So, after seeing the PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Kojima bundle on Amazon, I finally broke down and ordered one. Question is, I have a standard TV (32" Sony Trinitron) and the ps3 will be hooked up via S-Video (audio-wise, I have a 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS set up, connected via optical cable)... am I going to notice any difference between Blu-Ray and regular DVDs?
Basically, will it be worth it to buy Blu Ray movies? I should mention that I have no intention of buying another TV for a long time.

No you will not notice a difference in Blu-ray Movies. The only possible plus side for you is, there may be extra features on a blu-ray movie that a stand dvd movie doesn't have, but more importantly, if and when that times comes you DO have a HDTV you WILL notice an outstanding difference.
But in all honesty, wait til after the anolog/digital switchover, and HDTV will go down in price, and take it from me... if you have an HD gaming system, PS3 or 360 you owe it to your self to own an HDTV to play it on. Not for movies, but for the GAMES! It makes such a huge difference when playing your favorite games. I couldn't imagin playing MGS4 on a SD tv.
Yeah, I'll eventually get an HDTV, but not for another year or so. Thankfully, playing MGS4 on a standard tv will probably still look amazing to me, since I've never seen it on HDTV. I'm honestly quite psyched... I'm a huge MGS fanboy.

Standard definition tv's go at about 720x480 resolution. So you won't get the full 1080p performance. But it will still be the sharpest thing you've ever seen on that tv.

Technically your picture will be slightly better, but its such a small improvement you are not going to be able to notice it.
My personal opinion tho, if you plan on getting an HDTV then I would go ahead and buy certain movies on blu-ray. Movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight... the epics, stuff that has intense visuals, that way you can still watch them, and when you DO have an HDTV you don't have to rebuy them.
Just food for thought.
agreed with all the post id say go ahead and switch your collection when ur buying future movies to blu ray atleast you will get some more aditional features as well for now till you get the HDTV by the way Fen whats your psn Name if you have one yet Mines Neo881
You may not be planning to get a HDTV at the moment but in the end you'll probably end up getting one so I'd suggest buying Blu-Ray from now on if you have a player so that when you do get that new TV eventualy you have a catalogue of Blu-Ray high-def movies rather than standard definition DVD's.
Plus Blu-Ray isnt that much more than DVD, quick example. The Dark Knight DVD 2 disk £11.99 - The Dark Knight Blu-Ray 2 disk £14.99, £3 more for something that is far superior in quality is not that much.
Well, I got my PS3 Bundle this morning on my doorstep... needless to say, I'm extremely excited and bummed that I have to be at work. 
Shoulda called out sick... but then I forgot I was a responsible adult. 
So, to answer your question Nubious, I don't have a PSN name yet. I hear the PS3 has WiFi access, and I'm pretty sure there's WiFi in my neighborhood (my nephew was able to use it on his PSP at my place). If I can't get on that WiFi connection, I probalby won't be playing my PS3 online, unless I can be arsed to go out and get a wireless router (which, since I didn't for my PS2, I likely won't for my PS3).

PSN is tottaly free and there are tons of free demos, videos, music, pictures, wallpapers, themes, and other addons. Not to mentions if your conected to the internet, thats the easiest way to update your ps3 system, which you WILL need to do if you want to fix the little things here and there.
Your a MGS fanboy? Your missing out on half your game, cuz you wont be able to play MGS online, not to mention MGS4 has all kinds of cool stuff you can download for use within the game... again FOR FREE.
If you dont connect your ps3 to the internet you are missing out on half the fun that everyone else get... FOR FREE! I don't care if you you gotta run a 100 ft ethernet cable through your house, connect it up, otherwise you paid twice as much as you should have because your missing half the action.

I suppose running some cable would work... I still want to check to see if I can hook up to the wifi around here, though.

Well, I unboxed it and fired it up yesterday. Just played around with the training room and watched the mission briefing, but even just those two things were pretty awesome. It looks really good on my tv, too!
Sad news, I can't get any wireless signals... good news, I'm gonna buy a long arse ethernet cable on my way home.
I doubt I'll do any Metal Gear Online shenanigans tonight... I think I'm going to hunker down and play the main storyline first.

Yep. I played Pirates on DVD and Blu-Ray on my dad's 52" Samsung. There was enough detail where I could see almost individual beard hairs on the blu-ray and not on the DVD
I just recently bought a TV. from best buy. While looking around they had a 64" LCD samsung, While Spidey 3 was playing. It looked amazing. I havent seen what Blu ray was prior to that. Boy was i shocked. Even the fiance was amazed with it. The Blu Ray quality look 10x better then regular DvD. But the set up costed alot. So was out of the question.
IMO If u have the cash to do it. Then go for it. If not listen to what these guys have already posted. Go for LCD I think it has a better quality then plasma.

supposedly those issues have been fixed in newer plasmas, but they still carry that repuation and that has made them cheaper then LCDs, however its still a risk, but worth looking into. MY personal opinion if on a budget, and don't care about having a skinny TV, go DLP. I think they only go to 720p, but that is still Very hi-def, its actually better then 1080i, but of course not 1080p. In the average household your not going to be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p.
The bigger the TV the more resolution you need. If your getting a 40-50 inch tv you gotta be just a few feet from the tv to be able to tell the difference.

Sadly I have to agree :[ I played and beat cod4 at my cousins who has all that stuff so when i got it for my PC (and my old hardware) it pales in comparrison to HD beauty. same goes for starwars unleashed and when i rented it for wii :\

how is the duel mode on the wii it looks like it maybe fun im thinkin bout renting and giving it a shot
its kinda fun I wish you could customize your powers like in the jedi out cast or acadamy games but its just characters with different strengths of course everyone can do everything but mace windu has a way stronger push that a choke. Of course I only played it a bit with my girlfriend, but if I were you I'd try the clone wars one even though its a little kidish since its based on the movie I bet its about the same or better since its the main focus and not just a side note to make up for the crappyer level design.
that and i bet theres more characters on the clone wars one minus star killer who just has different outfits in the duel mode
