Why is the patch taking so long?????

Why is the first patch taking so long. i just got the game, it will take my first month subscription for the patch to download..
Is there anywhere i can download the patch outside or the matrix patcher?? i have had it going for 2 hours and it has only moved 3mm please help

The MxO patcher is the best one to use.  It will look like it's taking forever but it won't really be that bad.  Use the time to browse around the forums and help guides to get yourself familiarised with things for when you jack in. 

just leave it on all night or day it'll take a couple of hours since theres 3 years of 5 min or so weekly patchers in there.

OMG 13 hours today was my day off and here i am thinking im going to play today

I started playing back in November 2005, and I was on dial-up. Took me three nights of about five hours each night to download the entire patch. Three years later, I shudder to think what it would be like now, and I thank God I'm on Verizon FiOS.

brother i feel you. I am dowloading the patch as well and i have been sitting on it for 3 hours and here I was all ready to play.
