#36300451653 05/07/2008 03:53:39 Hello, new (noob?) player here
Hi,

I got Matrix online about one week ago. Not my first mmorpg, my first was City of Heroes. I tried wow, but I'm not really into fantasy worlds. I liked/loved the movies and my heart ached because I couldn't get Matrix online earlier. As a student, the bank didn't want to give me a creadit card.

So after three years of waiting, I finally got the game I tried to trade my mother to. I love it. At the moment I have a level 11 character and I thought that the first character should be very combat oriented so battles would be easier and so would be getting familiar with the game. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Aikido fighting is so cool SMILEY

The server I'm on (Recursion) doesn't seem to be very crowded, although the game map is huge.

My question might be that what server and character do you recommend for a beginner?

Welcome to the Matrix.

To be honest, your already on a good enough server to get started, but activity levels vary on area/time.

Syntax has a slightly bigger population than Recursion and has more european players, so you'll find them online earlier. Most crowded areas tend to be Mara Central, but don't be suprised to see variations on many areas, use the forums recruitment sections to seek a faction you may wish to join, choose wisely.

The 3rd server, Vector, is a PvP server, where once you hit level 16 you are permantely attackable by any hostile player. On Syntax and Recursion PvP is entered only via choice in actions (Archives, /pvp or executing an action which can flag you, or forced pvp in a Live event).

Martial Arts are probally the best to use for a beginner, as it's easier to grasp what is required for it and helps to complete missions faster with the damage output, not to mention... you'll find it a lot cooler to see various moves and styles you may have in the movies.

First off, welcome to MxO. Glad to have you here.

As for server preference Syntax is the most populated, Recursion is just a little bit lower than Syntax, and Vector is currently the lowest. Vector is a hostile server, so from level 16+ you're constantly flagged for PvP. If that's not your piece of cake, you're going to want to stick with either Syntax or Recursion. Both have really good PvP and it's actually easier to find someone to fight oftentimes compared to Vector. It's been thrown around that Syntax is/was at one point the unofficial RP server, so you might want to take that into consideration.

As for character choice, the greatest part of MxO is the no regret factor. You can mix and match styles for your own preference. IMO though, I'd recommend starting with a Martial Artist character and level up all three trees in that area. I've seen a lot of low levels with success in Karate starting out, and later getting a feel for the rest of the trees. Being a Martial Artist enables you to get a feel for interlock combat, the basics, etc.

If you need any help while you're in game, shoot me a tell. My in game handle is Marias on the Syntax server, so if you're on Recursion you'll have to add me as Syntax.Marias.

Wow. Hivemind?

Hello, welcome to MxO.

Basically the servers are the same, Recursion and Syntax are non-hostile and allegedly syntax is the unofficial RP server. where as Vector is a hostile server where you are perma flagged for pvp from lvl16. there is still pvp on recursion and syntax but its by choice whereby you type /pvp to flag.

Recursion as a whole is not a busy server for the GMT time zones i cant vouch for the other servers but im sure its the same, while the Americans are about its busier. most people hang about at Mara Central.

as for the combat, it depends what you want from the combat system. play about with all the trees and see what you like if you like the IL (interlock) combat system then use an IL  tree such as gunner or Martial Arts. If you like to hit people out of IL then go down the hacker tree. the beauty of this game is that you can change your stats subject to a stat hack mission ticket and abilities when you like.

I hope i was of some help.

Marias, are you finnish? At least your location (HvCFT Kalevala) might indicate that.
