#36300392120 01/23/2008 13:26:18 Hi I Am New Here, Few Questions
I used to play on SWG so I thought I'd try another game, Just got a few questions about this one.

What is the currency called?
Is questing and leveling hard?
Can you own a player house?
Is there somthing along the lines as vendors?
Is there a crafting system in this game, if so, how complex?

Thank you for your time.

What is the currency called? Yea it's called "information"
Can you own a player house? No sadly
Is there somthing along the lines as vendors? There is a marketplace which is sort of like the Bazaar in SWG if you go to a hardline and right click it, you will see the marketplace option
Is there a crafting system in this game, if so, how complex? Pretty easy compared to SWG, if you go to a hardline and select abilities the coder tree is on the left hand side you will just have to buy the abilities you won't automatically get them like SWG

Thank you for your time.

Yes, I am a complete noob, and Redpill Rescue has been a great source of information for most all my inquiries, and of course, many I didn't even know I had!

Welcome to the Matrix Online.   Yes, the Redpill Rescue is the place to be to inquire information.

  • The currency is called $information.  The idea is that information is the most valuable asset in the Matrix, since material items aren't 'real'.
  • Levelling can be very monotonous if you only do missions.  It is not hard, just tedious and time-consuming.  What I found best is to focus more on exploration and the story, and not on hitting level 50 as quickly as possible.  Believe you me, there is way more *poop* to do in the game as you level than there is for you to do when you're 50.  My recommendation would be to explore every area of every district to the fullest:  Team up with some of those who are your level and tackle an exile hideout and try and get the best gear available; search out and visit your neighborhood contact for area-specific missions that let you delve into the underworld of the Matrix; find the local area collector and find the items they're looking for to receive some nice gear; find your organizational archivist and visit the historical constructs or run archived critical missions to catch yourself up on the story; search out the exile gang bosses and try to receive some neighborhood access keys, then find and hack the access node for the more dangerous neighborhoods to keep Agents off your back.  You'll still need to run regular missions from time to time to build up reputation with your organization, though.  You'll receive critical story missions as you gain in reputation, and when you've gained enough $information and reputation, you'll be able to buy an access key to your organizational construct.
  • No, you cannot own a player house.  However, almost every building is accessible, so it is possible to find a secluded place inside the Matrix that you can call your own.
  • There are vendors in the game.  They'll sell weapons, abilities, and items up to a certain level.  The most powerful abilities can only be made by players, however.  As was mentioned above, you can access the Marketplace from any hardline or satellite dish where you can buy and sell from other players.
  • There is a crafting system called 'coding'.  It's not very tough to learn.  With the proper skills, you can decompile items you find to add them to your code library.  With abilities, you just write the code and upload it via hardline to be able to use it.  With items, you write the code and then have to compile the code to make the physical item.  Pretty much anything you come across can be decompiled and written.

Hope that helps.

Though that one does share the same topic title, I think it deals with other questions.  Ironic, though, nonetheless.

And since I am also new here, I have a few more questions.

Do we have a bank for personal item storage, or is our inventory the only way?  I know about uploading code, etc. in the loading area, but I was curious about clothes, weapons, etc., etc.

Is there a way to disable the profanity filter in chat?

Is there a way to flag yourself as an RPer?

You could make an alternate storage character to store stuff for that particular server or you can save items in emails, otherwise there is no alternative storage location available.

/safechat

Is there a way to flag yourself as an RPer?

No unfortunately.

What you can do is send an email to yourself. Most people use that to store their "collector" items and things that they don't need to use on a daily basis.

You can disable and re-enable the profanity filter by typing /safechat.

Unfortunately, there is no game mechanic to flag yourself for RP. You have to talk to people and get yourself out there for that. If you mention what server you're on, I'm sure people will be helpful in getting you well-connected.

You can edit your /details with the /setbackground command to put a note there along the lines of ((RPer))
People who read your details (the default double-click actions for PCs) will then see your note that you're wanting to RP.
A variation on this is simply putting an in-character RP Background Details; most people will pick up on that.
