Weird, it only happens when dxt compression is added in. Huh. Nice thing is that it avoids that aliased edging you get on the completely clear glasses.

I think because any dxt, other than a dxt1, packages itself as containg an alpha channel, so even if it's left blank and asked not to use any bits to store data, it is still trying to be accessed by the rest of the file.

A 3Dc may may be of use, which works best with a dxt5, as it helps create lighting on an otherwise matte surface  - a lack of which may be creating the "mirrored" effect on the shades.

Let's make a few new versions of Agent Pace to model the dilemma for us, shall we?

"Nice" Pace (you've seen her before, although I have fixed up most of that nasty pixelization around the rims of her glasses)

"Dark" Pace (she's been around)

"Smoky" Pace (like the Valkyrjar in the IR)

"Mirrored" Pace
[Gah, this image absolutely refuses to upload. Maybe the internet will love me more tomorrow.]

Now *three* new pairs of glasses is something my current quest's scheme doesn't fit comfortably. Hm... What to do, what to do...

Bonus "Mirrored" image:
These two are definitely my favourites.

While I remember, I'd love Pace's Dove Pin as an FX.
#36300492766 08/28/2008 04:32:59 Re:Image Retrieval - August 27, 2008
Not a fan of the mirrored version, the other two look ok though.

Does that have the same properties as the Sector sunglasses back when that was also reflective (or maybe it still is - haven't checked lately). Having that silver reflective tint would be cool. But not like the Sector ones since that seem to have multiple colors reflected off of it.

Nice Lighting Effects on the background and the shade is the right choice for this picture
#36300492840 08/28/2008 08:30:09 Re:Image Retrieval - August 27, 2008
Hmm... let's see.

I love all 3 of them. However, if we must only choose 2, then I would go with the clear and the mirror, and leave the smoky to the NPCs.

Why, you ask? Because the mirrored ones look like old fashioned cop sunglasses and I want them.

And there will be male versions, right?!?

Edit:  Gah, no.  I can't decide.  Perhaps go with the clear and the smoky, smoky on the NPCs, but then give Pace a copy of all of them.  I can see her interogating a hostage in those mirrored glasses for intimidation.  And the smokey glasses look like Transitions lenses so maybe when she goes out in the sun her clear glasses turn darker?  :P

Liking the look of those reflective ones.
As for the clears, its difficult to choose. I'm somewhat inclined to say smokey and leave the slightly rose tinted ones for Pace and the NPCs. You know, something to keep them unique but at the same time give players something similar. Kinda like what happened with the Area K coat.

 I love the suits.

More glasses is always a good thing. I like all three varieties, actually.
#36300492905 08/28/2008 11:48:44 Re:Image Retrieval - August 27, 2008
Smoked glasses for the Valkyr please! The Rest of the glasses to us!!! SMILEY Valkyr looks better without the clear glasses for sure! It takes away their powerhouse feel when you can see their eyes too much. SMILEY Mirrored shades OMG is that possible to have female mirror shades that buffed now?!! o.O *giggles* Need to buff the Voids too then won't ya? SMILEY

I guess this makes us all Einherjar?

Yeah, it's probably something like that. Little quirk comes in handy in cases like this. Dxt and a couple more obscure ones are the only compression schemes our engine supports, though.

Goodness only knows what this will do to Vista.

I love the Pace glasses and have been wanting them as much as anyone since we first saw them but....

I have so fallen for those mirror glasses! <3

I can't make up my mind... I <3 all three!

But I have been wanting the clear Pace glasses since PHOREVER!

#36300493007 08/28/2008 15:55:27 Re:Image Retrieval - August 27, 2008
Personally I would like the clear glasses. I had been meaning to catch up on some reading.

The mirrored ones are something my daughter would like as well.
#36300493022 08/28/2008 16:03:04 Re:Image Retrieval - August 27, 2008
Clear glasses -- YESH! I've been hoping for clear glasses: Sieges is supposed to be one of those geek types who's as blind as a post without her glasses. As she puts it: "I can hack into a secure server in five minutes, jump over a tall building in one leap, pistol-whip into submission a guy a foot taller and two times heavier than I am, but if I lose my glasses, I can't see a dang thing!"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einherjar

In Norse religion, the einherjar or einheriar were spirits of warriors who had died bravely in battle. From Old Norse, the name means "one-harrier" (herja meaning "to harry / lay waste"SMILEY. Thus it can be interpreted as "one-army-ers", "one-man-army", "army of one", or "outstanding fighter", but might also signify "those who are all [now] in one army", because when alive on earth they were in various armies and bands, but now they are all in the Army of the Dead.

After they die, the valkyries escort half of the slain from the battlefield to Valhalla (these are the "einherjar"SMILEY, which is part of Asgard (commonly described as the "Norse Heaven"SMILEY; the other half went to Fólkvangr (Freyja's hall). The Grímnismál describes Valhalla as having five hundred and forty doors, and through each of them, eight hundred could march abreast (a hundred, hundrað, in Old Norse could mean either 100 or 120), indicating the size of the hall and the numbers of the einherjar.

From that line that is in blod and under lined the white halls can play a roll in the quest that Rarebit is making for the Valkyrajs, cause the whit halls have many doors and Valhalla is describe to have 540 of them. heh either way i cant wait to see what's there story is about.

I can say in all honesty that I'm really looking forward to this one. Hopefully the story is as cool as the eye effect. Definitely a perpetual to gun for.

w00t this is more like it. Fair enough new constructs are nice and all but there is so much within the MegaCity itself. The gear better have good buffs.

p.s. Whats with gear like the pink GI, merv coat etc not have decent buffs? For a lvl 50 the res should at least be 30 pts SMILEY
