Is SoE looking for the 7+ market?

#36300516135 10/31/2008 11:33:48 Is SoE looking for the 7+ market?

Not trying to flame anyone but, others have pointed out to me how, suddenly the female Gis have pants now and the new clothes are formalized. Meanwhile, the forum filters being applied on words like d@mn (that's not a link btw...) and posts that have very subtle allusions (non-political) dissappear all over. at a certain point you wonder "What the eff, did i dream of posting that?" i mean i didnt hear about anyone sueing you on these matters, yet it seems like we're going back towards the 50s, wearing ugly clothes and restricting our convos like we're living in communism or other extremist censorship society. So my question is, is SoE trying to open MxO for 7+ kids (as if we haven't got enough alrdy)? Of course, I understand, marketing policy right? Just curious.

P.S.: Horrid, i couldn't even put a W in fron of TF, on that note i'd like to reiterate my question: TF is going on?

Its probably because some people don't like it and report posts and complain to SOE about it.

Edit: Also, get over it and move on.

You may find some answers to your questions here:

(Might have looked nicer if the link button actually worked)

Plus, what Gerik said. Well done for catching up with the rest of us though.

That's what she said.

First, there is no right to free speech on a private forum.

Second, your subscription is for game play access, the forums are not part of that.

Thirdly, in order to use our forums, you agreed to abide by our forum rules, Official Forum Rules - Read Before Posting

Especially important is the consequences section and Rule 6. I'll copy them below:

Consequences

If you fail to adhere to the rules, here are a few of the actions that might be taken against you, based on the severity of the violation.

  • Editing of post or signature
  • Removal of the ability to have a signature or link and image posting privileges
  • Deletion of the post or thread
  • Locking of the thread
  • A warning on record attached to the player's account. Warnings are given for less severe message board infractions. Any player that receives three warnings for misconduct will be banned.
  • Suspension, resulting in the user being unable to access any Matrix Online forum, or play The Matrix Online for the duration of the suspension at the discretion of the community team. Any subsequent warnings after a suspension will result in banishment.
  • Banishment, resulting in the user's forum posting privileges revoked. At the discretion of the community team, the user's access to The Matrix Online may also be removed along with their Station account closed.
  • Legal action

Those who violate the rules of the message boards may or may not receive any warning before action is taken.

Rule 6: Enforcement
Your participation in the Forums is subject to modification, deletion, access limitation or ban, by moderators, at their sole discretion, without notice or appeal. While SOE does not generally monitor content, it retains the right, at its sole discretion, to edit content and limit users' access that it considers inappropriate. SOE is not responsible for any failure or delay in taking such actions

Ok so basically the MxO clothes design has nothing to do with the new rules? I am aware of the EULA , Virrago, was just curious about the reasons behind the imposing of the new, more strict rules, all the sudden. As far as I rmbr words like W-T-F weren't censored.all i'm saying.i guess Gerik's reason could be valid, but that's just speculation. I can guess tho that you're not allowed to reveal those reasons, or not aware of them, which is understandable

#36300516194 10/31/2008 15:21:30 Re:Is SoE looking for the 7+ market?

Oh good lord, we're being 1984'd!

Before you know it, everyone will be forced to adapt to Disney Kids restrictions! No dark comments, no dark stories (even in RP), no references to bad things happening in the world... everything will be censored because anything could be offensive to anybody! O_O! To be able to post anything at all, we'd have to conform to the most extremist shades of innocence...

As an obscenely cute squirrel, I am already prepared, of course.

Planning ahead for the win!

*Edit: I think I can answer the question of the addition of legs to the female Gis. Basically, Rarebit thought they made girls that wore them look like skanks.

Ok, i could /agree on that.

I was wondering, rmbr that Zion LE when the zionites killed the Spider Program? (i wasn't there btw, so don't blame me )

"Niobe" was like "and don't *censored* kill it next time!" Imagine Rarebit getting the message . we're sorry, your post cannot be submitted , as it contains a forbidden word. Please edit your post.

basically, i'm bit curious on why they couldn't just let the auto-censorship do the work, instead of not letting u submit. however, this is just one part of my question. i wont repeat myself

*edit* don't forget to /add skank to the blacklist lol

Well, I can't answer the clothing changes... but your reasons sound reasonable to me.

As for the forums, just remember they are PG-13.

I, personally, think that you should allow users a bit of self censorship and let the autofilter pick up on everything else like it used to be. I can understand if you would edit a person's post if they replaced "u" with "v," or if they took the time to post one of those cool little pictures made of text of certain extended fingers, but the current situation feels too much like you've decided to treat everyone like they barely qualify for PG-13.

You know what I really liked about the old censoring filters? How it used to replace certain words with silly phrases, like "You piece of *poop*!" Or "Oh, *donuts*, Zippy!" Or "Well, *misplace your blanket* you!!" My point is, there's no need to be stiff about being stiff. ^.^

#36300516699 11/03/2008 07:02:08 Re:Is SoE looking for the 7+ market?

I prefered the *welcome to our forums* *poop* etc lol Made it a kinda light hearted humour and made swearin less offensive. I swear quite alot and to go through a post to try and change 1 swear word (that you don't even think is a swear word lol) can get quite annoyin ha ha

Ingame swearin... use Safe Chat, thats what its there for. Having someone banned for sayin a 3 lettered word meaning not straight, and also another name for a smoke, is a bit ridiculous. I donno how often i should have been banned for calling someone it ingame for running, jumping, buffing etc.

In other words, lighten up everyone. Most of the younger ones, 11+ swear more than people like me

p.s. Skankify GI's again

#36300517692 11/06/2008 04:39:49 Re:Is SoE looking for the 7+ market?

unfortunatley it appears we are living in a world where censorship has taken over.  This is now shown in just about every aspect of day to day life be it Television, radio, newspapers and now apparently the forum.  For UK'ers, just look at the recent Russell Brand / Jonathon Woss incident.

Freedom of speech is merely an illusion.
