Hello everyone!

I recently plugged into the Matrix and before I get too far along and start wasting time with in-effecient grinding/farming I have a few questions.

  1. When logging into the game, there are 3 servers to choose from. In which order would you say that the servers are populated?
  2. During Character creation youre asked to take the blue or red pill. Does the choices reflect different outcomes? I initially selected the red-pill, I'm just wondering if choosing the blue pill has any consequense.
  3. The combat system is pretty straightforward and stressfree. I've been enjoying it alot. When forming a group I normally assume that you need the 3 basic combat roles covered (Tank/Healer/DPS). Do you see any of those roles being covered by certain avatar builds?

Thank you for your time! SMILEY

2. it dosnt affect anything

3. by avatar builds if you mean body size... if you mean body size it makes no difference

1. There are actually only three servers. Population wise it's Syntax first, then who knows between Vector and Recursion but Vector is the PVP server.
2. Taking the blue pill basically does not allow you to make your guy so take the red one.
3. Healer isn't really needed unless your doing some hard core stuff. This game is slightly different than other games in that we have roles but I wouldn't say we have the traditional tank/healer/dps.

Tank is either Aikido, Duelist or an upgrade artist at higher levels.
Healer, well any of the patcher trees.
DPS or roles best known for it are Karate, SMG, and well pretty much everything haha.

Be what you want to be, and if you don't like it change. One of the best strengths of this game is choice.

1. Syntax most populated, then Recursion, then Vector.
2. Blue pill puts you back to sleep (quit the game), red you enter the real world and begin your life as an operative.

I don't know of any MMO where the visual body size affects anything, I was referring to the difference in combat templates SMILEY

Thanks for the other responses, those clears up alot. I think I'll reroll an avatar on Syntax and get to work again, luckily I wasn't too far along on Vector (which might have been a tad over the top to begin with SMILEY)

All questions being answered, I won't repeat what anyone else has said, but welcome to Syntax if you decide to reroll there! If you have questions, or need any help with anything, feel free to send to me on Arkiya.

Blimey! Welcome to MXO! Mind the mess. Not been long here m'self. Sadly no bar-fights quite yet. 'Vicious' ones or otherwise. SMILEY

Hope you enjoy it. I know I do. Puts TKA or the Smuggler melee line to shame.

I don't know if this question was actually suitably answered... I think you are asking about the character trait option (True Believer, Seculded Introvert, New Age Hippy etc). The answer to this question is YES.

The name will affect the base attributes of your character. Use the character you have generated to see the implications of this in the Upgrade screen. One of the attribute fields will be boosted to 11 and another will be reduced to 5. This will obviously mean that the character has advantages and disadvantages in certain skills; regardless of stat hacking back to you base numbers.

Luckily the avatar creation process is pretty straightforward. I could see the variety in the different starter templates right away and the stats was given a good description. I was worried that somehow my choises early on would impact the template I was going with later.

For now I've re-rolled on Syntax (a New Age Hippie I believe). Currently level 11 after a day of milling about Westfield and doing some of the hideouts. I'll likely be running with some Aikido for tanking high level mobs for XP. I know the quests give good XP, but ... I am one of those that doesn't like to be locked into alot of quests from the get-go and then finding out later on that my choises I made early on I shouldn't have done. I also don't want to be at a disadvantage for choosing that route. I've done a few collections to get new gear too.

I read the starter guides here and it also gave me a good rundown of what mission handlers I could go with in each area. Once you get the general idea, levelling is quite easy. Its not that very different from "another game" I'm playing, and the scaled encounters gives you an adequate challenge no matter what area youre doing the quests in, this works alot better here with all the instanced questing.

Of course there are times when you panic and press all buttons as youre about to die, but overall I'm having fun. Im especially enjoying hopping around on rooftops and discovering parabolic discs. Of course at this stage I have no clue what theyre there for, but looks like fun.

Fighting mobs is a good way to gain XP, get the collector items and explore the world however you may find yourself moving on to higher level mobs quicker than your level character can handle.

Standard missions are quite repetative (although there are different mission types available) but Archived missions, missions that were once critical storyline missions and are now saved as tokens in Org bookshops, present an engaging storyline and large XP with NPC's always scaled to 1 level above yours. As well as Large XP and decent info per mission, you can trade mission completion tokens in certain groups for Org clothing or chapter visual fx (for example green drippy code eyes for completing all three orgs chapter 5 missions). Another benefit is that your Org reputation isn't affected by archived missions so you can do all three orgs and see who had what effect on the story.

However, I know you said you didn't want to get drawn into missions and miss out on stuff, so just be aware that you are under no obligation to continue the missions so you can stop at any time and explore some more!

Good luck in the world

Thats some great advice, thanks.

Im guessing youre referring to the missions you can buy into from the bookstore NPC's?

Also I found a collector that grants the mobious code, that should come in handy SMILEY

Thats right, the mission tokens from the bookstore NPC's. The Mobius code can come in handy in a fight and doesn't take up any memory like Hyperjump Beta (also available from Doc Martin) however the gum you have to trade for these abilities can only be farmed in the Datamine construct from SSR security of equal or higher level then yourself. (There may be a few sticks of gum on the marketplace but only if you're lucky)

Bear in mind though that the difficulty is increased because not only are you flagged as hostile to players from opposite Orgs, you are flagged as hostile to your own side as well so watch your back. Datamine is usually fairly quiet now that the rush for the items has come and gone but a regular /who will let you know who is in the area. Most people will just be datamining or farming for the items but ther are some that go in to hunt others down regardless of Org.

Vincent, don't delete your vector char (if you haven't already.) Get use to the combat system then jump over to the real server SMILEY

Cyber has a character over there and is currently leveling up.

Does most populated necessarly mean better???

and atm i'd say its Syntax, Vector, Recursion population wise.

98% Of teenagers surround their minds with rap music, if you're part of the 2% that stayed with Metal, put this in your signature. :P +1
#36300504223 09/29/2008 10:22:09 Re:Newbie to the source
Yeah seriously dude trust me this game gets boring after awhile Id go hostile server because if you ever do make it to 50 your going to be wanting some pvp to pass the time.

As for population honestly Its Syntax Vector Recursion.

#36300504227 09/29/2008 10:51:14 Re:Newbie to the source
Because PvP doesn't happen on Recursion or Syntax?

I have no problems with lesser populated servers, neither do I have problems with PVP servers (I love killing other players as much as the next guy). I just wanted to make sure I got off to a great start, but the mindset is casual gameplay. Being on a populated server means I have a good chance to get into groups regardless of when I choose to play.

Since I have come from SWG, Im aware of the problems with lesser populated servers, I usually recommend to transfer so theyre not missing out on content.

I deleted my avatar on Vector, but its not like it matters. He was only Level 10 or so when I made the switch to Syntax.

Seems I have to do some reading up on the Datamine thing.

Get yo as* on vector for pvp.
