This particularly relates to events where prizes are given out, given events that have happened recently and also the fact that my service has been taken advantage of before in the past as well.

So in order to protect myself, I will not be posting events where prizes are to be distributed unless the prizes are first handed over to be held in escrow until after the event.

If your intentions are noble, then you won't mind making this concession. I hope everyone understands, and I look forward to seeing some great events in the future.

Glad I've given you something to be in awe about.

I don't think this is necessary.  Also, what about cases where prize money is mostly constituted of entrant's fees?

It's a case of a few bad apples ruining the entire batch, I'm afraid, and I do understand where you're coming from. But just a few months ago I was asked to post an event where 1,000,000 (presumably info) would be given per kill on Recursion. By the time it was over the amount was huge and the only thing participants received was the prop item for money (See "PvP for Vendetta"SMILEY. I had more than a fair share of the complaints directed to me even though it wasn't my event.

And now with the latest fiasco, since those involved in such matters could possibly have actions taken against them, this is more to protect my account from any situations like these in the future, because let's face it, taking someone's word for something at the risk of being associated with such a situation and getting my account banned really is a huge loophole that could be exploited by anyone that came along who wanted to cause grief for the community.

I've got an idea for a mini-event, but at this point, I doubt that any money will be involved, but we'll see what happens... Either way, I'm glad you made this ruling: You own the account, so it's your call how it gets used if a player wants to borrow it for an event.

I would suggest if you are going to have a prize for your tournament, you state clearly what the prize will be.  Don't be misleading. As long as you are open and clear about what the prize will be you should be fine. If you are trying to deceive / prank / punk / defraud then things won't go well for you.

example, if you say the prize is 1,000,000 then it is normally understood that it will be in game currency, which in this case is $info.

This is especially important for tournaments/events in which a registration fee is imposed.

Yeah. I don't see a lot of anonymous tournaments coming up, so this probably won't even be an issue in regards to me posting people's event announcements, but I wanted to cover the base just in case it ever came up.

So when does it come down to a legal binding contract to host a player event where prizes are distributed XD.

The only thing you have to worry about is if you charge an entrance fee... then your prizes should be clearly labeled in precise understandable terms.

If for example, your first place prize is an item that could be mistaken for another rare object, you should clearly state that it is not the rare object.

No entry fee required, the party itself went on for over 8 hours and prizes included a Patcher's Headgear, Patcher's Dana, Elite Commando Suit and countless millions upon millions given out and it was all funded by our pure awesomeness!  How it should be!
