some moron mocking about our language and nationallity but that's ok. We're just as good as you all and we are proud of being this wonderful minority.

#36300533204 01/04/2009 01:56:55 Re:Factions - are they gone?

  • What is you'r current situation of your faction?
De Novo's still a small faction, with 3 consistently active members (myself, gracewing, and DrHoliday), plus alts and some inactives.
  • Have you merged with another faction?
I had flirted with the idea of merging with Chariots of Fire last year, but decided to start anew.
  • Did your faction disband in the past 2 month?
No, but The GoodFellas (former faction) pretty much disbanded after I left.
  • What the status on your server with factions?
Being Syntax I do see people running around.  The most visible factions I've seen as of late have been SOCA, Somnulence (spelling?), and The Black Code.  There are others, but I'm pretty sleepy.

#36300533206 01/04/2009 02:25:10 Re:Factions - are they gone?

The problem is, without getting into number specifics, is that our faction, Les Enfants Terribles; has been here since beta, we believe the oldest continuous Merovingian faction on Vector if not MxO.  However with the New Approach our raison d'etre has been made somewhat irrelevant.  Our numbers have definately suffered because of it.  Because the new system is farming-based rather than storyline-based, my main concern has to do with the Borg effect upon small, elite factions.  If you need teams to farm stuff to simply access storyline content, it helps to actually have people in your faction online in any given time...the mega factions don't have this problem so I am concerned that just to access content the pressure will be high to join whatever Borg faction is on your org on your server.  (Not to knock any faction here....just speaking in generalities).

#36300533211 01/04/2009 03:43:05 Re:Factions - are they gone?

How many factions recruit brand new players into the game? im a noob for instance, learning extremely fast, upto level 6 first night playing and just started working for merv, however my perception so far is when you see the factions running round, because your such a low level, typically a noob reputation gets cast upon you and players see you as thus, therefore not good enough for them etc, and you have to try and fidn another active level 6 to run around with to not feel bored within the game, as exciting as it is, it can get boring beating up the 500th gang member in a back alley all alone knowing youve got 100,000 EXP to go till level 7 and you need to be level 20 before people take you seriously and stop asking you for fights at hardlines, players may quit early in the game for lack of new players being taken in by factions unless theyre level whatever and demmed good enough

#36300533212 01/04/2009 04:19:42 Re:Factions - are they gone?

Omega Syndicates pretty much a 4/5 person thing at this stage. Recruitments still open and whatnot, we just get no applicants. Vicious circle and all that I spose.

Thats a common misconception, MxO's factions generally welcome new players and whatnot into their ranks. What can i say? We like helping people =P

#36300533221 01/04/2009 06:05 Re:Factions - are they gone?
What is the current situation of your faction?
The Glitch Society is bordering on inactive, but there are - I'd estimate - about five or so people who jack in when they can. Unfortunately it always seems to be at different times, so we tend to miss each other and we're rarely seen en masse as a result. I've put all recruitment efforts on hold because I feel guilty letting new players see the more desolate side of MxO, I don't think we'd be able to help them into the game as much as we used to. We're the third oldest faction in MxO, and will be celebrating our fifth anniversary this month (subject to my ability to organise something), so maybe we'll see a few old faces around then.
Have you merged with another faction?
No, unless you count absorbing a crew into our ranks many years ago. And we'd only consider merging with a faction if we kept a) our name, 'cos our faction is one of the oldest and has too much history, and b) our site, 'cos it's the best. SMILEY
Did your faction disband in the past 2 months?
Nope, not even for administrative reasons (e.g. a broken faction name, inactive captain, etc.). And we never will disband fully either; the Glitch Society will survive as long as there is just one member remaining, and I've always professed at least my intent on staying with MxO until the servers close for good.
What's the status on your server with factions?
I can only speak of Machinist factions because I don't follow the other organisations at all (except maybe the Cypherites, only because their shufflings and politics are so loud you can't help but notice). I reckon at the moment SOCA is doing the best, followed closely by the Watchmen who were doing the best but months ago. And then there's always the faction filled with people who quote the most 4chan and make the most noise, but I think some of them are leaving MxO so I can't predict their future. Apart from that, most other factions are getting steadily smaller, a process only slightly impeded by their individual recruitment efforts.
#36300533279 01/04/2009 14:55 Re:Factions - are they gone?

As gerik said, its pretty much just the two of us. Ive tried recruiting, but with no one around, they just dont want to be apart of nothing. I can get them in but they dont stay.

On top of that, most players jsut go off to WoW now, or other SOE games. They like more population, and content. Even I personally dont like to have to Farm to get a mission, so ive been spending my 15 bucks on Combat Arms and free games... Sub ends the 6th, and Ill be back as soon as money comes in. But again Ill just be off on the side lines... with even less of a reason to grind those last 5 levels to fifty.

1. The Sirens have quite a few crickets chirping these days. I became the leader last Spring when the last few active Sirens other than myself pretty much left the game. I'd love to have some girls back in the faction, but Recursion is rather spartan these days, so I content myself with running solo most days. Frequent breaks away from the game on my part make recruitment difficult as well.

2. Nopies

3. Once, in order to restucture, but that was extremely brief. As one of the original factions from beta, The Sirens are a legacy that I refuse to let die. I will see them through until MxO ceases to be.

3. Considering that at any given time of day, and in any neighbourhood, /who brings up myself and maybe one other person, factions are pretty much dead and gone on Recursion.
