Not picking on Cap or anything, but this is an example of what I was afraid of. What's to stop the devs from giving out the Burning Eye trench or the Beta clothing, now that these other "veteran" abilities have been compromised?

The fact that marketing havent decided to give them away to a certain portion of players is whats stopping the Dev's from giving out the BET or Beta clothing. Once again, if they didn't decide to give out 'Veteran' abilities as a joining incentive then the rest of us wouldn't have had a problem with it and would most likely not have them now. People are asking for the BET and beta clothing only because they'd really like it, not really because they'll think they'll get it.

And people didn't think they'd ever really get HJB or MC, either. We see what's happened there, though, haven't we?

These two abilities were special, they had value. What do you give as an incentive? Something that is special, that has value. It's logical, especially if at least one of the items had been previously used as an incentive in the very same manner ("Try this game and get this special ability that no one else will have!"SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15">.

The fact remains that this happened because all those who did not have these two abilities were able to cry louder than those who had earned them under the conditions they were originally given out. Mob rules, I guess.

they 'were' special, but as soon as they they started giving it out to new players, it wasnt anymore.

now the reason WE brought it up was because of this...nothing else

and you seem to be crying more about the fact that we brought it up than anything else tbh

Why weren't they special abilities anymore? What's your basis for making this claim?

I maintain that the items were still special, as they were still only being given out to a select group ("trial players"SMILEY.

Sure they where special, when they where just beta abilities (HJB). Mobius would be special to those who where at the event to get it. Why would it be special to those who get it through the trial, and why would you class it as special when the trial players use them?

Surely if trial players where only to get them it would invalidate the specialness of them and also the betaness.

*shrugs* im not following your logic. Then again im tired.

Uh-uh. Nice trying to turn it back around on me, but that's not cutting it and you didn't answer my question. The HJB was special because it was an incentive to pre-order the game before launch, and it was used as an incentive to try the game trial. The Mobious Code was special because it was awarded to players who took part in the DotD event, and to players who converted their accounts from trials to subscriptions.

I fail to see how this makes them lose their exclusivity or value. I am asking those arguing against me in this matter to show me why there is no value to these abilities. Or hell, how about just showing me how they were devalued to equal a day or so of farming an in-game item?

Perhaps when they were tradeable to anyone including non trial personnel during the first trial up until the point where they decided to make them untradeable.... Then when they were handed out to new trial members. I don't consider waiting for trials 'earning' anything not when you could've got access to the game at any point in-between. I consider the incentive to do the trial the fact you don't have to pay to test the game before deciding to subscribe, abilities were just a sweetener.

But that's just YOUR opinion, based on your feelings. And since you're not responsible for bringing in new subscribers to the game, as SOE marketing is, you have the luxury of that opinion.

That opinion still doesn't offer any validity to the claim that these items were devalued.

Considering that you cannot buy these abilities with real world cash and anything in game belongs to SoE anyway the only real 'value' people can pace on these items are their feelings about them. In my opinion, from what I've heard from a lot of people on the subject the 'value' of these abilities as special items to a player has gone down.

It's just YOUR opinion that the 'Value' hasn't gone down. It is my belief that if the abilities maintained their 'value' as special abilities they wouldn't have been released to the rest of us regardless of any complaints.

Now THAT is a good and valid point, one for which I can only shrug and say I don't know why they were released. Only Rarebit can well and truly answer that.

I still maintain, though, that it was a mistake to release them to everyone because both of those abilities had value. Otherwise, why would they hastily return these to non-tradeable status after it was realized that some people were taking advantage of the situation? Why would the community desire them so much.

Oh well. Nothing can be done about these now. I only hope that future situations will be regarded a bit more circumspectly.

Something I've always maintained throughout all the debates, today and previously, is that the new trials should have been given something unique to those trials and not something from the past. Hopefully in the future, past special items will not be given out freely or as collectors items thus keeping them special.
