I want to know if these screenshots represent current development. That is to say, does this area look now like it does in the screenshots, or were they taken ages ago and Rarebit's just stringing them out for us?

If the screenshots are current, there's no way we're getting this in the next update.

Maybe not the area... but the building behind looks unique... A/The powerplant perhaps?

I really like the idea if fighting in the water, and get very excited at the prospect of an amazing pic of two people fighting in water edited with lots of splashing and stuff ^_^

Nice!

Hypothesis: After the destruction of the power plant by Niobe, the Machines were never fully able to reconstruct it for the next iteration.  The remains of it and elements around its vicinity have been discovered in an isolated construct outside the Matrix. Ta-da!

Hmm... this is definitely looking to be quite large.  If it is an isolated construct, I have one issue... the sky.  As much as I love the Sati sky, if this is a partially submerged area with broken bridges, smoke spewing smokestacks and a garbage barge, the Sati sky is just completely wrong.  The orange and red skies from when Sati went missing, however, would be a perfect fit.

I doubt we'll be fighting rats, there's already a rat-themed gang in Edgewater, the Wharf Rats.

I agree with Shinryu. No matter what this turns out to be, District, Construct, Neighborhood, Bob Newhart's dream, I think the Sati Sky is hugely inappropriate. I'd love to see the red sky make do an encore.

As for rats... I'm personally hoping for three-eyed fish.

#36300394060 01/26/2008 16:35:28 Re:Image Retrieval - January 23, 2008

Chadwick mentioned a nuclear reactor in theX.fm's coverage interview of ComicCon and SOE Block Party last year (maybe the year before). Mave covered the interview.

I think the jist of it is that someone in Monolith was working on it, SOE took over and it sat on a shelf since then.

Though the smokestacks don't quite fit the description of a nuclear reactor, this area does look industrial. And we haven't seen all of it yet.

I'd quite like to see the red sky too, or perhaps Rarebit will come up with a new weather-style for the place.  Something smoggy...
#36300394074 01/26/2008 16:48:45 Re:Image Retrieval - January 23, 2008
Personally, I hated the red sky after a couple of weeks. I can't imagine too many new players stayed after having their retinas burned out of the back of their heads. It could be cool to have a different weather cycle here than normal areas. Perhaps even a starry night. I don't really agree that Sati sky is inappropriate, but I think Rarebit has it on that because it makes it easier to see what all is in the screenshot.

#36300394082 01/26/2008 16:56:38 Re:Image Retrieval - January 23, 2008
If it's a construct then yeah, perhaps another sky would work, if it's another district then it should be the same sky as the rest of the districts. If it's nuclear power in an old converted power station (hence the chimneys and storage housings) then there wouldn't be any smog. If its not Nuclear powered and a normal power plant then there might be a slight smog in the higher parts of the air, but not too much.

I liked the red sky event, thats how I based my Nemesis movie, but thats a different subject.

I like the look of this new area. Hoping it is a new district because that would be wicked, something other then running around boring Mara C ect ect. SMILEY

After all the city is bigger then a small park with a Telephone box.

Excited to see this appear.

#36300394163 01/26/2008 21:36:37 Re:Image Retrieval - January 23, 2008

Hey, even though I loved the red sky, I wouldn't want to see it be a permanent thing either hehe  I just feel the happy Sati sky is a complete mismatch for the post-destruction type environment we're seeing.  If I had my way (and yes, if it was just a construct) I'd go with the more orange tinged sky that came before the red sky.

I'm pretty sure he put that in there to show how he incorporated the event into the movie...it's not like he gets money for views.
