New Players

Hi everyone!

I just bought this game last night, ive registered up and everything. Now all i have to do is wait for the Patch to download, which has taken 15 hours to get halfway.. and then sadly it froze and i had to start it up again. I have a few questions to do with the game and these are

1) How long did it take for you to patch the game when you first bought it?

2) I heard you can pick which side you fight for, either the Machines or Zion, and was wondering how this would affect the game play e.g. being able to fight people from Zion if i picked Machines, and getting certain missions that i wouldnt be able to recieve if i picked the opposing faction.

3) Is there a large community? like do people get together at a certain place to chat and chill out?

4) Do you team mostly or is it set to be mainly soloing?

5) Can you pick how you fight? so i maybe could choose between Martial Arts or Judo (or maybe they are the same thing, but you get what i mean )

 I know i should have probably looked into ALL things before i purchased the game but after seeing clips of it i was very enthusiastic and wanted to play it right away. So i would appreciate any help i could be given

Cool, thanks alot guys, i appreciate the help . I restarted the patch and its almooooooost done and it has only taken a couple hours this time around, dont ask me why :S. Also i think im going to go with Zion i like playing the 'rebels' on games. But whilst the patch is downloading i think ill refresh my mind of The Matrix and re-watch the DVD's to get me more excited, i can hardly wait! Im not sure what server ill be on though but i think ill be a 'kung-fu' kinda guy, how original right? lol. 2 more questions follow

6) what exactly is the 'Merovingian' or will i find out when i start playing?

7) Is there much character customization that can help in making your characters more unique?

After Completing so many missions from the starting ones. U will be notified from Agent Grey and Flood (Merv's Little Lackey) Then u will be able to select which side you would like to join. Each mission depending who your doing em for. Will gain you 1 rep point towards that Organization. And will also give you Negative points towards the other 2 Orgs.

But yes seek the merv. Live a life of wonderfull Treats and a sense of freedom. Merv all the way. If your on Vector  add me. /friend byond. Or on syntax. /friend by0nd.

Okay, i think thats a good solution. Ill try all three out and see what seems most appealing thanks for your help. Peace Out

Hmm thats cool, i want to do some live events, they sound fun . I found it incredibly difficult to find a handle lol i tried so many names yet they were all taken but i have one now which isnt too bad, hes called Zytex on the Syntax server, got him to level 5 and im about to make him go with Zion so if anyone wants to come join me or talk to me feel free as i could use all the help i get.

I hate that french guy in Reloaded too, im glad his wife betrayed him > so im definately going with Zion as i want to face Agents later on which rules out going with the Machines.. i think. Oh also, the operator who guides you in your mission says that if you stay in a completed misison for too long, Agents can appear and try to kill you.. does this actually happen, i havent tried waiting yet as i'd sh*t myself if they apppeared lol

*edit* hey i was thinking of switching to the 'Vector-Hostile' server, i was wondering if this was fairly similar to a PvP server in WoW, if it is ill definately switch, but the thought of getting to level 6 again saddens me lol *edit*

Okay ive always preferred PvP servers over normal ones... adds more realism to a game, but im guessing ill get killed by higher levels if i do this? lol

This looks like a good place for me to post considering I'm a new player aswell.  ATM i'm still going thru the download patch thing, so I decided to visit the forums and see what I could learn before i get ig.  I currently play swg and have for over 4 years now, getting a new computer is the reason for my long overdue visit to mxo.

My questions at this point are pretty basic, and may seem silly to most of you but I know nothing about this game so i must ask.  So first off, is it too late for me to be just getting started here?  I know that certain rewards have been handed out that are now unobtainable.....without these can i still be a factor in pvp?  Which throws me right to my next question, what is the best pvp server for me to go to?  I'm interested in a server that has balanced faction/ balanced pvp.  I'm pretty sure I'll be joining the Zion faction, or however you all phrase it here.

I'll wait before asking anything else, gonna let everything start to soak in, lol.

Vector-Hostile is a great server! It's really not too late to start. Those items, from past events, aren't neccacary to do good (in PvP).

Most players don't really have them.

I say give Vector a try!

k, got it that's the server I'm on.  Any idea why i constantly get this message that tells me that i am unable to fight for unknown reasons?

Are you using block tactics?

Vector's nice and all, but the feeling of being watched all the way to fifty is just too unsettling for me, I prefer Syntax teh RPvP server mang, plenty of fun. Plus EPN all the way, For Neo!

Meh, hostile servers are great and all, but if you want a real good time, come on over to Recursion, And for god sakes man, Zion tells you lies! You cannot be the one, you will see soon enough, they are only in the matrix for their own selfish little gain, trying to make their army bigger, pfft. Anyways Welcome to MxO, hope ya continue to enjoy it.

I'm assuming that I can make a toon on all three servers, so I will probably start another one on another server and lvl them both at the same time. 

Vector Hostile is a great server i've made friends, and it has just been a really enjoyable time.... today i was missioning with a mate and i got jumped by an agent lol did me for like 1,300 damage. But i cant wait for higher levels where everyone will be PvP enabled giving the game more adrenalin. Add me im with Zion too my handle is called Zytex ^-^ 

:o!!! my first thread and its been declared 'Hot' but... i'm not sure if thats a good thing because it shows i'm a complete noob who needs babysitting if you get me rofl

Also sometimes if it says 'cant fight for unknown reasons' which it has done to me in the past i just aborted, and reset the mission and then it worked fine.

Yes you can! ^.^ However, they can't have the same exact name (if thats what you wanted to do) you'd have to find a way of using numbers or letter to disguise it's difference ie using an I as a substitue for a lower case L etc... or you can have numbers after. It's no big deal really.

That sounds like a pain in the a** lol. I don't think you really need 2 characters as you can get every ability with only one, which would make leveling become extremely tedious and repetitive i think. Try getting one to 50 beforehand, its worked for me on other games ^-^

PS. Cool seeing you today, when your a bit higher level we can mission some ^-^
