Quick question...more to come...

Hello everyone,

I only have a few minutes, but I wanted to ask a quick question before I leave to setup the continuation of this thread after I get back.

Is anyone here familiar with the theoretical physicist, Michio Kaku? I did a search and nothing came up on the forum, so I am assuming he has not been discussed.

With that said, I have MANY things to discuss with all of you that stem from Dr. Kakus' books, lectures, and radio shows.

If you are familiar with Dr. Kaku I know you will understand where I am going with this thread. When I get home, I hope there are some others out there that have been affected by this brilliant scientist.

Yotogi; My intention was not to ask any particular questions, but rather discuss the views and theories presented by Dr. Kaku and in addition how these ideas can be applied to the Matrix story. For example, if Dr. Kaku is correct regarding his classification of civilizations; could it be possible that there is a class 2 or 3 civilization in which AI went out of control and created a situation similar to the Matrix?

By the way, if your copy is truly signed (not sure if you met him at a signing or ordered it) I am very jealous. I was honored to speak with him on the Coast to Coast AM show where he recently re-joined old host Art Bell for a great show on the 28th of March.

Through Kaku's philosophies, everything that happened in the Matrix storyline is theoretically possible.

Once a civilization reaches class 2 it will no longer be subject to death. Science can overcome it, with technology obviously being much better than it is today. Of course we're a ways away from attaining such an existence, as Kaku mentions the possibility that many past civilizations never made the transition from Class 0 to Class 1. Pride and arrogance has a way of tearing civilizations apart. It's worth noting that we are classified as a Class 0 and that things like the internet are the precursor to Class 1, where communication is spread across the globe in an instant.

Truly, the entire premise of using humans as an energy source in mucous filled pods is highly... inefficient, especially in the way it is depicted. Far too much wasted infrastructure space, in any case. Humans would never provide the energy necessary to even maintain that, much less build in in the first place. I can't believe machines would ever conclude THAT makes sense, especially with humans as such an inherent threat.

Geothermal power is essentially limitless in a 2-3 billion year time frame, and seems much more plausible.

Makes for a great trilogy tho.

I agree with you completely. I bleieve that a class 2 or 3 civilization, that as you said, could harness geothermal, stellar, and even galactic power sources.

However, there is no reason to think that the machines would have developed the precise system that was described in the movie series. I would theorise that this scenario could play out in a million different ways. Perhaps, taking energy out the picture, a Matrix is created simply to imprission the human race while preserving life. (as their program may find benefit of the preservation of live though the Matrix simulation) Perhaps this simulation produces evolutionary code for the machines, perhaps it serves as a "beta" testing for future habitats. It's late, and I'm just shooting ideas out here, but they certainly are fun to ponder, are they not?

What class are we?

As defined by Dr. Kaku; We are a class 0 civilization. We have evolved to the point of understanding the basic laws of physics and to this point are aware and have "mastered" the mathematics of the four fundamental forces of our universe. (Gravity, electromagnetic, and the strong and weak interaction forces) However, our main source of energy we use to fuel our technology is that of dead plants and animals. It is when we can break free from the bonds of fossil fuels and begin to access true geothermal energy, as Madbent mentioned, that we will elevate to a "class 1" civilization.

It is interesting to point out here that Dr. Kaku himself admits that, in the immense expanse of space t would be ignorant to believe that our planet is the only in which intelligent life has evolved. It is at this crucial point, between class 0 and 1, in which we literally have a collective choice whether to excel our status or self destruct. Dr. Kaku explains that, with the discovery of elements such as uranium and plutonium open a pathway to both great discovery as well as the ability to destroy, kill, and pollute our world. It is in this junction that we live. Dr. Kaku is quoted in stating that this could very well be the most important generation of humans ever to walk the Earth.

Can we make it? I would certainly love to see what we are capable of as a race if we do...

How old are you Saint?
If I remember correctly you are not that old... have faith, lord knows I'm trying...and maybe...just MAYBE we can keep from completely annihilating ourselves and/or our planet.

Just think of what the future will hold afterward...

There is only so much we will ever know about the universe, its alot of fun to sit and think about how impossibly microscopic we are and how much we really mean nothing to the universe we live in.  I say we make the best of it, because knowing all wouldn't make life fun, because once you reach that point of understanding, you realize Ignorance is bliss.

We are never lost...we only lack the desire to seek the light for which we feel inside but has been suppressed by governments, the media, and other outlets designed to weaken one's will.

Idealism is not phase of life...it is a path...
