He can't find his disk so he downloaded the free trial from the website. He went to the account website to renew his account. He entered his credit card number, and it said that it was invalid and that his account had been frozen for 5 days. What should he do? He has already failed once at trying to comeback because of techinical problems.

You should have him get in touch with SOE's Account and Billing department so he can try to work out the problem with them.

Sometimes the account system can be problematic and/or seem confusing. If he gives them a call, they know the ins and outs. I've had to call twice and they've been very helpful for me.
