Would it be posible to upgrade the mail system, so you can send out to all in the faction and not just the crew? If it can be done with the crew mail, why not faction? Or do anyone know's a trick to send out to all in the faciton at once?

I'm not aware of a way to send out a faction mail, but i'd love to be able to.

You could just email to captains and then have them pass it to their crew, but yeah, this would be nice too.

I just type in all the names... I dunno any other way to do it.

I've always heard this was because of a player who had claimed the name "Faction" before the email system was put in place, but that may just be a rumour.

In any case, the only thing I can suggest is sending one email to each captain, and then having them forward it to their crew.  It would be nice if there was a one step way to email to the whole faction though.  SMILEY

Thats what I heard too, and i have not seen the guy in years.   I say we really need this, it would be very awesome.

It would help quite a bit.

Not a rumor, just a basic lie.
SOE would just make them rename.

If your going down this route you could also go down the org mail route.... which i imagine would be a nightmare to implement.

Then this also brings to mind .. org chat.

Yes, taken it further to organization mail - org. chat - is another step forward. I just thought, that now the crew mail is working without problems it should be posible to upgrade it to faction mail, but again we need a answer from a dev. if that is posible at all...

Oh aye?  Sweet... is it only captains / FM's that can do this or all in crew?

SRSLY??? I had no idea you could do that. NEAT!
Keep in mind that any updates to the chat system would need to take place system-wide, that is, not just MxO but all SOE games that use the (shared) chat system. So there would need to be the equivalent of "org chat" in SWG, EQ, EQ2, etc. etc.

Personally unsure, but a minor annoyance is if you do it to crew (I did it as my crews captain) it sends it to the whole crew and back to yourself...which makes sense since you are on your crew lol. Just funny to be sending mail to yourself.

As to the faction mail, I also would like to see this implemented sometime in the forseeable future. I think if you do org mail you'd have to wait and see how the new approach topic effects the splinter factions. An example would be if you send an email to zion does it only go to zionites or to EPN as well since they (from a PVP standpoint) are still zion?

Good suggestion though

swg has had seperate rebel chat and imperial chat channels (and it does actually moderate it as such, except for right when you change factions) for ages now.  they also have seperate channel channels for market and planet specific chat channels.  furthermore they also allow you to make your own chat channels.

I always wanted this when i was running PeaceKeepers.

There was nothing worse than having to mail captains / Firstmates that dissapeared.

So the crew mail.. is that to your own crew only?

Yes, to your crew only.  It also sends it to yourself. If you notice on the email you get back, the email system has automatically changed "Crew" to all of the members names. So, if you hit reply to all, it puts all the crew members in your To: field.

So, if you are trying to get a crew roster from your captains and they are lazy and dont want to type out each name, have them send a test crew mail and then in the one they recieve, hit reply to all, then erase all the names in the To: field and have him put your name.  Then when you get the email, you will see all the names of their crew in the email header! It sounds more complicated than it is.

Now that's handy, thanks Hydra. SMILEY

oooooh this is a good idea, i can send a email to all my inactive faction m8s haha SMILEY

#36300523156 11/24/2008 11:54:36 Re:Faction mail

I would surmise that the reason for a lack of faction mail while crew mail exists is simply a database thing.  Crews seem to have a different structure than factions in the programming.  So while the email system can easily access your character's "Crew" data, it may have a harder time digging up faction data, or may do so inaccurately.

This has been spoken about before, the entire faction control panel needs a revamp its so plain.

  • Faction Mail
  • Crew leaders mail
  • Faction message of the day
  • Faction Bursar rank (So the Leader and an elected person control the faction funds)
  • Crew Rank displayed in details

These are some of the things i think should be added alone.

Yes, all that for Christmas from our dev's would be great!

the append feature would be very very nice escpecially for those that like to keep inventory clean or carry extras or collect. You can already double click a item to withdraw a single item from emails so should be easy to allow the reverse.

I wouldn't say it'd be easy to do the reverse. Double clicking takes a single item out from a sent e-mail that's fair enough but the other way round would append items to an already sent and paid for e-mail. I don't think the mail system would allow for a single item to be sent (remember it's an e-mail system not a storage system, thus paying for the item as you would by e-mailing items to yourself) then magically attach itself to an existing e-mail in your inbox.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it's unlikely to be as simple as made out to be.
