#36300482732 07/28/2008 07:24:54 Evaluation 2: Code crafting (complete)

Evaluator:

Our next set of tests will be exploring the ability to create code in the Matrix. This is a fascinating feat granted by a combination of programs loaded into the RSI as well as the use of outside devices. How deep is your knowledge in the world of writing code? Feel free to attend and test it for yourself!

This evaluation will take place over two sessions, one at 10:00 a.m., and the other at 7:00 p.m. on August 2nd. The exact details of how the competition will work will be explained at the events, but all you will need is: Your code creating programs loaded into memory, your code writing tool, and be prepared with resources for coding, meaning code bits and possible fragments.

The location for this will be the rooftop at one of the Kalt towers in Kedemoth. It's the one the Furies have not taken up residence at. The X coordinates are roughly 1000, with the Z coordinates at about -1100. Remember, you'll have to take the elevator up.

I didn't participate in the first evaluation. Does that mean I can't participate in this one?

No. There are no restrictions on who can and cannot participate in each evaluation. You may participate in any or all of them.

Do I have to be in a specific organization to participate, or is this open to all redpills?

The evaluations are open to everyone.

Do I have to be at a certain neurokinetic level to take part in this evaluation?

No, but please be aware those in lower neurokinetic levels are at a disadvantage in this test and it may not be possible to obtain the maximum possible number of points. Any points you earn will go towards the overall total for all evaluations, so participating is advantageous to not participating at all.

Do I have to sign up on Data Node One to be eligible to participate?

Not for this test. You only need to be at the location to be announced, at the correct day and time.

If the evaluation has already started, and I arrive late, can I still participate?

Yes, this test is set up in a way that allows this. Please be aware it will be impossible to obtain the maximum number of points, however.

Am I allowed to wear clothing that enhances my code crafting abilities during the tests?

Yes. You may wear anything or nothing, for that matter.

There are two sessions for this, does this mean there will be two 1st place winners?

No. The places will be calculated based on the total number of points earned in both sessions.

Are we allowed to participate in both sessions?

Yes.

Why are the two sessions at such drastically different times?

Redpills operate on a number of different cycles when resting and being active. This was done in an attempt to allow an opportunity for the maximum number of willing subjects.

What if I am the only one who shows up to a session to participate? Will that session be cancelled or rescheduled?

No. If you manage to earn at least a point, you will keep them. If you earn no points, the session will be rescheduled once, and only once.

What if no one participates in one of the sessions, or what if no one earns any points in one of the sessions?

The session will be rescheduled once, and only once.

What is the maximum number of points possible to earn in each session?

20.

How will the scoring system work in this evaluation?

Like the first, the places will be calculated at the end of the tests. For example, at the end of the evaluation, if you have the most points, you will be awarded 1st place, and the 1200 points for the overall total. If you have the second most number of points, you will earn 1000 points for second place.

1st - 1200 points

2nd - 1000 points

3rd - 900 points

4th - 800 points

5th - 700 points

6th - 600 points

7th - 500 points

8th - 400 points

9th - 300 points

10th - 200 points

Will there be 75 points given to everyone who participates like there were in evaluation 1?

No.

Please ask any additional questions here, to me directly in the Matrix, or through a private message here to Merrit on Data Node One. Thanks for your participation!

Complete.

1st - Aquatium

2nd - 8ayamos

3rd - Omega02

4th - Conrac

5th - Catsi

Yes, and thank you. I have added that question to the others.

Dagnabit, finally something I do well and I won't be able to make it.  Good luck to all you crazy code slaves out there.
AAAIIIEEE! Sig no workie!

Sounds like fun, I should be able to get in for this.

Either my brother or I will be there for the second session, unless something comes up in the Real.

I'll try to make it to both sessions on 8ayamos, may not be able to make the second one depending on how long personlll's Scavenger Hunt on Recursion takes.

The location has changed, please see the original message for details. I apologize for any confusion.

You know, it's seems rather unfair that the points will be added from both sessions. You admit yourself that people from various locations may not be able to make one or the other and thus give them a dis-advantage from the start.

Wouldn't it be better if you just said that the same player can enter both sessions, but their highest score from 1 session will be the result taken, this way it is fair on those who can only make one or the other, while giving those who enter both a chance to better themselves from one session or the other?

Evaluator:

In some of the future evaluations, if I followed that sort of format it would open up possibilities for someone who can't score points to prevent others from scoring points, which I would like to avoid. Because this is a test in a series of tests, it's better to keep one format for all of them. I do understand the subject concerns, however, and there's certainly nothing to prevent me from having another series specific to one general block of time in the future, as long as there's willing subjects.

#36300484544 08/02/2008 07:47:49 Re:Evaluation 2: Code crafting - 8/2 @ 10:00AM & 7:00PM
I'm not sure you understood what I meant, which is specific for this particular evaluation.

You state that the points earned from the earlier time and the later time will be added together for a final score, correct? If that is correct, then those who can't make either one are already at a disadvantage to those that can make both.

I'd think it would be fairer for this trial for the score earned in each session to count as the final score, you allow people to enter both times to try and score more points, at the end of both times you will have your scores from both tests, from which you can score winners.

e.g
Player A can only make Time 1
Player B can only make Time 2
Player C can make both Times.

The scoring potential lies with player C, which is unfair on both player A and B. If you say you will take the highest score earned from each time as the single score, then player C only has a double chance to try and score better, rather than possibly talling 2 weaker scores, or good scores.

This way you are not stopping anyone from scoring points, but rather giving those the chance to make both tests, double chance to score points, and not just a tally of both. I hope that explained what I was saying better, Evaluator.

Quote: No. The places will be calculated based on the total number of points earned in both sessions.

Unless you mean that you can score in both but the points won't tally if you enter the first or second, but rather counted as 2 seperate points in a single leaderboard, if you do mean that, then I apologise for the confusion I have taken from that wording.

i.e I enter both, but I will have 2 tally points? which means the same person can come first and 2nd? In that regard, I would say that only the highest earned points from a single person can count towards their entered points.

#36300484554 08/02/2008 08:48:01 Re:Evaluation 2: Code crafting - 8/2 @ 10:00AM & 7:00PM

Evaluator:

You understood correctly how the scoring will work in the beginning. It is difficult to explain because I know what types of evaluations are coming and how they will work in the future, but the subjects do not. Some of them will be set up for different sessions at different times, like this one, but the ways of scoring will be very different. There would be possibilities for someone who had a significant score but could not earn points at a different session to either prevent others from scoring points, or aid someone else, giving them an advantage, which could both be used to ensure his or her score stays at the top.

I need to move the location back to the roof at Kalt. Unfortunately, I can't explain why I had to change it twice, but again I apologize for whatever confusion it may cause. Anyone who doesn't know where to go at the start time can simply contact me for directions. Thanks for your patience. See the original message for estimated coordinates.

#36300484853 08/03/2008 09:50:19 Re:Evaluation 2: Code crafting - 8/2 @ 10:00AM & 7:00PM

Evaluator:

Completed. Thank you to all subjects who participated. See the overall totals for all evaluations to date here.

The number of subjects did not amount to a 1-10th place final. Points were awarded for 1st to 5th place based upon number of points earned for item coding.
