In regards to missing the storyline, here's a few resources for info that might help you catch up on some of what you've missed:

• MxOStory.com (Good references for Chapters 1- 8
• Live Events Board (Has a long list of posts detailing Live Events from the present all the way back to January of 2006)
• Missions and Storyline Board (Some summaries of past critical missions and other events)
• Archive Missions (Excellent feature in-game that allows you to re-live critical missions of long ago and experience storyline that you may have missed out on)

Here's a link to the Syntax Crew and Factions forums.  You might want to start your search there for a faction that might suit you.

Also, here's a wonderful beginners guide that I'd recommend to any newcomer.  In fact, just check out that whole site for a lot of good references about all of the wicked stuff there is to do, see, and experience in the game.  As for further questions, Searching the forums and posting in the Redpill Rescue (IE basically the New Players forum) will probably yield good results.  Don't be afraid to ask questions, we aren't
afraid to help.  See you in-game!

It might interest you to know that a year or two ago, we used to have a dev named Raijin. He doesn't work on the game anymore, but if you see references to Raijin on the forums, there's a chance it's in reference to the dev.
