Resetting of the matrix: I don't mean to reset all people to level 1 or removing money or items, but just a replay of the chapters instead of the current storyline (maybe in a faster cycle than normally is the case). Like a rerun of a soap story SMILEY.

Most people don't know anymore what happened in any of the chapters, I don't even remember what happened in the last chapter. I think this is the case for most players.

Advantages:
- It would give development some breathing space, maybe afterwards 1 bigger chapter or a new construct or so.
- Also if the old chapters would just be "spit-polished" (assuming that takes much less than making a full chapter) it would make for a better experience for first time players (less bugs/inconsistencies).
- Maybe inserting here and there some new missions or so (it's a reset after all)
- Replay some of the live events, like the hunting of the "insect guy"
- Recapture the good old feelings.
- It could marketed as "Matrix Online: new beginnings"

Disadvantages:
- Some people complaining about it probably... but I think most of the people would "buy into it". Quality over quantity qua storyline

I don't think it will hapen, given that we already have the archive missions that let you go through the whole storyline. True, it doesn't give you the LE and some of the special items that they brought, but is as near as you can get of your proposal.

All of the past critical missions can be done through the archives, and I am pretty much against reusing old contentent if it can be helped (In MxO it cant but Rarebit has an uncanny way of making old things seem new)  And a lot of the stuff done at the early point of MxO was done with a large Live Event team doing it all, now we dont have that so the live events wouldn't be able to be done on the same scale.

And after getting the Patcher's Headgear... if i see another fly... I will destroy it!  SMILEY

I know you can do archive missions, but it's not the same. I would really have them go though each chapter again as crits (maybe with lesser live events and smaller events), in a faster tempo and here and there inserting some new stuff.

For reusing old content, I think the current storyline is becoming very soapish. Going back would give development some breathing space. Btw I think some people would not even realize there's a "rerun" going on.

No. People worked for the things they had, and they should be able to keep them.

Problem with a rerun is lower viewing figures (which in turn would relate to people leaving the game) there would be no surprises, no mystery etc... New unknown story > Old known story

Archives allow you to replay previous critical missions, that should give players new and old alike a decent understanding of the story up to now, plus the advantage of gaining decent XP and Org clothing/FX.

Actually, it is EXACTLY the same. What you are suggestiing is to abandone the current story which moves at a faster and more steady pace than back then. Flushing out those old crits is not going to add anything new, they are already flushed out and a reliveable part of the history of the ongoing story.

Back then events happened at best every 6-8 weeks. They happen daily now, filling out the story between crits and giving us much more to keep up with. Those 'great' old events were server crashing rarities. Nostalgia is fickle, remembering what you like and forgetting what you didn't. We waited forever for those events while buring off all the crits in one day just to get them done once they came out.

Do your really do all the crits and read all the live events occuring on all servers that happen between them to absorb the entire story as it is happening now?  Do you talk to all the mission NPCs, every major character twice and hack every computer you find in every crit to get as much detail as you can out of them?  There's plenty going on now in the story to keep us interested than there was back then.

If that's not enough for you, then by all means go back and do all the Archived Crits as fast as you like. Have you done all the Archive Crits for all orgs and reviewed all the past events associated with them to fill yourself in on the complete story from the inception of the Truce after Neo?

I really can't see any benefit to abandoning the much more active and smooth flowing story we have going on now to relive a past that's already preserved and there for you to relive now.
