Again, lets not forget that it isn't just hardcore gamers who play. Dual booting or having to uninstall an OS and install a different one just to play a an old game which is already 'on life support' as you put it is rediculous when some of the issues may simply be fixed by looking into texture maps and lighting speculation and adjusting them.

Besides, how do you know most of the time was taken up by the Vista issues? Because Rarebit posted a few images? Also, Lol at the idea that an update will be released only to benefit Vista users. But sure, lets forget about the vista issues and alienate those who do play with it, they obviously don't think gaming is serious business.

Yes, because of that. Rarebit gets so giddy about his new content he always posts teasers of it. So far nothing but crappy Vista!

#36300535520 01/14/2009 18:23:38 Re:Image Retrieval December 17, 2008

no image retrievals, no dev screen shots other than the vista bug shots, no org meetings this month, patch delayed by 2 weeks given its because of xmas but yeah ok.  all the usual things that show what rarebit is working on to keep us all subscibing every month. This month there has been nothing.

Good thing then that to offset his holiday time off (how dare he have time off), he has extra time in which to add a little something for the non vista sufferers?

As amusing as this argument may be, it isn't going anywhere. I am determined to fix the Vista issues, because like it or not, where Microsoft's OSs go is where a large portion of potential customers go, and as it is now, as soon as someone finds the "wrong" type of shiny new clothing for their character, the game becomes unplayable for them unless they have the perseverence to figure out how to avoid it--and they shouldn't have to do that.

You'd have to ask Customer Service about that. I suspect the answer is "No." Let me know what they say if you ask them, though.

how about the people who joined this game thinking they were going to get a continuing interactive story. should they have to put up with the fact that there isnt any.  As much as I love farming and I do but not at the cost of losing the interactive story line so far the only live event character ive seen for zion since the new approach was niobe who didnt have a clue what was going on.

That sounds like an awesome idea. Adding the Boxers part that is.

Most of the gamers playing these days are on Vista. Face it.  And would you want to start and continue playing a game that looks like MxO does on Vista?  What if L4D, CoD, and even the almighty WoW glitched out like MxO does? Would you stick with it?

No, you wouldn't.

Rarebit has to divide his time because he's all we've got, and right now his priority is trying to fix this. From the looks of it Windows 7 has the same graphical glitches, so he's not robbing us of our content, just delaying it because we have to look ahead and plan on people using the new OS's.

If that would have happened to ANY of those games, that problem would have been fixed in a week, tops. Why? Because all those games have more than one full time developer on staff. Not to mention, WoW is Blizzard's flagship MMO. It's going to be resolved. Blizzard CARES about WoW. Can SOE honestly say the same about MxO? We were bought as part of a deal for gaining rights to DCU.

I am willing to bet $100 Dollars American if EQ2 had the glitches MxO had, they would be fixed in 1-2 weeks tops.

MxO has been and always will be SOE's Redheaded Stepchild. Period. Just when we thought we couldn't go any lower, SOE proves us wrong.

#36300535581 01/15/2009 02:02:20 Re:Image Retrieval December 17, 2008

I agree 100%.  WoW, EQ2, all of those would have poured all available resources in to fix the glitches.  That's why I agreed with Rare's line of thinking in reference to the Vista glitches.  They should've been fixed when Vista came out, but we all know we don't have the resources and SOE as a company just doesn't care.  The Agency and DC Universe are where it's at, didn't you know?

At the end of the day Rare's only 1 man.  That's why I'm ok with sitting on content while this stuff gets fixed.

#36300535589 01/15/2009 03:34:13 Re:Image Retrieval December 17, 2008

I'm all for the Vista fixes, afterall, it'll probably fix Windows 7's issues too since they work on the same codebase.

And Windows 7 rules so far so huzzah =P

Oh god this. Of all the modern forum systems I've run into, the SOE forums are by far the most frustrating and user unfriendly. Dev trackers might take you the correct dev post, or they might just put you randomly somewhere in the thread. A thread might have 3 pages, but it won't show it from the topic listing until it hits about 5 pages and has been there for a few days. The go to newest post button will often send you to the first post in that thread, even if you've been in that topic 10 times and the first post is about a week old.

Sheesh cut the guy some slack!  I'm one of the new approaches harshest critics, but you do have to factor in the limited resources and time lost during the Holidays.  Besides, we had delays last time this year because of that.  Your posts make Baby Jesus cry.

I'm not saying that I'm upset about the lack of image retrieval this month or the lack of an update or whatever. Hell, Rarebit is only one man. And that's the problem. This entire game's future content (if such a word can be applied) is all dependant on one man, which is absolute bull.

At the same time, he deserves a break. Honestly, who here would be happy to work on Christmas/Hanukhah(sp)/New Years? Not a dammn person. He's human, people. Give him a break.

But only for this instance. This doesn't mean that Rarebit can be allowed to lollygag(yeah I said it) and expect us to take that. That's SOE's fault for leaving all this responsibilty on one man.

Rarebit, can I ask you an honest question? Have you ever complained at ALL about the lack of support you get from SOE? Anything at all? Can you even complain? At the rate this game is going, will it even last another year?

He signed an NDA with Sony Corporation, so if he badmouths SOE a microchip-enabled ampule they implanted subdermally will release a concentrated neurotoxin which results in a horribly excruciating, very messy death within a matter of minutes.  So, the answer is No.

This'll end up being another week without an Image Retrieval. Last week I actually thought I'd have one this week, but that was reckoning without the office being closed on Monday and eh stuff. Sooo anyway, I *think* (again) I'll have one next week, and in any case whenever the next one comes out it'll be showing off two things instead of just one, so yeah.

An update to shut off the winter event might happen on the 22nd, but that may be pushed off until the next main update.

The next main update is probably Feb 12th (two weeks longer than usual since the last main update, due to dev slacking with time off over the holidays).

EDIT: Oh yah, I should mention that since the original spec for the winter holday was to have it shut off on the 15th (tomorrow), after the servers come back up from the weekly restart, the Holiday mission will be disabled until 9mmfu can get in and re-enable it manually.

May we have more playtime with the Yetis, monsignor?

It would appear so.  Station Launcher will work though.  Hopefully a temporary fix (like last time) though.  I have mentioned this to SOE Support.  After several Reps strangely disconnected when mentioning MxO.  Surely a coincidence.

nope

error 15 missing file= game DOESNOT work. Click on character name and then I get another pop error window "Invalid access to memory location."

What the hell?

they did it they killed the game.

thks!

this is the second update in a row with nothing but problems trying to get the game to work.

You could always try a file scan beforehand if you haven't already. However Normal launcher still works despite the error message.

I know but it shouldnt be doing that.  If we let that go, then I shudder to think of the next unexplained patch error, there might not be a workaround next time.

Yeah, I realise that and will welcome a fix for it, I was just letting people know that simply clicking ok still allows me to get into the game.

Yeah.  Clicking Ok allows me to get to Loading Character.  Then I get another error saying Corrupt Files.  I know some faction mates can get in after clicking OK, but they're on XP.  And I'm on Vista.

A "corrupt file" error is probably a separate problem. I was able to get into the game okay on my Vista install. We're aware of the "missing file" error reported by the launcher in Live, and hopefully they'll figure out what the server config issue is that's causing it (9mmfu says it didn't come up on our various test servers).

#36300537649 01/23/2009 14:58:39 Re:Image Retrieval December 17, 2008

Thought I'd chime in on this thread to say I'm experiencing the Patch System Error on my Vista install as well. I'm still able to play the game though.

Hmm, odd.  I just randomly opened it up again and tried.  While getting the Patch Error I was still able to continue all the way through this time.  No idea why, but at least I can get in again.

I made a dummy _patchrecovery.log in my install path, and forced the first log to happen. /recoverycf.zcf downloads fine to _patchcf.prev.zcf, and when un-gziped, is a valid manifest digest.

However, looks like on the same server, /postfix/recoverycf.zcf is a missing file.

However, after the full system check, it erases that action from the log file and tries this:
