This is a very interesting topic, and is very connected to The Matrix.

Installment 1:

The Evolution of Thomas Anderson.

Take a look at Thomas Anderson. He lives a mundane life. He spends nearly all night and day awake. He gets up every morning, and goes to work, he lives an unhappy life - he is always looking for something more. As we see on his computer screen, he is pursuin the truth, and learning about Morpheus. He even helps his land lady carry out her garbage...

Thomas Anderson (Numerologically) has a Name #4.

Name Number 4
The Constructor - The symbol of your expression is the square. You are always busying working on your career, your happiness and adding values to your society. There may not be much glamorous ports of call for you for your work is always at hand. You will only be making your life difficult if you rebel against this mission. On the other hand, by meeting your destiny with a smile, enjoy the thrills of your constructive efforts, view the world in peace and contentment, you will be rewarded with your good deeds.

When Agent Smith is talking to Neo, it is as if he knows all of this. "You even help your land lady carry out her garbage..."

When he is faced with the choice of Red or Blue, he already knew what he would take. He awakens in the real world, but did not expect what he was seeing. He obviously enjoys training and learning martial arts ("I'm going to learn... Jujitsu?" "I know Kung-Fu.". Once he meets The Oracle, he believes her, but once he does just what she said he would - he truly understands. He IS The One, and he realizes that.

NEO

Neo has past the tests needed to prove to himself that he IS The One. He can SEE the difference between Real and Unreal.

Neo, is a Name #7.

Appearance can be deceiving and you must learn the difference between the real and unreal, lasting values and the evanescent evaluation. Neo had to pass many tests to realize his true purpose. He had to die, come back - return to the source, and so many other things. He can see the true nature of the code, and can see past deceiving appearances. Through all the movies, he evolves. In Revolutions he jacks in without a jack, and he is strongly connected to humans - as shown in Reloaded when he refuses to return completely to the source. He obviously has a great heart, fighting for freedom and peace for humanity. He has achieved one of the best rewards live can give - LOVE.

The Oracle talked to Neo as if she knew his number - and of course she did.

Installment 2: "Predecessor Bot"Theory

Given the theory that the Wachowskis knew what they were doing (numerologically) this will help back the "Predecessor Bot" theory.

First of all, remember - Neo was a name number 7. Number 7 fits the description of The One, to a tee.

(When reading this, remember the fact how life always repeats itself (different characters, different places). Remember how people from different civilizations create similar myths as we do. Different characters, same events).

The Merovingian

The Merovingian is the collector of souls, he is refuge for the fallen programs (exiles), metaphorically the Fallen Angels.

When you analyze "The Merovingian," you get again - a name number 7.

The Merovingian, in the bot theory, would be the first "One," witnessing all of the predecessors leading up to Neo, the current one. "Your predecessors had much more respect." A quote that starts the thinking, if he was a previous one, perhaps his followers, Neo's predecessors. Think of Trinity as The Merv's Persephone. "He was so much like you when we came here, so in love."

The above quote is another link to believing The Merovingian is a previous "One." Morpheus showed an undoubtable level of respect for The Merovingian, which ties into my next "One."

When the Oracle describes him to Neo, she says he is a powerful program, who was tainted by greed. He has survived every iteration (as far as we know) but at what expense?

Morpheus

"Morpheus has been here since the beginning." The beginning of what? Not the beginning of time,  but perhaps the beginning of the "current/new" Zion. Morpheus seeks The One. He teaches The One. Take this however you will "Are you saying I can dodge bullets?" "No, I am saying - when the time is right - you won't have to." Could Morpheus have known this? If he did, I would say it is from previous knowledge. I believe he was "The One" before Neo.

Morpheus is also a number 7.

Morpheus is the most recent "One," in this theory, and gives him reason to exist in this iteration.

Seraph

"I protect what matters most." This is not the quote of a number 7 - but belief toward him being a predecessor is shown in the end of Revolutions. "I have beaten you before," and the other quotes Smith says that escape me at this very moment. 

Look back to Thomas Anderson, the number 4. He is focused around his career. Seraph is a number 4. Seraph is short for Seraphim, which is a term for the angels.

Look back to Thomas Anderson for the description of a 4. Seraph protects the Oracle 24/7, unless he is doing an errand for her. Think of her as the land lady. This could be an example.

Seraph is quick to fight Neo, to see who he truly is. He would know how the One had fought, because he had been him. Seraph is obviously not like The Merovingian, sidewinding to exist in every iteration - or like Morpheus, the most recent. His reason for existence is to protect the Oracle - what matters most.

This switch of purpose-to-exile-to-purpose makes sense if you think of it as reverting back to the first stage of "The One" (Thomas Anderson for the sake of the argument). This also makes sense as to why Seraph would be a 4, but we can believe that he was a predecessor without being a 7, due to his conversation with Smith.

If you do not think of the predecessors evident as "bots," but as just people with a new purpose or new life in The Matrix.

Smith will be described in the next installment as to why he could possibly be The One or just the negative part of the equation that must always be there.

Installment 3: Agent Smith - The first "One?"

Morpheus said, "when the system was created, there was one man who could manipulate it as he saw fit."

Agent Smith said, "I hate this place."

Imagine if Smith started off as a human. Drop the "Agent," and he's just "Smith." The opposite of the first is the last, and he was the opposite of Neo.

Let us start with breaking down "Smith." Smith is a 6 - The first of God's perfect numbers - it is also a digit in the number of the beast (666). If you take The Architect as God, the first perfect number he created was 6 - Smith.

Here is the number 6 - which fits perfectly into the idea of the "first one."

The Humanitarian - You stand for truth and justice. Your duty is to show the right way to your family members and extend this form of service to the humanity. Your code of ethics operates according to the universal law. You live up to it and each good you did is like a deposit in the ‘world bank'. Living against your philosophy of life will make you egocentric, selfish, nagging and worrisome. You should never allow the negative forces of life to influence your conduct.

If you read this, you can see how that would fit as a "first one." "Universal law," being the laws of the system would give the sense that if he was the first one, he was taken by The Architect to become an Agent of the system.

Once you throw "Agent" on to Smith, you get "Agent Smith," a number 8.

Name Number 8
The Cosmic Magistrate - You operate from a code of highest aspiration. You may be the guiding light of inspiration in philanthropic and religious movement or the administrator of practical affairs. On the other hand, violence nature and destructive powers are the undeveloped side of your expression. When you neglect the high destiny intended for you, you can become the cause of unhappiness to others and yourself. Accept the high position that has been destined to you, being optimistic and self study are the keys to freedom.

Agent Smith is the head of the agents in the 1st movie. You can credit the agents to being angels (cognate). He is the head of the angels (religious movement), and the head of practical affairs (machine logic). He is obviously very violent, and destructive. If he was the first one, the loss of all of that power could cause his hate for the current One. He wants to escape his prison, he is trapped by The Architect to lead the Agents, and be the counterpart of the one. He relies on only himself for freedom, as you can see in the first movie when he orders the other agents out of the room. "It is my only way out."

As long as Zion is alive, The One has purpose. If Zion were completely destroyed, there would be no need for a "One," and thus no need for a counterpart (Smith).

Let us imagine that when Neo "ran into" Smith at the end of the 1st film, it was an uneccessary way of defeating him - if he was supposed to defeat him at all. When Smith confronts Neo in Debir Court, he is certainly one hell of a happy exile. "Some part of you imprinted onto me..." The joy of having powers like The One again causing his cocky attitude towards someone who beat him in the last movie (Neo).

OR, imagine that Neo did exactly what he was supposed to do in that hallway and Smith merely chose a different path from his previous ones - a different method of doing things. He saw a "loop hole," persay.

In the end of Revolutions, when The Machines and Neo form the truce in turn for Smith's demise it causes something that has never happened before - because it is a situation that has never occured before. Revolutions shows how routine can easily be changed.

In conclusion (to this installment) Smith was the original one, and thus used by the machines as a system of control (the opposite of the current one is the first one). He got sick of his job, sick of seeing a new "One" take his place at every iteration, and neglected his duties to the system.

The numbers support this, and in my opinion prove it. This would make The Merovingian at least the 2nd one.

Installment 4: Trinity and her predecessors?

Trinity, Neo's lover. Morpheus' first mate. The third piece to the "Holy Trinity."

If you break down Trinity's name you once again get a number 7. Surprisingly, there is not much told about Trinity. She cracked the IRS database, and has proved herself to be an excellent hacker.

For reference, here is the number 7.

The Oracle told Trinity that she would fall in love with the One. Before seeing the Oracle, we can guess that she was always searching for something. While following in love with The One was not her only purpose, it was certainly a pivotal point in her life when the Oracle told her who she would fall in love with.

We can see in each movie she is very reliable, and a great companion.

The Matrix- She risks her own life to save Morpheus, the man who freed her from The Matrix.

Reloaded - She jacks into the Matrix to save Neo and the others from dying due to explosives. She kills several men, and cracks the power grid.

Revolutions - She goes to Hell and back, literally, to save Neo.

Again, as stated in Evolution of Thomas Anderson, her great reward(s) in life would be love and the companionship found in it. Life is much easier to get through with someone you love than alone. We can see how she has had to overcome many obstacles, and once again how her name number suits her.

Persephone

Given, for the sake of the argument, that we count The Merovingian as a predecessor of The One - Persephone would be his "Trinity." We can see how Persephone misses the love that her husband and her once shared.

Persephone, in Greek mythology is the kidnapped and raped bride of Hades/Pluto, lord of the underworld. Since she says that her and The Merovingian were in love, we can safely say there was a strong connection between the two - just as there is between Neo and Trinity. Perhaps the "*CENSORED*" would be The Merovingian pulling Trinity into the underworld of The Matrix and also pulling her into his descent of greed and darkness.

If you break down Persephone, you get a 4 - just like Thomas Anderson and Seraph.

She is always busy sitting at the right hand of The Merovingian. She does not have much, or any time at all to spend with her husband. She does not experience the love she once shared and she obviously misses it. As we can see in Reloaded she wants to help Neo, Trinity and Morpheus - our past arguements would prove she had been through the same struggle. She is rewarded for her good deed before hand with the kiss from Neo.

Just like Seraph, we can see the transformation from 7 to 4 - and opposite to Neo from 4 - 7.

Niobe & Morpheus

This is the female that is romantically involved with Morpheus. Since her numbers coincide with neither Persephone or Trinity - and her faith in Neo isn't like Morpheus' or Trinity's, or even Persephone's. This could possibly rule out he possibility of Morpheus being a predecessor of the one, or if he was perhaps Niobe was not his "Trinity."

If Morpheus was a predecessor (which makes a lot of sense, so I am sticking to it) his "Trinity" must have died. If Morpheus was not a "One," then he was one of the few hand selected to repopulate Zion (since the Oracle said he had been there since the beginning).

While it has maybe some matches to the characters personality I think you took it to far as it is not the defining explanation of each character and their history. At best its a neat idea the W bros stumbled on and incorporated some of it into the films but at the end of it all several of your conclusions are just flat out wrong.

Numerology was something I was interested in a short time. My number was 7, explained my personality pretty well, also got a number 2 forgot what it was about.

 But the Movie "The number 23" was based off numberology.

there is soo many ways to interpret the matrix (that iz fact) and they face palm that!

the problem here and especialy in other threads are that people have gotton together and discussed amongst themselves what this means and what that means, without seeing the religious aspects, philosophical aspects, and also the aspects that are just soo next level, a form of thinking has not been created to explain it yet.

but it is one thing to face palm and it is quite another to actually deny that ideas happen all the time, especially as more information becomes available.

Example, one person interprets the films as Smith being evil and Neo good, another says Smith is good and Neo is evil. Who is right? They can't both be because each of them contradict each other. Faith alone doesn't get you answers. All it gets you is opinions on what the answer is. This thread was a case in point. A lot of these ideas contradict even the spiritual and philosophical meanings in the characters. Are they all right though just because he can formulate them into a thought process? No. At the end of it all there is no evidence to support these or any of your past claims.

Reality is defined by that which does not contradict. Or that which is true. Truth can not be contradictory. While the obviousness of a contradictory is true it does not make you any more right. In fact unless you can prove that there is no contradictory then both statements are false. Just because I say the sky is green does not make it green does it?

Ok, and what your point? of course there is a right answer to be found in contradictions but the point is it doesnt mean both are arguments are right. It means both need to go back and start proving their claims and show supporting evidence of such and until they do both are wrong.

Wow you really like to make yourself out to be some deep thinker don't you? No they are not where the story starts. Letting symbols run your story is what we call bad story telling. Symbols are used to help show the meanings in things within the story but are not the story themselves.

And yet you dismiss all arguments against you as being "Wrong answers" Clearly you are comparing ours against your own and that because ours do not mach yours they are wrong. If this isn't claiming superiority over a subject then I don't know what does.

Numerology is a horrible stepping stone for for exploring reality. At best it is something neat to look at and admire any cowicidendce within it but it does not show us anything about how reality works. Its the same as any horoscope you read in the paper. Sure sometimes they are dead on the money with what happened to you that day but more often then not they are completely wrong. When compared to the facts of the Matrix Canon, numerology fails in giving any information on the characters. Why? Because the W bros clearly did not use numerology in there symbolism thus any connections there are within it are mere coincidence and do not have any deeper meaning.

And if the version are supposed to mimic the seven days of creation then why do we hear about there being "Ones" in the other five. If man didn't come till day six why is he present in days 1-5. better yet why is version one fully functional world when on the first day God created only light? The war begin over is not the method used to assigning what version of the Matrix we are in. Fact. The on;y method used is the One cycle which is destroyed thus we are stuck in version 6. The war being over, Smith coming and going, neo being dead do not matter. If you want to call it version seven fine, but realize that that is not what it is and to state such as being fact is idiotic and wrong.

If your not the authority then why do you proclaim everything that disagrees with you as being wrong? The contradictions only matter because they are what leads us to finding the truth in the subject, but they are not the truth. Stop trying to sound smart. Stop trying to sound deep. You are neither as you have proven. You are no scholar on the Matrix nor are you any professor of religion of philosophy and all you are doing is making yourself to look like an idiot and a fool by spouting off this kind of nonsense when presented with actual facts that go against your argument.

The bluepill popualtioin was touched on in a Merv crit when figureing if the machiens could use humans to power the Matrix and themselves.

It was said to be about 300 million.
