(OK, before you read this, I mean no offense to anybody by this post.)

This thread is made of fail; the messege at the start was good (stupid kids get what they deserve lol), but it has since degenerated into ramblings about corporeal punishment.

I'm going to try and set the record straight here. I'm 15. I do stupid sh*t like any other 15 year old. Sure, we get into trouble every once in a while, but our type of fun is harmless, and overall a good experience. The type of "fun" perpetuated in this video is despicable, I'm sure we can all agree on that. Also, while it may affect me in the future, harsher sentences are fine in my mind, perhaps even necessary. That said, bringing back the cane is just plain ridiculous. If I don't do some random piece of homework, I don't want to be getting a rap on the knuckles. If a teacher doesn't like me, I really don't want him or her with a cane in their hand, and within striking distance of me. That's a bad idea.

See, pain doesn't discourage the behavior, it discourages the behavior in that situation. It does not teach kids to be better people, just better people when around teachers. This fixes the problem with students in these times. Now, in 10 years, what state is the world going to be in? There will be an entire generation of frustrated, angry, and oppressed 20-30 year olds. That is a problem.

Oh, one last thing. Don't judge us all from the actions of a few. I can point you to quite a few dangerous adults, and quite a few arrogant adults, even more that are disrespectful. Does that mean all of them are? No, obviously, and if anyone suggested that, they'd be laughed at. And yet, that is said about teens time in and time out, so stop the hypocrisy, stop the bigotry, and stop the silly suggestions. It's easy to say "Those people need more punishments!" but, being on the inside is completely different.

So to all the younger players who still attend School, what (if any) punishments for disruptive behaviour etc.. are handed out?
Well, if you do something really bad, they call the cops on you. Straight up. I don't know if you've ever seen what parents are like with a cop bringing you home, but it's not pretty.

Nowadays, though, the kid is more likely to disregard the teacher's authority, shout back and stubbornly refuse to do as they're told. That's when you start to take bigger steps to put the kid in line.
I have never seen this happen. In 11 years of education, not once has this happened in my school. It's not as common as you think it is.

Ok, I didn't really read the arguments Zero keeps having with the others, but I want to get my 2$i in. First, a little background info. I'm currently a senior in high school. I remember every year, through elementary and middle school, that they'd send home this yellow paper at the beginning of the year. This paper was very simple, it was a permission slip for corporal punishment. My dad would always sign and authorize it, telling my sister and I that if we did something bad enough to deserve it, we *CENSORED* well shouldn't be protected from it.

The fear of the paddle kept me in line, besides having a good upbringing. When I got to high school, they believed we had grown out of corp punishment. Instead, however, was something far worse. The school rarely gave detention or OSS, instead we have ISS as a regular punishment. The ISS room might as well be called purgatory. Small, confined room, you don't talk, you work, ALL DAY. You go to the bathroom when they tell you to, you eat lunch when they bring it. Usually, you also had, besides the days work from your classes, a five page research paper due at the end of the day. You didn't finish it? Congrats, another day of ISS for you.

However, sometimes ISS didn't work. But our district didn't back down and let the kids have free reign. You get outta line enough times? Charges are being filed at the local magistrate. Try explaining that one to your parents, and see if they don't give you what you deserve.

I've never had to be subject to any of those punishments, but I always believed the way my school handled it was good. The paddle kept alot of kids in line, and now my senior class is the most respected class to come through in years. The paddle kept us in line as kids, and now as young adults, we know better than to *CENSORED* around, and because of it over 90% of us are going onto secondary education.

Moral of the story? Corp punishment instills fear, fear instills respect for the rules, respect for the rules gets you ahead in life.

This thread has strayed far too much from its original topic, and is descending into flames.
